I’ve had a similar experience in Palestine. We were there for a week. Trash everywhere. We spent time with locals and dined in Palestinian homes, both Christian and Muslim. The people we met were kind and welcoming. My takeaway was the leadership is corrupt (little if any of the $ sent their way is used to help people) and inbreeding is real (birth defects were startling). If you want me to care and respect you as a nation, care for yourself. Even if you are poor, you can put trash in a wastebasket, not on the ground.
I never eat there. First, bad food. Second, bad service. And third, bad business model- I hate having to wait in line to pay my tab. They just want you to spend more time in their country store.
My husband and I got Covid in Alaska in August while we were in Alaska. Not a fun way to spend your vacation. I was worse off than him but started to improve after a day on antivirals.
I think Alaska was a breeding ground. Thousands of folks unload from cruise ships to travel buses and then dropped in small communities to visit the sites. We heard coughing everywhere. More than normal for sure.
I caught in Alaska in August. Felt like the flu. I was out a couple of days and diminished for a few days after that. I took antivirals and that helped. I’m back to normal and grateful that it wasn’t too bad. I tested positive

I had a scratchy throat for a few days and didn’t think anything about that. Then we spent a couple of days on boats touring and fishing getting wet and freezing and I think that stressed my immune system. It hit me pretty hard, but I packed antivirals and that helped. I was down for two days and diminished for a few after that. My husband didn’t get it as hard as I did. I’m glad it’s behind me.
