Doctor Raoul died Saturday of a rare form of cancer. He was 58. Raoul's family contacted us this morning to see if they could find out more about his activities as an activist. This is such a shock. His family is looking for photos and stories about him. He is and always will be a Free Republic icon. He kind of fell off the face of the earth about 2 or 3 years ago now. All attempts we made to reach him failed. If you have photos please contact me. Please feel free to post stories and I will make...

Alright, I am at a loss and am posting my first real vanity post. Stupid I know so try to go easy. I am trying to identify a giant hornet or bee. This thing has been hanging out on our outside light for at least 2 evenings. Tonight I had my better half take photos. In looking at forums, I haven't really been able to identify this other than the frightening Asian Giant Hornet. I really don't want this to be that as it would have a tendency to really freak me out. Whatever this is is about 2 inches...

It all started with my old Toyota MR-2 that we painted and gave to my son. Since then in 2001 we have had several cars that we have painted like flags. This is our latest incarnation and I think it is possibly the best! We now have 3 special shape balloons. The American Flag - America One, the Space Shuttle - Patriot & our newest balloon- The Lighthouse we affectionately call Flighthouse. A little background on the balloons. I blame Jim Robinson and Free Republic. Coming to this forum, I really wanted to do something. Something big... After 9/11, we...

By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer Wed Nov 8, 1:11 PM ET WASHINGTON - Resurgent Democrats say that if the Senate is equally divided in the new Congress they will demand the kind of power-sharing arrangement similar to the one worked out six years ago when Democrats and Republicans each held 50 votes. Control of the Senate was still hanging Wednesday, but Democrats were assured of 50 votes with the defeat of GOP Sen. Conrad Burns in Montana. They led in Virginia over GOP Sen. George Allen, setting the stage for a possible 51-49 majority that would include two Democrat-voting...

<p>Please take a moment to call the C-Span office to let them know you would like to see the Able Danger hearings today. The hearing starts at 2:30 eastern time today. It is not on their schedule and when I called C-Span they said they did not know if or when they would run the hearing. Then I called Congressman Weldon's office and they are baffled that C-Span is not running the hearing. I told Weldon's office I would put this thread up and hopefully enough people will call C-Span to encourage them to run the hearings live.</p>

Was on my way home and was listening to Curt Weldon speak about the Able Danger information some more. I thought it very important that he released the name of the staffer that did not let the Able Danger information go to the 9/11 Commission members. The staffer that interviewed (I think) Scott Philpot about the Atta information was one Dietrich Snell. Apparently, he is one of Gorelick's staffers. Curt Weldon wants to know why he did NOT let the information get to the rest of the commission members.

Well, we are getting ready for the 2005 ballooning season and I needed a newer car. My flagged out Cavalier went to Race Bannon, and my son is off to Russia for a month and won't be around much this summer so we sold his flagged out MR-2 to our mailman's son. I was carless. We picked up a Grand Am on eBay and have just finished painting it. I wanted my fellow FReepers to have a look. It is our best paint job yet! For more photos, please go to: For the finished car and for the work in...

West Virginia Makes English Its Official Language Measure Inserted Into Bill as Amendment AP People gather outside the West Virginia Capitol on Saturday, the last day of the legislative session. CHARLESTON, W.Va. (April 12) - Two days after the end of the legislative session, state lawmakers are discovering something few were aware of: They voted to make English the official language of West Virginia. The language amendment was quietly inserted into a bill addressing the number of members that cities can appoint to boards of parks and recreation. Among mundane details about record-keeping, the amendment adds the provision that "English...

When Doug Stenberg's colonel told him there was nothing the military could do to help Zaharra, a nine-year-old Iraqi girl, get the medical treatment she needed, he wouldn't accept the response. Zaharra had a cleft palate and a tumor on her upper jaw that extended into her sinuses. The colonel's superior had turned down his request. So Stenberg, a staff sergeant with the 744th Transportation Company, based in Hillsboro, challenged the decision of someone twice his superior. "'Sorry' is all he could say," he wrote in an e-mail sent by his wife to the Monitor."I had to ask, I thought...
