CONROE, Texas (CBS NEWS)-- A Houston man convicted of drunken driving nine times since 1980 has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Montgomery County judge who sentenced Donald Middleton on Tuesday said the 56-year-old man is a habitual offender.

Middleton pleaded guilty last week to driving drunk in a May 2015 traffic accident.

Investigators say Middleton was arrested after he fled on foot after the wreck, ran to a store and begged the clerks not to turn him in.

Prosecutors say Middleton has already served four prison terms for alcohol-related convictions.

What a shock. A white guy. Funny how the media/gov finds these evil white men committing these terrible crimes. Meanwhile, black and brown criminals barely get noticed by the media.

Not disagreeing with your post...but I think any brown or black person with nine drunken driving convictions...would getting a long prison sentence as will...

Well one thing; it’s keeping him safe and the rest of the road population, although you can get prison alky.

Back in the 70's & early 80's it was nothing for us to arrest people with multiple DWI's. We had one guy that did have 9 arrest. His job was a bus driver for the nuc plant ;-/

I’m in Spring near Conroe/Woodlands. I wish I could say I was surprised by this. I recall them putting up the sign that had a running tally of DUI crashes and fatalities on that stretch of road.

Everyone complained that the sign was tacky. I thought they had missed the point.
