NEW YORK (AP) - Don't look for any flatulent horses or impotence cures during commercial breaks at the Academy Awards. The motion picture academy has an unusual hands-on policy to monitor advertising during the Oscars, approving each commercial and enforcing a strict set of rules regarding what can be shown. It will be nothing like the raucous Super Bowl free-for-all. "We want the show to reflect, not a stuffiness, but a dignity appropriate for film's highest honor," said Ric Robertson, executive administrator for the motion picture academy. "We want it to be a family affair that can be appreciated by...

Are the Saudis funding schools devoted to fomenting radical Islamic ideology? Dec. 3 — An intense behind-the-scenes diplomatic struggle over a controversial Saudi-funded academy in Germany has shed new light on the close relationship between Saudi government officials and an international network of mosques and schools—some of which, Western intelligence officials say, have become breeding grounds for terrorism. THE GERMAN SCHOOL, the King Fahd Academy in Bonn, provoked an uproar two months ago when German television reporters infiltrated its classrooms and videotaped a teacher inciting a holy war “in the name of Allah” and advocating martial-arts training—including the use of...

Researchers help define what makes a political conservative By Kathleen Maclay, Media Relations | 22 July 2003 BERKELEY – Politically conservative agendas may range from supporting the Vietnam War to upholding traditional moral and religious values to opposing welfare. But are there consistent underlying motivations? Four researchers who culled through 50 years of research literature about the psychology of conservatism report that at the core of political conservatism is the resistance to change and a tolerance for inequality, and that some of the common psychological factors linked to political conservatism include: * Fear and aggression * Dogmatism and intolerance of...

Cornell University’s professors and researchers are becoming increasingly brazen in their ideological war against President George W. Bush. During the last several weeks, a professor in the Department of Asian Studies has developed and advertised a new course on President Bush’s attempt to create “an imperial empire.” At the same time, a university-funded Latino research center is proudly selling propaganda posters that compare President Bush to former German Chancellor Adolf Hitler. Asian Studies Professor Brett de Bary is promoting a course that he says will be “team-taught” by the Cornell Forum for Peace and Justice (CFPJ). This course will not...

A couple of folks pointed out to me that some of the terminology in the original article might be cannon fodder for media communists who want to smear this site the same way they keep smearing Heston. I've reworked the article, but I'll only post the link so nobody with an agenda can blame the site for it. To summarize, I was saying that I had fallen for the media portrayal of Heston without having all the facts, and that the more I learn about him (primarily from this site) the more I feel he merits admiration and respect. Plus,...

And the Oscar Goes To …Saddam Hussein! By Michael Levine © 2003 The March 23rd broadcast of the 75th Academy Awards is long forgotten, the image of Iraqis pulling a stone head of Saddam Hussein through the streets of Baghdad having put Hollywood’s jeremiads against Operation Iraqi Freedom into what the Marxists fondly call “the dustbin of history.” But what is bound to be the long-lasting residue from Hollywood’s anti-war drum-beating is the clear-cut evidence of just how deeply most of the motion picture industry despises their audience. When Michael Moore (who made his hatred for Americans crystal clear...

Academy says Oscar show still a goInsiders laughat rumors of cancellation, postponement A worker dismantles red drapes that adorned the Academy Awards red carpet arrival area along Hollywood Boulevard on Tuesday. By Nicole Laporteand Timothy M. GrayHOLLYWOOD, March 21 — The gang will all be there on Sunday, according to Oscar insiders. Rampant speculation on Thursday painted a portrait of a hemorrhaging Oscar show, but honchos at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences laughed off most of the rumors. Despite talk of a wave of defections, most of the participants — presenters as well as nominees — have...

There was a face behind the paperwork of the rape case. And Lisa Ballas wanted Gen. S. Taco Gilbert, commandant of cadets at the Air Force Academy, to see that face clearly across his large black office table. It was April 8, 2002, Ballas recalled, and she had asked to talk with him about court-martialing her alleged attacker, a senior cadet who she said raped her at a party. After only a couple of minutes, however, her hopes evaporated. "Any other man would have done the same that night," Gilbert told her, she said. "You need to take responsibility for...

Chicago by Al Gore I hate tall people! Let me clarify that statement… I hate tall people sitting in front of me in movie theaters. Okay, just one more clarification… I hate tall people sitting in front of me in old movie theaters. The other evening I went to see Chicago at an old movie theater. I could have seen it in a hi-tech multi-plex theater but I swallowed the propaganda about patronizing old movie theaters in the interest of cultural preservation of our architectural landmarks. So what happened? A whole race of giants entered that movie theater and sat...

DENVER (AP) - When five female Air Force Academy cadets reported that they had been raped by classmates, they sought some support from the military. Instead, they were treated as if they were either crazy or promiscuous, says a former Air Force captain and founder of a group that tracks sexual assaults in the military. The women say they were reprimanded for reporting the attack, and four have left the academy. Now, the military has ordered a review of how the academy handles sexual assault allegations. "They have attempted to talk about it or find some assistance within the system....

A 7NEWS Investigation is shaking the very foundation of Colorado's prestigious Air Force Academy. Allegations of rape and betrayal have now made their way to the Pentagon. 7NEWS Investigator John Ferrugia has been working on the story for three months and says that a high-level Air Force investigation is under way after 7NEWS uncovered information about sexual assaults at the academy. 7NEWS Investigates found that when female cadets have reported a rape, they are punished, ostracized by their peers and the administration, and in some cases, drummed out of the academy. These cadets charge they are victims of the very...

The Nutty Professor The other day a friend of mine forwarded an account of an e-mail exchange between a cadet at the Air Force Academy and a professor at St. Xavier University. The cadet was innocently informing the college about an event called The Academy Assembly, a gathering where political subjects are discussed and inquiring about the best methods of advertising in the St. Xavier area. The letter ended up in the hands of a certain professor, Peter Kirstein, and here is the professor’s reply: “You are a disgrace to this country and I’m furious you would even think I...

Statement regarding Professor Peter N. Kirstein, Ph.D. Richard A. Yanikoski, Ph.D. President, Saint Xavier University November 15, 2002 During recent weeks Saint Xavier University has attracted national attention because a tenured professor of history sent a young Air Force Academy cadet some e-mail containing inflammatory, anti-military comments. Professor Peter N. Kirstein, an avowed pacifist, quickly apologized to the cadet and to the Air Force Academy for his e-mail message, but in the meantime thousands of other interested parties have taken offense. From the beginning of this incident, Saint Xavier University has worked to achieve four objectives: (1) to make things...

THE HATE-FILLED LEFTIST PROFESSOR OK .. in response to nearly 100 very demanding e-mail messages, here is what I have been able to find out about that incredible letter from the history professor at Saint Xavier University in Chicago to that cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy. The Air Force Academy has a program called The Academy Assembly. You will read a description of The Academy Assembly below. An Air Force Academy cadet named Robert Kurpiel sent an e-mail to which ended up in the hands of Peter Kirstein at Saint Xavier. Here is the text of that e-mail:...

Over dinner on Sunday night at a Japanese restaurant off the much-bombed Jaffa Street in Jerusalem, Ofira Henig mentioned that she was leaving the next day for Berlin, Paris, and New York, in search of theatre companies to perform at next year's Israel Festival. When I said that sounded like pleasant work, she corrected me. She was dreading it. She knew that everywhere she went, people would pounce on her and demand that she explain why Ariel Sharon's government had re-occupied the Palestinian territories. Insults from ignorant foreigners are not the heaviest of the burdens Israelis carry this year, but...
