While there is report that Obama’s camp is distancing itself from the statement, its probably moreso due to trying not to muddy waters more than about his convictions. There is nothing wrong with what Jesse Jackson said. However, the truth does seem to hurt. Compared with the ‘Schlep’ talk all day, what’s wrong with putting the U.S. before any other nation; and dealing justly with other nations, even though we hold special favor of one over another? 5pillar.wordpress.com

If this took place in a real ’secular and liberal democracy,’ then surely this is a form of racism. Below is what wikipedia points out are the points (those relavent to this article) of a liberal democracy (like Australia) has, as per the theorist Larry Diamond:

1. Citizens have multiple channels for expression and representation such as diverse independent associations and movements which they have the freedom to form and join.
2. Individuals have substantial freedom of belief, opinion, discussion, speech, publication, assembly, demonstration and petition.
3. Civil liberties are effectively protected by an non-discriminatory, independent judiciary
whose decisions are respected and enforced by other centres of power.
4. Citizens are politically equal under the law.
5. Minority groups are not oppressed.

Please get back to fundamentalism of your own laws, and speak nor wish not of your fellow citizen. In the US, even today, this would probably warrant a federal investigation into violating the civil rights of others, and corruption at the governmental level of those running the township that allows this kind of hate to exist, with impunity and justification — but of course. This is not an anti-Catholic slam; even in Catholicism, which promotes pluralism as well (at least today), this practice would appear to be that which is oppressive.

It appears that Biden is the first one to stand up and point out the obvious. This is a far cry from “bomb, bomb, Iran.” This statement needs to ring loud, and most people in the U.S. should stop fearing to say so. Iran seeks nuclear power as an energy source; Israel went behind the world’s back and produced nuclear weapons; have yet to officially acknowledge there existence; nor is a party to nuclear treaties Iran is willing to be party to. This over-accountablity of Muslim states seeking nuclear power for energy versus a non-accountable, armed and threatening regional power, which states is not a threat to humanity, but has a UN Resolution rap sheet that begs to differ. 5pillar.wordpress.com

Nonetheless, it is being called a beauty pageant; meaning parading them based on their beauty. Besides, the fact that one wouldn’t put priests up for the same purpose to see who is more innocently beautiful - sexism, in one of its more negative forms, still applies here.

The very fact that this article exists also seems to attack those who are old…and if the message of beauty is not skin deep, then the priest seems to be lost here. It shouldn’t make a difference whether nuns are young or old; it’s their service to God and their parishioners that counts.

Although I understand a desire by the church to promote Catholicism, and have people return to the church; like bingo - we shouldn’t break God’s guidance in doing so.
