Tomorrow is Memorial Day, the day we have set aside to honor by remembering all the Americans who have died fighting for the thing we like the most about our America: the freedom we have to live as we please. No official day to remember is adequate for something like that. It's too formal. It gets to be just another day on the calendar. No one would know from Memorial Day that Richie M., who was shot through the forehead coming onto Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, wore different color socks on each foot because he thought it brought...

In an appearance today on "Imus in the Morning," Andy Rooney quickly turned down the temperature in the CBS newsroom. Don Imus: "So what do you think of these changes at CBS News?" Andy Rooney: "I’m not enthusiastic about it. I think everybody likes Katie Couric, I mean how can you not like Katie Couric. But, I don’t know anybody at CBS News who is pleased that she’s coming here."

Andy Rooney: Schieffer 'Embarrassing' CBS News CBS’s ‘60 Minutes’ curmudgeon Andy Rooney says Bob Schieffer is "embarrassing the hell out of CBS.” In a televised appearance with CNN’s Larry King, Rooney said Schieffer should keep the job he was assigned on an interim basis after the departure of former ‘CBS Evening News’ anchor Dan Rather. CBS has been in hot pursuit of NBC ‘Today Show’ co-host Katie Couric as a possible "news celebrity” replacement for Schieffer on the Evening News program. The Tiffany network has reportedly offered Couric $20 million to leave NBC and take the job. Rooney suggested CBS...

Get ready this evening for a real liberal tirade against the Military Industrial Complex. Watch Andy Rooney on 60 Minutes this evening (barf bag needed) Bottom line: Andy is upset programs may be cut like prescription drugs and (oh no, no, no) NPR.

Seeing as how I am one of the plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit targeting several Hollywood entities – studios, networks and talent agencies – for engaging in discriminatory practices against older writers, I’d have to be the worst sort of rat to suggest that it’s high time that CBS sent Andy Rooney packing. So I won’t suggest they retire him because he’s old. Instead, I’ll suggest they give him his gold watch because he’s really stupid. Clearly, in Rooney’s case, it isn’t a matter of age. His little screeds on “60 Minutes” have been boring and embarrassing for many...

Leading a parade of celebrity witnesses who claimed they were stiffed by a speakers bureau, Andy Rooney began his testimony Monday by questioning the wording of the oath to tell the truth. The CBS newsman later got a lecture from the judge for trying to interrogate a lawyer while on the witness stand. "No, no, no, Mr. Rooney," said federal Judge Colleen McMahon, her head in her hands. "The first rule is the witness never gets to ask any questions ... even if he's a journalist." Rooney was the first witness in the fraud trial of Alan Walker, 67, who...

Tonight on 60 Minutes, Andy Rooney's monologue was on the coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II. Rooney had newspapers from all over the globe strewn across his desk with essentially the same photograph of the Pontiff lying in state. He prattled on about the different angles of the pictures -- how some of them shot from the side, some from the bottom, how he only wore the red cape now that he had died, and was wearing brown shoes. He commented on how similar the Swiss language looked like German on the printed page. He mentioned how...

(CBS) The following is a weekly 60 Minutes commentary by CBS News Correspondent Andy Rooney. The desire most people have to believe in God wants some physical presence to worship and, for Catholics, the pope is that presence. He is God's emissary on earth. He provides Catholics with a comfortable feeling about his existence. I think there's more good will among religions here in America than there used to be. Not a lot of friction. Most Christians who are not Catholic are joining devout Catholics in sorrow and with genuine respect for Pope John Paul II. He was a good...

IN A recent speech at Tufts University, Andy Rooney reflected on the election and said, according to The Tufts Daily, that Christian fundamentalism is a result of "a lack of education. They haven't been exposed to what the world has to offer." Those comments as well as the identification of the "bigoted Christian redneck" after Election Day in various editorials left me wondering: Where do these "liberal elites" get this fictional image of Christians? When did this distorted perspective begin in our cultural history? How can I work to bridge this gap? Rooney is reflective of the "liberal elite" in...

