Archbishop Cordileone’s Response to Speaker Pelosi’s Comments About Pro-Life VotersMost Rev. Salvatore J. CordileoneJanuary 21, 2021On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized prolife voters who voted for Donald Trump on the abortion issue, saying their votes cause her “great grief as a Catholic” and accusing them of “being willing to sell the whole democracy down the river for that one issue.” Most Reverend Salvatore J. Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, issued the following statement in response: “To begin with the obvious: Nancy Pelosi does not speak for the Catholic Church. She speaks as a high-level important government leader, and as...

At a time when legacy publications are increasingly seen as playing for one political "team" or the other, this type of editorial decision will not do anything to fix that perception.UPDATE: As of 1:15 p.m. on January 22, The Washington Post has updated its website and URLs to restore the original version of the Kamala Harris profile detailed in Reason's post, below. "We should have kept both versions of the story on the Post's site (the original and updated one), rather than redirecting to the updated version," Kris Coratti, the Post's vice president for communications, told Reason in a statement...

The Washington Post scrubbed an unflattering anecdote of Vice President Kamala Harris crassly laughing at the thought of a prisoner begging for a drink of water — then backtracked Friday after an eagle-eyed reporter took notice. Harris made the comments in a July 2019 Washington Post profile about her relationship with her sister and trusted aide, Maya Harris, when the former California prosecutor was running for president. But that story disappeared from the site — with its link redirecting to a newer version published on Jan. 11, sans anecdote.

A herb dealer, Rofiat Biliameen, has petitioned a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve her two and a half-year-old marriage to estranged husband, Ahmed Biliameen on grounds of deception and distrust. Rofiat told the court that her husband was also blackmailing and threatening to kill her. “In 2018, when I was looking for an apartment to rent, I informed Ahmed as one of the landlords at Ayegun-Olomi, he promised to get me an apartment which he did. “However, he soon started wooing me because according to him, nobody would give an apartment to an unmarried woman in that community....

AJ has spent the last six years trapped in their house, as well as in their own body. The super morbidly obese 24-year-old can spend 19 hours a day on a mattress in the living room - staring at the same four walls all day. AJ, who lives in Airdrie, Scotland, is forced to sleep on a pile of pillows while using a special sleep mask because the excess weight compresses the airway. The biggest fear for mum Sharon is that AJ will stop breathing during the night, so she sleeps beside her child on another mattress. Even the most...

A mythical, ape-like creature that has captured the imagination of adventurers for decades has now become the target of a state lawmaker in Oklahoma. A Republican House member has introduced a bill that would create a Bigfoot hunting season. Rep. Justin Humphrey's district includes the heavily forested Ouachita Mountains in southeast Oklahoma, where a Bigfoot festival is held each year. He says issuing a state hunting license and tag could help boost tourism. "Establishing an actual hunting season and issuing licenses for people who want to hunt Bigfoot will just draw more people to our already beautiful part of the...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) was noticeably missing from President Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday. The self-described democratic socialist claimed that security concerns were a factor in her skipping the inauguration, adding that she and fellow Democratic lawmakers don’t feel safe around Republicans. Ocasio-Cortez appeared on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time,” where she was asked about her absence at President Biden’s inauguration. “You knew that people would ask why you weren’t there,” CNN host Chris Cuomo said Thursday evening. “This was a good cause, from your perspective, of dealing with your constituency. But this was supposed to be a show of force,...

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced anger from some of Canada’s premiers Thursday over U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline project — including heated calls for punishment that could fracture ties between the two allies. The First Ministers call, which lasted just over an hour, also touched on the coronavirus pandemic and issues with the nationwide vaccine rollout, sources told Global News. But Canada-U.S. relations in the wake of Biden’s controversial move dominated the discussion. “Some premiers want to go to war” with the United States over the cancellation, aides of those who participated in the...

President Biden may cast his arrival in the White House as a return to business as usual at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but there’s at least one way he’s breaking from prevailing presidential tradition: he wears a Rolex. At his inauguration, Mr. Biden laid his hand on the family Bible wearing a stainless steel Rolex Datejust watch with a blue dial, a model that retails for more than $7,000 and is a far cry from the Everyman timepieces that every president not named Trump has worn conspicuously in recent decades. To many, a president wearing a luxury watch might not seem unusual. Shouldn’t...

While at her Hart Senate Office Building in Washington, a group of congressional staffers had gathered to meet the "Democratic star". The staffers all stood up but for one, who Ms Harris ordered to get to his feet immediately. Journalist Abby Aguirre wrote: "Harris has an air of celebrity that, under normal circumstances, a freshman senator wouldn’t have had time to acquire. "But this year has been anything but normal. "She greets the 20-somethings as though they’re relatives at a family reunion: 'Hi, everybody! Hi, guys!' "Then she notices that one of the staffers is still seated, and her voice...

Wednesday evening, during an appearance on Tucker Carlson's Fox News program, I analogized Black Lives Matter to the Ku Klux Klan. It's a provocative and jarring analogy. It's a comparison I truly believe. Friday morning, a reporter from my hometown paper, the Indianapolis Star, contacted me asking for clarification of my analogy. I told the reporter that I would respond in writing via email because I felt it was the best way to ensure that I thoughtfully addressed the inquiry. A few hours later, the Indianapolis Star published a fair story relaying my thoughts. Here's a link to the Star...

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) on Friday said she would not switch parties as she revealed she didn’t vote for President Donald Trump. A longtime moderate who is out of line with some conservative views, Murkowski was a frequent Trump critic who has expressed an openness to convicting him on the recently passed article of impeachment and called for him to resign. Trump remains popular among Republican voters and is considered by some the head of the Republican Party despite his loss in the 2020 election. “I can be very discouraged at times with things that go on in my own...
