The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Haven't you read what Dave has said?

Yes, I have. And my understanding of what he said is quite different than yours.

Maybe you are. I am afraid you won't settle for a simple answer. Carry on.

That's for me to decide, isn't it? Is there no NC who can answer this simple question?

Why won't any of you guys answer?

Oh well, when your argument crumbles, praise God and bash me. It's so typical.

Do you need for his comments to be re-posted?

I will await Dave's clarification.

The manner in which you are presenting these cases doesn't seem to be calling for justice but for vengance. There is a difference. The death penalty is in place to remove a menace to society from that society. It is not in place to seek vengance

I stand behind what I posted earlier but if I was on the jury, the guy that tortured and then murdered little Samantha might be an exception.

Dave is now claiming that pedophile priests who have engaged in the ongoing, habitual practice of pedophilia over decades of time are not conscious of their wickedness.

Dave, is this an accurate characterization of your opinion? If not, please correct.

Why would I expect anyone to characterize what I say accurately?

I said nothing about whether they were "conscious" of their "wickedness." Only that certain sinful acts, which one attempt to refrain from, can sometimes occur when we are weak. This is not to say that we set out or have a "conscious design" to sin, just that we fail.

Of course, upon reflection, even whilst sinning we can be "conscious" of our "wickedness."

My words are being twisted around. As usual.

It would help if there was an honest NC around who might join in an honest examination of the occasions of sin and the impulses and motives and culpabilities for such. But that will have to wait for the Lutheran or Anglican, who, of course being sacramental, don't count.

There have been a lot of priests who have been bounced, only not enough of them.

Including all the old threads it would be over 120,000 posts. But who's counting? ;o)

SD must have thousands of double's on the net. I run into the same type double spin all over.

Did any of them get you to answer the questions?

He has sensed this and is now shifting to the "heinous" nature of the sin. His point being that, yeah, he may sin and may even repeat sin after repenting, but at least he does sin that horribly.

If the scribes or Pharisees had asked Jesus if he had ever sinned, what do you think He would have said?

No! I have never sinned?

Jesus never sounded His own trumpet or bragged. I believe instead of distancing Himself from everyone by saying I have never sinned, He'd have said something like,

Sin is the transgressions of God's laws, I love the Father and his laws, and keep His Commandments.

Then I can hear the Pharisees now.

Answer the d@mn question, and stop avoiding the answer, have you ever in your life, blah, blah, blah ? :-)

BOTD Blasphemy of the day!

Sounds like a perfect title for a new series of recurring threads in the Religion forum.

My experience is that a driver in a car hears them only as they blow past. Bikers should really rev it up before they go to pass a car. If they are passing a truck ands then a car, the truck blocks out most of the sound.

But, but, how can you say that? How could you possibly believe something like that? Just more of you Catholics inventing tradition. Why don't you try backing that up with scripture?

I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. (Romans 7:15)

Oh, never mind. ;o)

You could ping Quester or the808bass, but then you'd have to explain the whole thing all over again.

Do you have your begging clothes on? Are you on your knees and in a prayerful posture?

Oh well, when your argument crumbles, praise God and bash me. It's so typical.

That's why! You have just provided your own answer. You are right. It is typical of you.

How many NC's have you found cheering and defending the most extreme arguments of in_principio_erat_Verbum?

Does it remind you of how difficult it was to get any of the RC's to deny it was/is ok to kill "heretics"?
