An outspoken Arizona sheriff has responded to a letter from the mayors of three border cities who asked him to tone down his comments on border security problems, saying, "feel free to 'drink the Kool-Aid'" of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke and President Obama. ... "The threat from an unsecured border is real, where 241,000 illegals were apprehended last year by the border patrol and an additional 400,000 got away just in Arizona alone!" the letter reads. "These are failing grades by anyone's score card." .... If your intent was to establish dialogue with me, you...

TIKRIT, Iraq, Feb. 26, 2009 – When approaching the border with Iran in Iraq’s Diyala province, travelers find a distinct lack of fences, signs or any other landmark letting them know that the border is near. Often the only way of knowing the border is near is by noticing one of the 100 or so checkpoints varying in distances along the imaginary line that delineates the border. Each one of these checkpoints is manned by Iraqi Department of Border Enforcement personnel who stand ready to detain anyone trying to cross over from Iran into Iraq illegally. Working alongside Iraq’s border...

When an old high school buddy offered Francisco Zavala money to be the driver on what he knew was a drug run, Zavala agreed. "It sounded like easy money to me," Zavala, 23, testified Wednesday in Pima County Superior Court. But it turned out not to be such a good deal. Fifteen minutes after Vincent Valenzuela, Andre Mays and Netzahualcoyotl Ramos went into a house on West Calle Colado, Zavala, who was waiting in the car, heard gunshots ring out, Zavala testified. All three men came running out, looking "very scared," Zavala said. Zavala was the first witness to testify...

BISBEE — Cochise County Attorney Ed Rheinheimer said he may seek a grand jury indictment against Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Corbett after a judge postponed a preliminary hearing Friday meant to determine if Corbett can be charged with murdering an illegal immigrant. Justice of the Peace David Morales granted the seven-week continuance after defense attorney Sean Chapman complained he had not received a complete set of police statements made by six Mexican nationals who were present when Corbett fatally shot Francisco Javier Dominguez-Rivera near Naco on Jan. 12. Chapman called it “fundamentally unfair” and “outrageous” that the County Attorney’s Office...

In an attempt to show the U.S. government that the influx of illegal entrants has become an epidemic, KNST-AM did what is in nearly every radio station's nature: It staged a stunt. At 7 a.m. Friday, about 150 people – most of them elderly, almost all of them white – joined talk-radio host Dave Skyler in the station's parking lot to create a "human welcome mat," a tongue-in-cheek message that didn't seem to extend a warm hand to illegal entrants. "I'm tired of no one listening (to us) that we have a border problem," said Claudia Hester, 54. People started...
