Republican Glenn Youngkin has defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe in Virginia’s closely watched gubernatorial race, NBC News projected early on Wednesday morning. Youngkin, who received Donald Trump’s endorsement in May, led a largely ill-defined campaign, often hewing close to the former president’s 2020 election lies while also coyly trying to distance himself from them. Similar to Trump, Youngkin is a businessman with no political experience whose campaign focused on hot-button social topics — like outrage over school curricula — rather than substantive policy discussions.

A Massachusetts teacher who was forced to resign after photos of him at the Capitol on January 6 were shared online has won a seat on the district’s school board. The former Braintree High School teacher Matthew Lynch, 35, was visited by the FBI during his campaign. Lynch resigned in February after working at the school for approximately ten years.

PUYALLUP, Wash. — Puyallup Police said they could not legally pursue a suspect vehicle even though it rammed their cars right in front of their eyes. They said the new police reform laws prevent it. For the first time in more than a quarter century, Westmoreland County will have a new top prosecutor. With 100% of the county’s 307 precincts reporting Wednesday morning, Republican Nicole Ziccarelli erased an early lead held by six-term Democratic incumbent John Peck and claimed the race for district attorney.
