Working on Christmas Eve and through the government shutdown over border wall funding, President Donald Trump tweeted he had authorized the construction of a 115-mile stretch of border wall in Texas. "I am in the Oval Office & just gave out a 115 mile long contract for another large section of the Wall in Texas," President Trump tweeted Monday night. "We are already building and renovating many miles of Wall, some complete. "Democrats must end Shutdown and finish funding. Billions of Dollars, & lives, will be saved!" Working in the Oval Office after canceling his trip to Mar-a-Lago in Florida...

"This is a made-up fight, so the President can look like he's fighting, but even if he wins, our borders are going to be insecure," Corker said on CNN's "State of the Union." [Cut] "We can secure our borders," Corker said. "We can solve this problem. This is a made-up fight." Asked if he meant Trump was using this as a campaign issue rather than seeking a deal, Corker said, "it has to be that." "It's a spectacle, and candidly, it's juvenile," Corker said. "The whole thing is juvenile."

The President's strategy to shut down the government for the sake of a border wall only days before the Democrats assume majority control of the House is foolish and wrong. This shutdown also comes just days after a contentious Oval Office meeting between President Trump, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and presumptive Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi President Trump told the Democratic leaders he would take full responsibility if the government were to shut down – and now he has it. Yet the president is attempting to blame the Democrats for this shutdown, even though he is the one...

It's official: The government will be partially shut down through Christmas. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday that there is no deal, and the Senate is adjourned until Thursday, Dec. 27. The White House and Capitol Hill have made little progress towards finding a compromise -- President Trump is demanding $5 billion for his border wall, and Democrats insist they won't give him any of that funding. The government partially shut down at midnight Friday.

Sen. Ted Cruz says it will be “extreme” Democrats who rejected a single “penny” for border security who are to blame if the federal government shuts down. The Texas Republican told reporters on Friday that a “Schumer shutdown” will occur if the New York senator and his allies reject any compromise on border security funding. “The president was unequivocal this morning,” Mr. Cruz told reporters. “If Chuck Schumer and the Democrats adopt an extreme line, that they’re not willing to give a penny for border security, then Schumer will go forward and shut the government down. That would be an...

On Friday, Chief Justice John Roberts joined the liberal justices in a 5–4 decision to maintain the block on President Donald Trump’s new restrictions on asylum. Trump issued a proclamation in November prohibiting refugees from seeking asylum if they entered the United States without authorization. U.S. District Judge Jon S. Tigar swiftly halted the policy, prompting Trump to dismiss him as an “Obama judge.” Chief Justice John Roberts then issued a rare rejoinder, telling the AP: “We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges. What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges...

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t waste any time Thursday slamming her soon-to-be GOP counterparts in the House of Representatives for their passing a short-term spending bill that includes $5.7 billion that will fund President Donald Trump’s border wall. Ocasio-Cortez, the outspoken New Yorker who will be sworn-in to office next month, said border wall money could better be used for teacher pay, infrastructure and left-leaning distribution ideas like tuition, green jobs and prescription refills.

Can the government spend money that has not been specifically authorized by Congress? In theory – no. In practice? Absolutely. Each year the government spends hundreds of billions of dollars on things that are not specifically authorized by Congress. Both Democrats and Republicans have been complicit in this practice. President Donald Trump, to his credit, has worked hard to get his wall funding properly authorized. But he may ultimately do exactly what presidents before him have done: take advantage of the broken Congressional process.

Mexican government cooperating with new policy, Nielsen saysAsylum-seekers who crossed Mexico to reach the U.S. will be shipped back to Mexico to wait while their cases are being processed, the Trump administration announced Thursday, taking a bold and controversial step to try to head off new waves of illegal immigration. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Mexico is on board, and will offer humanitarian visas and work permits so the migrants can live while they wait for a decision from American authorities. The administration’s goal is to keep people from abusing the U.S. asylum system by making bogus requests then,...

GoFundMe for border wall raises more than $2M in just 3 days By Ben Feuerherd 2-3 minutes December 20, 2018 | 12:28am | Updated December 20, 2018 | 1:32am A supporter of President Trump’s border wall proposal has started a GoFundMe to help pay for the project — and the fund skyrocketed to more than $2 million on Wednesday night after being live for just three days. Brian Kolfage, a Trump voter and disabled Iraq War veteran with no connection to the administration, wrote that he set up the page because “President Trump’s main campaign promise was to BUILD THE...

Someone in the news media finally asked the White House an uncomfortable question — no, not Jim Acosta, whose only question is, “Are we fake news, Mr. President,” said with a daring stare — and it came from “Fox & Friends” of all places. On President Trump’s favorite program Wednesday, co-hosts Ainsley Earhardt, Brian Kilmeade, and Steve Doocy confronted White House adviser Kellyanne Conway with the depressing truth that Trump, employing his legendary cut-throat negotiating skills, had just embarrassed himself in trying to get what amounted to pennies in border wall funding. “[P]eople who voted for him and want the...

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP reasserted a directive Wednesday – that the Pentagon quietly dismissed last week – that the military will assume responsibility for building a wall along the southern U.S. border. Trump's announcement follows reports that the president withdrew his demand for $5 billion in funding for a border wall amid a lack of support in Congress as lawmakers seek a funding compromise that will keep the government open. Trump also repeated claims that a new trade agreement with Canada and Mexico will generate revenue that will fulfill his campaign promise of forcing America's southern neighbor to pay for the...

Anchor Neil Cavuto asked, “Are you of the mindset that reallocating funds from another department, let’s say Defense, is a wise strategy, or would that be rejected out of hand?” Thune responded, “I’m not a big fan of moving money. I think Defense ought to — we ought to be building airplanes and ships and all the things that we need to do to defend the country. But there are always dollars in budgets that you can move around, and in the Homeland Security budget, for example. And that’s the way that the appropriators came up with a mechanism that...

The terrorist attack on a French Christmas market should serve as a wakeup call to America. The stakes are too high for Congress to keep playing political games with border security. We need to build the wall. Americans awoke Wednesday to yet another awful reminder that we still live in a world beset with radical Islamic terrorism. In the night, the crack of gunfire and the all-too-familiar cry of “Allahu Akbar” rang out in a French Christmas market. At least four people who came out to enjoy Strasbourg’s famous Advent traditions are dead. As President Trump so astutely noted in...
