The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

As a non-christian, striving to have my way, no matter what anyone else thought about it, probably.

Only if you thought the "wrong" was necessary for a greater "good." I'm just not buying that anyone is convinced and quite content that their own actions are "wrong."

Have you never seen a child (or an adult, for that matter) disobey authority, for the sole purpose of defying that authority ?

Which is juvenile behavior. Do you think Satan is merely having a temper tantrum?

"Eustachy" even sounds like something we shouldn't be doing.

"Your honor, the defendent was witnessed by over 25 people in the throes of uncontrollable eustachy. This alone is punishable by law."

(SD) You can be thrown out of the country, but you will forever be born an American.

(Reg) Without doing your usual dance will you explain to me where a born American will be sent to when he is thrown out?

What are you on about now? Puerto Rico, Canada, Morocco, Switzerland, Australia, Korea.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. The United States will not "throw out" a native born to any other country.
==============================================================================

It doesn't matter. It had nothing to do with my point. And I know you aren't that obtuse. The point is that someone who is born an American can never have that "bornness" revoked.

It matters because you said it. We are not mindreaders and can't be expected to sort through what you say and sift out the junk.

This is the same way Catholics.

I know what you mean and I know your "throw out" analogy doesn't work.

Are you talking about his coaching or, ummmmm ... other "functions"? ;o)

I was talking about his daily functions. I already know too much about his nightly functions.

Reggie, can you explain this again? I have no idea where your confusion is lying.

I made a simple statement that no matter what happens to a person, including deportation, a born American will never be an "unborn" American.

I know you know exactly what you mean. I am just wondering exactly what point you think you are making?

Knock it off with the eustachy, and just say it straight, ok?

Okay, ... let's consider con-artists. Do you think that they are considering a greater good ? Do you think that they do not know that it is wrong to separate you from your money ?

Have you never seen a child (or an adult, for that matter) disobey authority, for the sole purpose of defying that authority ?

Which is juvenile behavior. Do you think Satan is merely having a temper tantrum?

Do you not see a connection between evil behaviour and immature behaviour (i.e. me, me, ... all for me !) ? Does it not appear that Satan's behaviour is immature ? Doesn't mature behaviour take into account what's good for others, as well as what I perceive to be good for me ?

On a related note ... have you ever read any of M. Scott Peck's books (i.e The Road Less Traveled, The People of the Lie, etc.) ?

Damn. I was looking forward to the all-you-can-drink Natural Lights. The seventh inning pretend-to-stretch-but-really-put-your-arm-around-the-college-chick-next-to-you. The flick-the-ashes-in-the-beer-can contest in the middle of the fifth. They were even going to borrow Bernie Brewer's giant keg from Milwaukee just for the occasion.

I think that they, and large numbers of our populace are utterly without a conscience. They may know it is illegal, but they are not convinced of their wrongness.

Yes, of course. The question is not whether you or I know this, but whether Satan does.

I was looking forward to the all-you-can-drink Natural Lights.

That's $1 a piece. When I was in Tennessee I saw an ad for a place that was offering an "all you can drink" beer special for $6. Any bar that tried that here would lose their license so quick they wouldn't know what hit 'em.

Granted, my client had his arm around Miss Pretty, but I hardly think this rises to the Constitutional level of "High Crimes and Eustachies."

Taking a little break from today's seminar.

In the interest of presenting the Gospel accurately. I got to thinking about our little discussion the other day. If Mary knew before she had her chat with the angel that she was to remain a virgin for eternity, why in the world didn't she tell Joseph?

Matthew 1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

He wanted to dump her for cying out loud. I guess that shoots your little Mary fantasy all to hell. :-)

Ugh! Cinco de Mayo?! One of my peeves. I think CD can vouch for me here ... Cinco de May seems to be becoming more celebrate here than our own independence day. Why, oh, why do we celebrate Mexico's independence day on this side of the Rio Grande?!

Re. #50417

In response to Catechism 1390 "Since Christ is sacramentally present under each of the species, communion under the species of bread alone makes it possible to receive all the fruit of Eucharistic grace. . . . "

I asked:

"Is Jesus physically present, body and blood, for all the sacraments?"

To which you replied:

"In the person of the priest for sacraments where the preist is the celebrant."

"But other than that, no it is a spiritual presence, or a spiritual outpouring of gifts."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I asked the "physically present . . . " question because I was confused by the Catechism's use of "sacramentally present" to justify the validity of communion under one kind.

Your answer seems to say this is so only when the priest is the celebrant.

My understanding is the Priest is the celebrant at all the sacraments except Matrimony. Am I wrong? Are you saying the priest is the celebrant only for the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist?

Sacrament of Baptism
Sacrament of Confirmation
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist
Sacrament of Penance
Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick
Sacrament of Holy Orders
Sacrament of Matrimony

According to my understanding of what you said, I assume you believe Jesus is present, body and blood, even when the bread and wine are not present.

Do you see my confusion?

Are you saying communion is not necessary at all?

Hello? Jospeh found out that Mary was pregnant. Her being pregnant was evidence of #1, her breaking her virginity vow, #2, with some other man, #3 therefore being a bit of a slut.

Being "just" he was going to do it quietly so she wouldn't get stoned. It has no bearing on her virginity. Jospeh acted as you would expect, until the angel told him she wasn't a fornicator.

Being in Texas you should know that Cinco de Mayo is not "Mexican independence day." That is later, in September I think. Rather, it is a celebration of a small force defeating a much larger French force.

That being said, there is certainly a difficulty with immigrant populations who do not assimilate. But that is not to stop the rest of us from welcoming them to assimilate, by turning their holidays into reasons to party.
