  • White Protestants, your monopoly is over

White, British-descended protestants are the ones who founded and built this country. Not alone, but they were, and still are to a large extent, the defining force. WASPs are the true Native Americans as there would be no America as we know it without them.

The truth, however, is that we are “bearers of a much more profound dignity,” capable of self-control and not “slaves of our desires or lusts,” he explained.

“We undermine our own dignity as persons when we permit ourselves to become enslaved to our own passions,” he added.

This is not only a question of dignity as I wonder how much emotional suffering the whole 'if you feel like doing something, do it' mentality causes today. Betrayed spouses, broken families, hurt children etc. The 60s and all that followed were truly a curse for the Western world. And I say this as an atheist.

“This fascinating book is the first volume in a projected cultural history of the United States, from the earliest English settlements to our own time. It is a history of American folkways as they have changed through time, and it argues a thesis about the importance for the United States of having been British in its cultural origins.”

“The thought that students who stand up for Israel could be made targets of mockery can have a chilling effect and may cause other students to think twice before taking such a stand,”

When you start advocating for something as a public figure, it is ridiculous to be expected not to be a target of mockery. I you don't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

A dirty little secret is that the so-called women's liberation, in the context of the welfare state, has developed into a societal nightmare. 70+% of divorces are nowadays initiated by women, often for very frivolous reasons. Ability and willingness to be a committed provider for the family is no longer something many women look as the most important characteristic of a husband. All this is enabled by the welfare state and encourages the development of all kinds of social pathologies so common among children who grow without a committed father. In addition, men who have traits which have been critical for the development of civilization (long-term commitment and thinking, intelligence) are no longer universally rewarded by women. None of this has necessarily anything to do with religious beliefs. I say this as a conservative atheist.

I don't think anybody expect a tiny majority of conservatives wants to 'control women' but we sure as heck do want people in general to be made to suffer the consequences of their bad choices. Freedom without responsibility is liberal pipe dream.

I’m sure that the NPR lady is a snooty feminist. However, Gene Simmons’ view that monogamy is ‘not biological’ and that this somehow justifies a promiscuous lifestyle is diametrically opposed to everything I consider the core principles of conservatism. Man can be much more than biology and the institution of monogamous marriage was established primarily to channel both male and female sexuality into something which builds and maintains society. The western world is on a path of demographical suicide partly due to the glorification of a lifestyles of which Simmons is one representative.

The trouble with modern society is that everything is reduced to short-term emotional gratification.

Maybe this is how nations die. After all the basic values and the heroes that created it have been deconstructed and generally trashed and all the foundation myths have been traded in for hedonism and bucket lists where is the logic for either sex to invest in a family and procreate a new generation. We may not like them but the Muslims are staying true to their beliefs.

I read somewhere that up to 36% of women turning 40 in 2011 are without children in the urban areas of Scandinavia. And this is the semi-socialist utopia with government supported child care et cetera which the left says will help women to combine a career and family. As usual, throwing money at a problem does no good when it doesn't address the underlying civilizational issues which, of course, the left doesn't want to touch with a ten-foot pole.

What is a ‘powerful’ man? Someone who doesn't have the power to control their own appetites? Someone who is too narcissistic to look beyond themselves? If you can't control yourself you're not that ‘powerful’.

Exactly. Supposedly powerful men behaving in infantile ways is quite pathetic.

Contrary to what leftists like to believe, human sexuality in general has some pretty dark sides to it. I’m not a religious person but I do believe that both male and female sexuality needs to be socially controlled in order to maintain a civilized society. There’s not such thing as free love.

These party summer camps are breeding grounds for future left-wing leaders in Scandinavia. I am sure that what Breivik aimed to do was to strike fear to the Norwegian left-wing elite who send their children to these camps. This is where we have come. All is not well in western world.

The so-called sexual liberation of the 1960s may have begun with the innocent idea of ‘free love’ but at one extreme it has devolved into this kind behavior. Unfortunately, human sexuality has a dark side to it and this is the reason why traditional civilized society controlled it. This societal control was about protecting the weak and vulnerable and promoting a stable society based on a lifetime commitment between a man and a woman. These days a lot of pain and mistrust between men and women is created due to a prolonged and overly complicated mating game.

I have much for respect for actual technology billionaires, like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, than for managers like Whitman or Fiorina.

The curve plotted in your post 9 is ridiculous and a perfect example of agenda-driven ‘research’ (reminds me of global warming). A linear regression line fitted to these data points would indicate a positive correlation between corporate tax rates and revenues. I.e., when taxes increase, so do revenues.
