  • Rwanda Bill: Top Tories Lee Anderson and Brendan Clarke-Smith quit as PM hit by right-wing rebellion

Evening Standard ^ | Jan 16 | Story by Rachael Burford
Rishi Sunak faces a fight with his right-wing MPs in a Commons showdown over his flagship Rwanda plan starting on Tuesday afternoon. Conservative deputy chairmen Lee Anderson and Brendan Clarke-Smith have joined more than 60 Tory MPs in backing controversial amendments being debated on Tuesday and Wednesday. The bill seeks to revive the Prime Minister's plan to deport some asylum seekers to the east African nation - proposals ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court last year. But a growing number of rebels have argued the bill does not go far enough and they want changes that will prevent legal challenges....

On January 13, 2024, more than a thousand people led by A. J. Hurley of the White Rose Resistance, a Christian activist group, gathered in Miller Park in Fontana, California to rally in favor of parents’ rights. They demanded that the Fontana school district adopt a parent notification policy in which children could not be socially transitioned without parental consent. They also called out Planned Parenthood for its sex education curricula related to sexual identity. After rallying in the park, the crowd marched through the streets of Fontana in a noisy but orderly demonstration.
  • Ron DeSantis Failed Spectacularly In Iowa, But It Didn’t Have To Be This Way

The results of the Iowa caucuses surprised no one: Donald Trump ran away with it, as his 28-point lead in the polls going into Monday suggested he would. The polls were accurate this time, and most corporate media outlets called Iowa for Trump not long after 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The former president ended up with 51 percent of the total caucus vote, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a distant second with 21 percent, and Nikki Haley coming in third at 19 percent. But the big news of the night isn’t Trump’s massive win, it’s DeSantis’ spectacular defeat....

Governor JB Pritzker (D-IL) said Monday on MSNBC’s Iowa caucus coverage that the “weakness” of former President Donald Trump was shown in his 30-plus point win. Pritzker said, “Almost half of the base of the Republican Party showing up for this caucus tonight voted against Donald Trump. Think about that. I mean, this is the most famous Republican. He’s the guy who, you know, basically built the modern Republican Party, the MAGA Republican Party that the Democrats are running against. Half of the people in that party did not vote for Donald Trump.” He continued, “I think that is telling....
  • Thousands of tractors flood Berlin’s streets in massive farmer protest (VIDEO)

More than 8,500 people and some 6,000 vehicles participated in a major rally in the German capital, police said Thousands of tractors clogged the streets of Berlin on Monday as German farmers staged a major rally to protest against agricultural policy changes planned by Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Cabinet. The government had earlier announced a reduction of tax breaks for the sector as well as plans to slash diesel subsidies. Photos and videos published on social media showed hundreds of pieces of agricultural equipment moving through Berlin’s streets in tight columns or standing at the side of the roads. Farmers moved...

[Catholic Caucus] Dutch bishop blasts ‘cowardly’ Fiducia Supplicans, urges scandalized Catholics not to leave Church‘This pontificate will naturally come to an end,’ writes Bishop Rob Mutsaerts. ‘Should you obey him? No. Stay in the Church!’Fiducia Supplicans – the controversial Declaration of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith – is above all a cowardly document. It refuses to name homosexual practices as intrinsically evil. It is now clear that Fiducia Supplicans is not about an expansion of the meaning of blessings, but of a deliberate modification of what is sin. Objections from numerous bishops – indeed, bishops’ conferences –...
  • Lawsuit Uncovers How Raffensperger Tried To Memory-Hole The Election Law Trump’s Georgia Call Was About

Raffensperger’s general counsel sent Factcheck.org a ‘legal analysis’ that attempted to discredit my analysis of the voter data. Election integrity advocates recently had a very important win when a federal district court ruled that challenging the eligibility of thousands of voters in Georgia did not constitute “voter intimidation.” Back in 2020, True the Vote, Derek Somerville and I, and three other activists were all sued by Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight organization for allegedly violating the Prohibited Acts section of the Voting Rights Act. We had independently organized two different sets of challenges to voters with residency issues ahead of Georgia’s...

One wonders what it's like to be Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, Leticia James, or Fani Willis waking up to watch CNN this morning. Here's CNN: Former President Donald Trump’s huge win in the Iowa caucuses on Monday enshrines one of the most astonishing comebacks in American political history. Losing one-term presidents almost never mount subsequent successful primary campaigns, much less pull off landslides that demonstrate utter dominance of their party. Trump transformed the GOP in his populist, nationalist, nihilistic image in 2016. By claiming 50% of the vote in the biggest win in caucus history, putting him on course to...

