(AFP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pressed his Western allies to step up military supplies and vowed victory over Russia, as Kyiv marked two years since Moscow’s invasion on Saturday. The Ukrainian leader struck a defiant tone in the capital Kyiv with his troops in the east and south outgunned and outnumbered, and Russia having secured its first territorial gains in almost a year. Speaking to G7 leaders — some of whom had travelled to Kyiv — Zelensky said their “vital support” would help his country prevail on the battlefield. “And you know perfectly well that we need all this...

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) arrived in Ukraine on Friday, part of a congressional delegation set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as the nation marks the two-year anniversary of the start of its war with Russia. Schumer is being joined by four fellow Senate Democrats — Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Jack Reed (R.I.), Richard Blumenthal (Conn.), Michael Bennet (Colo.) and Maggie Hassan (N.H.) — in an effort to show Kyiv that the U.S. still stands behind the war-torn country despite the struggle to approve a new tranche of aid. In a statement, the Democratic leader said...

A lack of foreign aid deliveries from Western allies makes life “very difficult” for Ukraine’s fighters, a despairing President Volodymyr Zelensky said late Monday. Zelensky and other officials have repeatedly expressed frustration at the slowness of promised aid deliveries even as European countries struggle to find enough stocks to satisfy Kyiv’s demands. In Washington aid worth $60 billion is currently waiting to be approved by Congress, much to the anger of Ukraine’s leadership that wants the U.S. taxpayer funds released as a matter of urgency.

As Congress dithers about funding aid to Ukraine, Ukrainian military capabilities decline. This decline is gradual. Previously committed weapons, munitions, and supplies will keep some equipment flowing for months or even years. However, the effects of declining aid will be increasingly apparent on the battlefield. Ukraine is no longer able to conduct a counteroffensive. By February or March, it will have difficulty conducting local counterattacks, and by early summer, it will struggle to fend off Russian attacks. At some point, the front will collapse, and Russia will impose a harsh peace. Q1: Why is military aid needed? A1: Militaries in...

President Donald J. Trump was accused of withholding U.S. military aid to Ukraine in order to force compliance with his requests. This was the exact claim of those who attempted to impeach President Trump in 2019; this was their originating justification.Today, NBC is reporting that Joe Biden is looking at what military aid can be withheld from Israel in order to force compliance with their requests. I doubt the insufferable dolts in the media can see the ridiculous hypocrisy in this story.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky will come up empty in his latest swing through the U.S. Capitol. Negotiations on additional American aid to Ukraine paired with a border security package are dead for 2024, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly told his fellow Senate Republicans at their weekly lunch Tuesday. NEWS: McConnell told Senate R’s during lunch just now that the Ukraine/border talks are not going anywhere this year, and that it’ll be punted to January, per attendees. Echoes what Lankford has been saying publicly but notable that it’s coming from McConnell. — Andrew Desiderio (@AndrewDesiderio) December 12, 2023

Israel also accused Hamas of firing rockets 'from humanitarian zones', endangering civilians....“Hamas keeps putting Gazans in the line of fire. They fire dozens of rockets from the designated humanitarian zone, rockets that often misfire and put even more Gazans at risk,” the IDF said. The IDF released drone footage on Saturday that showed Hamas terrorists stealing humanitarian aid from civilians and assaulting them in the northern Gaza Strip neighborhood of Shaja'iya. The video shows members of Hamas bringing bags of humanitarian aid into their own vehicles and assaulting civilians who attempt to interfere.

[CBS' Charlie] D'agata: The UN has said repearedly there is no safe zone in Gaza. Your answer to them? IDF: 'There is.' D'Agata: The Israeli military insists that they've assured safe passage of aid, but trucks are lined up on Egypt's side of the Rafah crossing, waiting to cross. IDF's Elad Goren: And we want to increase the humanitarian assistance. Now if the UN tomorrow will come to us and say, we need 300 trucks, they will get 400 trucks. [...] D'Agata: So how do you move trucks in a conflict zone? IDF's Elad Goren: Rafah is a big place....

(Via Twitter/X) It's the feel-good video of the season, as one fed-up Gaza woman dares to tell a so-called journalist the truth he doesn't want to admit. For ordinary Gazans, the war their Hamas government started has made life difficult at best. "The situation is difficult, the aid is not coming," a reporter explains to a woman who might have limited access to food and water — but that old gal is having none of his excuses. "All aid goes underground," she replies, referring to the spiderweb of underground tunnels that house Hamas and their rocket factories. "The aid does...

President Joe Biden echoed the warnings of his defense secretary in an address to the public this week, saying if Congress does not pass $64 billion in aid to Ukraine, U.S. troops will end up fighting Russia in Europe. “This cannot wait. Congress needs to pass supplemental funding for Ukraine before they break for the holiday recess. It’s as simple as that,” Biden began. He then accused skeptical Republicans in Congress of being “willing to give Putin the greatest gift he could hope for and abandon our global leadership not just to Ukraine, but beyond that.”

In a rare display of public criticism, a Gaza resident tells the Al-Jazeera TV channel that the lack of aid to residents of the Strip is due to Hamas stealing it. Asked about the supposed trickle of aid coming into Gaza, the woman, says there is plenty of aid, but “all aid goes down (into Hamas tunnels).” “The aid does not reach the nation, all the people,” she says. When the journalist from the pro-Palestinian Qatari channel tells her that only a small amount of aid is coming in and it is all being distributed, she shakes her fingers at...

President Joe Biden delivered his sternest warning yet to congressional Republicans balking at approving more aid to Ukraine: Pay up now or you'll pay more later, forced to send U.S. troops to fight Russian soldiers when an emboldened Russian President Vladimir Putin moves in on a NATO member country. "Congress needs to pass supplemental funding for Ukraine before they break for the holiday. It's as simple as that," Biden said at the White House as the GOP-led House mulled Biden's request for $106 billion in emergency spending, including foreign aid. "Frankly, I think It's stunning we have gotten to this...

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) floated a proposal Monday that would include aid to Ukraine and border security reform, while Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) hopes to have a vote on a bill tying Ukraine and the border to aid for Israel as soon as next week. Negotiations around foreign aid continue to unfold on Capitol Hill as bipartisan support for Israel is abundant, but support for a Ukraine package is thin among conservative Republicans. However, Johnson, who oversaw the advancement of a standalone Israel aid bill with cuts to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in early November, indicated...

Hamas says it is delaying the handover of hostages on the second day of its truce with Israel as it disputes the amount of aid being delivered and selection of Palestinian prisoners being released. Diplomatic sources close to the negotiations tell CNN they are not aware that the process of Hamas handing over hostages has begun. These sources contradict what a Hamas and Israeli source earlier told CNN, and what Israeli media had been reporting: that the handover of hostages was underway. Soon after CNN initially reported about the process being underway, Hamas issued a statement saying they were delaying...

President Joe Biden on Friday hinted that he was considering conditioning aid to Israel on its military reducing bombing in Gaza in its offensive against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. During a press conference on Friday, a reporter asked him, “Mr. President, there are members of your party who would like to see conditions placed on aid to Israel. What is your view on that? They would like to see, you know, a reduction in the bombing and that sort of thing.”
