City officials in Dallas have declared protesters a high-risk population, and are particularly susceptible for coronavirus infections. Due to this new status, protesters now qualify for federally subsidized coronavirus tests. The Dallas Morning News reports that the city will open up a pop-up testing location for those who have participated in civil rights protests over the past 10 days. The site will be near the American Airlines Center and is expected to open Wednesday. The pop-up location will be run by the Parkland Health and Hospital System, as well as the city of Dallas. Since protesters are now designated a...

Demand for Abbott Laboratories rapid test for the Coronavirus strain Covid-19 continues to surge while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviews the product and more data comes out to support the diagnostic’s accuracy. The FDA last week said it had received 15 adverse event reports about Abbott’s ID NOW Covid-19 test, which has been hailed by the White House, drugstore chains, researchers and clinicians because it can deliver positive results in as little as five minutes and negative results in 13 minutes. As of Friday morning, Abbott said more than 2 million ID NOW rapid molecular tests had been...

The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first at-home test for the coronavirus. It's made by LabCorp, that said due to limited quantities, it will first be made available to healthcare workers and first responders... The FDA approval is not a "general authorization for at-home collection of patient samples" and only applies to the LabCorp testing kit. Right now, the kits are available in Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.

The FDA has authorized the first diagnostic test with a home collection option for COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus. In a statement released Tuesday, the FDA said that it had reissued an Emergency Use Authorization for LabCorp to COVID-19 RT-PCR Test to permit testing of samples that were self-collected by patients at home using LabCorp's Pixel by LabCorp COVID-19 Test home collection kit. "Throughout this pandemic we have been facilitating test development to ensure patients access to accurate diagnostics, which includes supporting the development of reliable and accurate at-home sample collection options," said FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn.

Abbott Laboratories is unveiling a coronavirus test that can tell if someone is infected in as little as five minutes, and is so small and portable it can be used in almost any healthcare setting. The medical-device maker plans to supply 50,000 tests a day starting Wednesday, said John Frels, vice president of research and development at Abbott Diagnostics. The molecular test looks for fragments of the coronavirus genome, which can quickly be detected when present at high levels. A thorough search to definitively rule out an infection can take up to 13 minutes, he said. Abbott has received emergency...

On Tuesday New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said there are “probably “hundreds of thousands of people” who have already had COVID-19, didn’t know they had it, and recovered. Cuomo continued to say these New Yorkers “should be tested for antibodies so they could go back to work and keep the economy going.” And now there is a test that will show if a person was already infected by the coronavirus and have developed anti-bodies. This new test could help put Americans back to work sooner rather than later.

A test can see if a person has ever been infected, even if they had no symptoms. by Antonio Regalado Mar 18, 2020 How widespread is the new coronavirus? How many people get it and don’t even know? What is the actual death rate? Those are some of the biggest questions that science doesn’t have the answers to. But a team at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York City just developed the very test we need to tell us. Their test, described in a preprint paper released today, looks for tell-tale antibodies to the coronavirus in people’s blood,...

One of the last major steps before SpaceX flies its Crew Dragon craft with real NASA astronauts onboard is an "in-flight abort test." Scheduled to take place during a four-hour window on Saturday, Sunday or Monday morning, it will test the vehicle's ability to safely get back to Earth if there's a problem during ascent. Come back here just before 8 AM ET on January 18th, and if the weather holds then you should see the Crew Dragon separate from its Falcon 9, then eventually land in the Atlantic Ocean. Even if you wake up a little late, keep an...

An American basketball player was suspended after an attempt to cheat at a urine drug test backfired spectacularly – revealing he was pregnant. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) banned Donell “DJ” Cooper Jr, a 28-year-old point guard who last played for AS Monaco, for two years for “fraud” after a urine sample was found to contain a hormone commonly associated with pregnancy. Cooper, a Chicago native and former college standout, had gone undrafted in the 2013 NBA draft but developed a successful pro career in Europe.

July 12, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — A mother in the U.K. is suing England’s National Health Service (NHS) for more than £200,000 ($249,000 U.S.) for “wrongful birth,” alleging that health care workers did not conduct tests that would have revealed her unborn son’s Down syndrome. Edyta Mordel told London’s High Court that had she known he would be born with Down’s, she would have aborted her child, now four-year-old Aleksander, the Daily Mail reports. Mordel, 33, says she requested the tests during her pregnancy and was devastated when her baby was diagnosed with Down’s after birth. The case is legally classified...

High schoolers who take music courses score significantly better on exams in certain other subjects, including math and science, than their non-musical peers, according to a study published by the American Psychological Association. "It is believed that students who spend school time in music classes, rather than in further developing their skills in math, science and English classes, will underperform in those disciplines. Our research suggests that, in fact, the more they study music, the better they do in those subjects." "Students who participated in music, who had higher achievement in music, and who were highly engaged in music had...