Dan Rather, who has announced his "retirement" next March from the anchor desk he has held for 24 years, is a dinosaur. After the last old news anchor leaves (Peter Jennings will be the final one sitting), Mr. Rather, Tom Brokaw and Mr. Jennings will be fossils. There will not be their like again. It doesn't matter who replaces Mr. Rather. Everyone at that level of broadcast journalism has been ideologically vetted. No conservative is allowed to ascend to the top of major news organizations. If you disagree, try naming one.

Andy says Christian fundamentalism is a result of "a lack of education" ?!?! He said this to an audience last week, but I saw NOTHING on this anywhere. Did you? From http://www.themediareport.com/rooney.htm ... 60 Minutes grouch Andy Rooney spoke at Tufts University last week. And, according to a Tufts Daily article, Rooney told his audience that Christian fundamentalism is a result of "a lack of education. They haven't been exposed to what the world has to offer." Apparently, Andy is unaware of the countless Christians who have traveled the world serving the poor and spreading the Good Word. The article...

Veteran "60 Minutes" commentator Andy Rooney blamed political bias at CBS, and the fact the news business has been taken over by people he called "moneychangers," for the network's decision to air forged documents on President Bush's National Guard service in September. "I am very critical of some of the people at CBS who make it apparent what their political leanings are," Rooney said in a speech to Tufts University last week, in quotes picked up by RatherBiased.com. "That's what happened to this thing of Dan Rather's that got out," he explained. "There's no question they wanted to run it...

Speaking at Tufts University on Thursday night, CBS's Andy Rooney attributed the motivation behind CBS's hit on President Bush based on forged documents to the political agenda of CBS News staffers. "There's no question they wanted to run it because it was negative towards Bush," the Tufts Daily's Keith Barry quoted Rooney as revealing during his remarks. Rooney shares that ideological hostility to Bush, as Barry related how "Rooney also attributed voters' reliance on religion in the recent election to ignorance" and "said Christian fundamentalism is a result of 'a lack of education. They haven't been exposed to what...

Rooney offers his opinon Commentator answered questions on politics and journalism By Keith Barry Daily Editorial Board Andy Rooney, the "60 Minutes" correspondent who turned "curmudgeon" into a job title, spoke at the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy last night. Rooney's interaction with the crowd showed that the often controversial humorist and commentator managed to charm his audience. The speech, entitled "60 Minutes with Andy Rooney," took the form of an extended question and answer session. Rooney devoted less than 15 minutes to a short speech, in which he praised the value of education, lamented the current state...

Tonight, I want to help you wishy-washy Americans who haven't decided yet who to vote for Tuesday. Let me talk to you about both candidates. People decide who to vote for for some pretty silly reasons, I know that. Take what they look like, for example. Both Bush and Kerry are probably better looking than you are, so there's not much for you to choose between there. Now, if you like tall, Kerry is taller. The president looks like a nice, average, ordinary guy, and that's good. He isn't nice, average and ordinary but that's what he looks like. Sen....

Andy Rooney's Loosening Grip On Reality - Edward L. Daley Famed CBS commentator and leftist curmudgeon, Andy Rooney, has once again humiliated himself on national tv, and someone needs to tell him it's time to hang up his microphone and move to a nice retirement home in Kissimmee, Florida, or some other octogenarian haven. Now, I understand that the number of people these days who actually watch him and his chest-thumping, brow-beating, document-forging pals on '60 Minutes' is equal to the number of folks who believe that Elvis is still alive and living in a trailer park just outside of...

CBS curmudgeon Andy Rooney indicated yesterday he believes the controversial documents on President Bush's National Guard service are fake and said it could cost Dan Rather down the road. "I'm surprised at their reluctance to concede they're wrong," Rooney said, referring to CBS brass. Despite praising Rather as "a good, honest newsman," Rooney added, "I'm unsure if they're whistling in the dark instead of apologizing." The flap over the documents has rocked CBS News, has Republicans calling for Rather's head and has people questioning the credibility of Rather instead of Bush. Rooney doesn't think the network would try to ease...