The candidates' late slogging through the snow may not have mattered Strong conservatives, older voters, MAGA fans, 2020 election deniers and less-educated Iowa Republicans piled in to help Donald Trump win Iowa's Republican caucuses on Monday night amid punishingly cold weather and depressed overall turnout, according to an analysis of entrance poll results. The former president -- despite spending relatively minimal time in the state, despite past indications that the base was considering other options and despite notable challengers, who spent months campaigning against him -- had by far the widest margin of victory in any meaningfully contested Iowa Republican...

I’ve written in the past that during the early GOP presidential campaign debates, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum came across as the adult in the room. Burgum proved himself to be articulate, authentic and funny. He spoke atop a platform of vast experience and came across as presidential. And yet most Americans don’t know his name. Why? Well, unfortunately for Burgum, most of the media — including much of the conservative media — unfairly relegated him to second-tier status in a class of candidates that included Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov....
  • Joy Reid sparks anger after saying white Christians are overrepresented in Iowa and Trump is so successful because they believe he will 'return' America to them

Cable news pundit Joy Reid claimed Donald Trump won the Iowa caucus because 'white Christians' believe he will 'return' the US to them. Reid called the Midwest state 'hyper evangelical' and therefore full of voters who support the former president in his campaign to regain the White House. Trump handily won the Iowa caucus on Tuesday night with 51 per cent of the vote in frigid conditions to kick off the primary season.

Republican Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) appeared at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday, while ignoring calls to criminally prosecute Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Kemp’s Davos vacation suggests he prefers to socialize with global elites than combat corruption in his own state of Georgia. Kemp told Georgia state lawmakers his Davos trip is “a great opportunity for me to be out here to share Georgia’s success story with people from around the world. Because I believe they can certainly learn a thing or two from us.” It is not clear what global elites would learn from...

The World Health Organization has quietly axed a trans activist with extreme views on medicating children from its transgender health policy panel. DailyMail.com reported last week that Florence Ashley was among the WHO's 21-person committee tasked with setting international treatment guidelines for treating gender dysphoria. Following the selection, it emerged the Canadian - who has no medical background - had published several papers calling for trans children to be given puberty blockers without mental health evaluations.

Biden and Congress continue their massive spending spree, mostly on themselves and their donors, creating a massive Debt Star capable of unfathomable economic destruction. This will require massive money printing to fund the US Debt Star. But as of today, M2 Money growth is negative as is bank credit growth. But all this is about to change. The U.S. federal government published a December deficit of $129 billion, up 52% from the previous year. The private sector recession is clear as expenses continue to rise while tax receipts decline. If we look at the period between October and December 2023,...

Iowa Republicans were a clear reflection of that on Monday night, delivering the former president an emphatic victory. They channeled his anger, and his view that basically everything President Joe Biden has done has been a “disaster.” He’s convinced many Republicans he didn’t really lose the 2020 election to Biden, repeatedly making false claims, and has dominated the race the way someone still in office does. With its more moderate, educated electorate, New Hampshire presents Trump’s rivals with possibly their best opportunity to slow his march. Indeed, about two-thirds of caucusgoers said they felt their finances were holding steady or...

Russians have blamed their own air defenses for the reported loss of an A-50 surveillance aircraft over the Sea of Azov. Pro-war Telegram channel Fighterbomber, which is believed to be affiliated with the Russian Air Force, published a lengthy post after Ukraine claimed to have downed an A-50 and damaged an Il-22M airborne command post on Sunday. The Rybar Telegram channel, which has links to Russia's Defense Ministry, also said the aircraft could have been struck by "friendly fire." -snip- The A-50 is a Soviet-era reconnaissance aircraft used to prepare strikes and prevent enemy attacks; the loss of such an...

As an electrical engineer, the most glaring problem with EVs is that we simply do not have the grid capacity to power a national EV fleet. A few months ago some colleagues and I did the analysis for California – Australia is similar. In order to create the same “power to wheels” as currently provided by gasoline and diesel, California would need to double its generation capacity.

Biden deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks went on NBC's Meet the Press to reassure voters that "restoring every woman's right to abort her unwanted child that was granted by the Supreme Court in its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision is President Biden's top priority. It is unfathomable that women today have less rights than their ancestors had years ago." "Just the other day Vice-President Harris pointed out that preventing a prospective mother from aborting her child is a cruel act," Fulks said. "Not only does it go against the 13th Amendment's abolition of slavery, it also subjects the child to...
