  • Austria cellar man 'mentally ill'

I completely agree with the lawyer that this ‘person’ should not go to jail.

He should be locked in a small room in someone’s cellar and sexually abused for the next 24 years.

    For starters.

    I’m re-re-reading the story.

Because it was so vaguely written (or maybe since it seems it was transcribed from a tv story, so the pics may ckear things up a bit), it seems that she had gone thru a procedure and was moved to a place to recover from anaesthesia, etc.

So, she wasn’t being put under and abandoned, which we all agree would be beyond dangerous.

But she was neglected after the procedure to make sure her vitals and all were doing well post-procedure.

I remember coming out of anaesthesia a few times...it was hours before I could do much of anything without being in a fog...memory, motor skills, you name it.

The time I had my earlier detailed wisdom-teerh surgery it was a few hours before I was slowly helped out bed and into a seperate sitting room before eventually getting a ride home with mom and dad (was in HS at the time).

So feeling groggy, in a foreign environment, kinda panicking, I can see happening. Worth a few coins? sure. Within reason.

    Is she asking for millions?

    Hadn’t seen that.

Being left unattended under anaesthesia is a serious matter. I already said I’m not sure if I would sue, and if I did, it wouldn’t be for millions. But let’s not go off on her for feeling out of sorts.

Being put under is serious business, and in some oral surgeries, 100% necessary (I will detail my personal experience in a second).

As others have noted, people have died from simply being put under, having an allergic reaction, etc. Being monitored is vital in all cases.

I don’t think the ‘40-min’ excuse, or the ‘she turned out fine’ excuse should keep possible legal action from happening. Now, would I sue? hard to say. If the people involved were asked by a medical board to pay a fine of some sort, I think that should go to the patient. Millions for this? no. 5-to-6 digits? I can see that.

    My personal story:

A couple of decades ago I had to have wisdom teeth surgery. 3 of the 4 were impacted, and growing sideways, as opposed to thru the gumline. No way this could have been done with ‘a shot of novocane’ b.s., this was SURGERY. Hospital surgery, not in-and-out at a clinic or dentist’s office. Being fully put under, the whole nine yards. Came out 100% for what they expected. No problems.

My point is that to dismiss this person as a ‘drama queen’ or whatever because ‘she was left in an office after being put under, ha ha’ is crap. If she had something that was serious enough to have to be put under to fix, it’s a real deal. Going to a clinic to have something done is hard for some people to take mentally (we can talk about my 5-week hospital stay for an undiscovered/misdiagnosed burst appendix when I am 100% afraid of docs/hospitals/needles and what that did to my head ANYTIME).

I wouldn’t be too hard on this patient for what she went thru..thats all I’m saying.

This is a very interesting observation.

I’m curious to see more than just the last few decades or so. A complete history from Washington to today would be a fascinating list to see.

Part of our rising food prices are because of fuel costs making transport and storage higher and higher.

I remember the US having food surpluses back in the day, giving away cheese, etc. And this was happening while third world nations were experiencing hunger (due to many reasons ranging from drought to greedy, evil warlords).

We may just have to do a food for fuel deal for those countries that can trade it. That would theoretically allow us to then re-route our usage and help those less fortunate world-wide from ever-increasing food prices.

Using food for biofuel is one thing..but we kinda need to have food for animals to eat, since we eat the animals. It’s food for food.

I’m curious to see what, if any, are the US food exports to these countries that are having ‘issues’. If we aren’t regular trading partners with them, then our own biofuel uses for corn, etc, have nothing to do with their struggles
(altho, an excess of our own product would be welcomed in the starving nations).

So, I’m not jumping to conclusions. If/when it’s found out that we are burning what we used to ship, I’ll scream louder than anyone. But I don’t know enough about our trading partners to immediately blame Bush, Gore, etc.

If anyone has this kind of info...

    A ‘fair’ sentence:

Each of them gets beaten til unconscious in jail, then when they recover, they get beaten again. Oh, make sure this video gets posted on the web.

Then, after they are released into the wild, they individually get invited (lured) to a ‘welcome home’ party, where they each get beaten til unconscious, then when they recover...

I think you get the idea.

I don’t know much about the LA TV market, but I know CBS is making similar cuts in all of their O&O’s.

Out here in Minneapolis, a very popular weatherman of 20-years was let go in a cost-cutting move, among others (they are also trying to offer buyouts to union photogs and techs).

I’m sure the network revenues were down thanks to the writers strike (ad revenues had to be down for reruns)...lower numbers in general for local news, it’s lots of things.

And it will more than likely continue in other media outlets.

They will, they were the #2 national seed going into the tourney.

When the NCAA sets up the tourney, after screwing Arizona State (sorry, had to put that in there), they seed the top 4 teams, so if they all make it to the Final Four, as it happened this year, #1 would play #4, #2 would play #3.

The seeds were UNC, Memphis, UCLA, Kansas, in that order.

So the Tigers will wear white, and hopefully get record win #39 Monday.

I’m still happy that UNC got bounced. Can’t stand ‘em.

Sure, I give KU lotsa love for tonight, and I much prefer Self to that smarmy Roy-boy...didn’t like Roy at KU either.

Come to think of it, KU beating Oklahoma 20 years ago sucked.

    But tonight, ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!

I like Calipari, even when he tried his hand at the NBA with the Nets (he would have done fine IMHO given enough time).

I’ll be satisfied if Memphis wins. They’ve been the best team all year.

Well I’m for stricter sentences across the board. I would have alot more prisons operating, maybe more than some here would want, maybe less.

Our justice system has created and continues to create a new class of citizens, the criminal class. They cause harm, get caught (hopefully), get convicted (hopefully), and imprisoned. Unfortunately in many cases these people become more dangerous, and then they are released into our civilization to pick up where they left off.

Could be gang bangers, could be twisted individuals, I would prefer they were sent away for long stretches.

2-5 for robbery? make it 12-15. 5-10 for assault? 20-25.
rape? murder? life sounds good to me.

    Too much?

That’s what Condor was getting at and honestly I wasn’t thinking about the issue in those terms. That’s why I asked, because I now see the issue from a different perspective which makes sense.

I’m all for personal responsibility, being accountable for ones actions and all, so your post resonates.
