  • COVID-19: Could Hydroxychloroquine Really Be the Answer?

    Medscape ^ | March 18, 2020 | Aude Lecrubier
Could the old generic malaria drug hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil, Sanofi-Aventis, among others), which is also used for the treatment of rheumatic disease, be an essential treatment for COVID-19? This hypothesis, put forward by some, including Professor Didier Raoult of the IHU Méditerranée Infection in Marseille, was dismissed by other eminent infectious disease specialists and dismissed as fake news recently by the Ministry of Health. Yet it resurfaced yesterday with the presentation on YouTube by Prof Raoult of positive results in a non-randomised, unblinded trial of 24 patients. This follows encouraging in vitro results obtained by a Chinese team led by Xueting...

    Wisconsin Muslim Journal ^ | Dec 20, 2019 | Unattributed
Milwaukee City Hall was packed on Wednesday, December 18th at 6:00 pm as the Fire and Police Commission voted unanimously to approve a non-collaboration policy between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Milwaukee Police Department. Voces de la Frontera, the immigrant rights organization led by Christine Neumann-Ortiz had pushed for a policy that would require judicial warrant before the Milwaukee Police Department could cooperate with Federal ICE agents. Many other cities have been wary of allowing such a warrant because President Trump had threatened to cut funding to cities that did not collaborate with ICE. Neumann-Ortiz rejected that concern...

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has said that glyphosate, the key ingredient in Monsanto Co’s top-selling weed killer Roundup, is not likely to be carcinogenic to humans, contradicting a World Health Organization panel. The EPA, in a draft risk assessment report issued on Monday, also said it found “no other meaningful risks to human health” when glyphosate, the world’s biggest-selling weed killer, is used according to its label instructions.

The mid-weight naked motorcycle craze is alive and strong in America. Yamaha has its FZ-07. Kawasaki its Z650. Others have updated previous mid-weights due to this craze, such as Ducati with its Monster 797 and Triumph its Street Triple 675. Harley-Davidson wants a bigger piece of this market. It’s answer? The 2017 Harley-Davidson Street Rod, which is the third member of the Street family that includes the base 750 and 500. This Street Rod offers more aggressive styling, and claimed improved handling over the Street 750. The engine’s design was borrowed from XG750 flat track platform, and makes a claimed...

CONROE, Texas (CBS NEWS)-- A Houston man convicted of drunken driving nine times since 1980 has been sentenced to life in prison. The Montgomery County judge who sentenced Donald Middleton on Tuesday said the 56-year-old man is a habitual offender. Middleton pleaded guilty last week to driving drunk in a May 2015 traffic accident. Investigators say Middleton was arrested after he fled on foot after the wreck, ran to a store and begged the clerks not to turn him in. Prosecutors say Middleton has already served four prison terms for alcohol-related convictions.
  • Governor Walker Believes Immigration Bill is Misunderstood; Unsure if He would Sign It

-snip- Governor Walker said he thinks the bill is misunderstood. "Reaction to that one is simply a reaction to a couple of local governments trying to issue IDs at the individual local level, as opposed to a state wide standard. I think most states, regardless if it's Wisconsin or anywhere else preferred to have a statewide standard in terms of a state wide ID that can be used for things like voting and things of that nature," said Walker. Governor Walker said he has not seen the bill on his desk yet. And when asked if he would sign it...

On Saturday, Jeb Bush suspended his 2016 presidential campaign, after a poor showing in South Carolina's primary and having spent tens of millions of dollars from his Super PAC backers. Whoever owned jebbush.com and was rerouting users to Republican rival Donald Trump's official website also decided to suspend their "campaign." Bush and Trump attacked each other vociferously as Bush's campaign waned until Saturday night's campaign suspension. Bush famously drew a correlative line from Trump to liberal filmmaker Michael Moore.

MADISON -- A Madison man has won the right to wear a spaghetti strainer on his head in his driver's license photo. The Department of Transportation has instructed all DMV offices to recognize colanders as religious headwear after receiving a letter from the man's lawyer. Derek Allen says his client is a Pastafarian and was denied his religious right as a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster , first established in 2005. "If you just hear about it in passing it sounds silly - someone wants to wear a spaghetti strainer in their driver's license," Allen says....
  • Greenfield (WI) Police Department takes novel approach to heroin battle

    WISN Milwaukee ^ | Jan 20, 2016 | Nick Bohr
Two hundred twenty people died in Milwaukee County in 2014 from heroin and other opiates, 10 times the number from a decade earlier for the entire state. The alarming rise in deaths from heroin and prescription opiates, like OxyContin, has led to a statewide media blitz, community summits and education campaigns, but the city of Greenfield is launching a novel program launching this week. “We're on the front lines of this heroin epidemic,” Greenfield Police Chief Brad Wentlandt said. Wentlandt said his department encountered nearly 500 heroin addicts last year, many of them repeatedly. “We just came to the realization...

Those inclined to do so, please pray for my FIL Carl. He had an episode described to me as a "Brain Bleed" and is in the hospital nearly unresponsive as I write this. The Neurosurgeon has stated if had cranial surgery been performed he would still likely be paralyzed on one side, and wouldn't be able to walk or communicate. The family has opted to forego the surgery, concerned his quality of life would not be acceptable to him and against his wishes. I will be praying for Carl's comfort and the family's wisdom during this time. Please pray for...

  • Governor Scott Walker releases statement regarding federal Syrian refugee resettlement program:

In light of these horrific and tragic attacks, our first priority must be to protect our citizens.  Along with governors across the country, I have deep concerns about the Obama Administration's plan to accept 10,000 or more Syrian refugees, especially given that one of the Paris attackers was reportedly a Syrian refugee. In consultation with our Adjutant General, who also serves as my Homeland Security Advisor, it is clear that the influx of Syrian refugees poses a threat.

-snip- The questions from the committee touched on everything from Clinton's correspondence with controversial ally and informal adviser Sidney Blumenthal, to the several allegedly ignored requests for increased security at the US diplomatic facility in Benghazi. But the questioners didn't seem as interested in what the diplomatic facility was actually doing. In her testimony, Clinton said the facility was "placed there to help us make a determination about what we would need going forward in Benghazi," and might have been used to help set up an eventual US consulate in Libya's second-largest city. But circumstantial evidence quickly emerged after the...

Gov. Scott Walker said Wednesday the United States should not take in additional Syrian war refugees who are fleeing to Europe, adopting a firm stance on the issue two days after declining to answer what he called a hypothetical question. "No, we shouldn't be taking on any more Syrian refugees right now," the Republican presidential hopeful told reporters in Eau Claire, according to Wisconsin Public Radio. "In the last year ,America has received almost 70,000 refugees of which nearly 2,000 are from Syria. We've spent something like $4 billion in humanitarian relief in terms of helping the situation in Syria."
