Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
Probably a combination of the two.
Interesting. This could be seen as support for the description of the trinity you gave me several weeks ago -- where it discussed the differences between the persons according to their functions.
I agree, Mack! (Well, not the part about Steven. ;o) I go a few days without stopping in here, and I start wondering how everyone is doing. Ya'll are like family now! :o)
1.Jew (who let him in here anyway?:)
Heheheh, you can thank Steven for that!
I spent most of the day today trying to break in a new computer. When we powered it up for the first time, I made sure I was there so that it would "imprint" and be familiar with me and easier to handle. I carefully fed it new software and files through the network hookup from its mama computer. Tomorrow, I'm going to hook up the printer and see if its ready to go on its own! ;o)
I've had the same computer at work for about four years. When I first got it, it was top of the line. Now, it would be less than average for all of our workstations. For the past year I've been thinking about upgrading, but I had so much software and so many files on the old one, the prospect of moving all the files and reinstalling all the software was daunting. I finally decided to bite the bullet and do it.
We set a record high today, 82º! It is 10:30 at night, and it is still in the 70s. The forecast low for Wednesday night is 26º, and a forecast high of 35º with a mix of rain and snow showers for Thursday. April in Wisconsin!
EEP! Best wishes, I pray it goes well for you.
I'd love to have someone explain to me how Hagar is supposed to be the mother of Israel. Paul could not have more completely turned the meaning of the Torah on its head than he does here.
Where have all the cowboys gone?
(To jail, or to Arizona, I guess. ;o)
So you would hold that the following is not a messianic passage?
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15, KJV)
Can we assume the same about any person mentioned in scripture, if his parentage, birth and/or death are not explicitly noted?
IMO it is not a matter of whether we could debate them, but rather whether they could (or even want to) debate us. If we tried it, we might want to lay down some ground rules first -- specifically, no hitting the abuse button just because you got offended or somebody disagreed with you.
Since you happened to pop in, let me ask you something that we've been talking about. Is cordial discussion between Mormons and other religious groups possible? Could there be a discussion where different beliefs are examined, without it turning into a mess with posts and/or threads pulled? What, from your perspective, has been the cause of all the commotion between certain LDS members and certain other posters, that has made this sort of discussion untenable?
(By the way, what do you prefer to be called, "Mormon", "LDS", or something else?)
Mat:125 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Any normal reading of this shows that they had sex after Jesus was born.
They are in bondage to the law which is even called a curse in the NT, to keep the whole thing. Christianity is at liberty from the Law since the law could not make those holy who were under it. Christians are children of the promise "their lawless deads I will remember no more".
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (Genesis 3:15, KJV)
It is messianic but seed has many different meanings as we are seeing father has many different meanings. Some here are questioning whether Joseph was Jesus's father when that's what Mary calls him. Father has many meanings and so does seed. Here seed simply means human. Otherwise, what is the serpents seed? I guarantee that no sperm from that serpent has become any demons.
Mat:125 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Any normal reading of this shows that they had sex after Jesus was born.
Then:
Mal:So you would hold that the following is not a messianic passage?

Ah, so. Maybe one day, the wonk will learn that "till" has many different meanings as well. We can only pray.

In other words He is not of Mary. She is not His mother genetically.
What a silly thing to say. What about this:
But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law (Galatians 4:4, RSV)
According to Scripture, Jesus is indeed born of woman. So there goes your theory, shot to hell.
SD
Sure we can. He was born of God; the Scriptures say repeatedly that He was made of a woman.
Ok, Bible scholars. Answer me these questions.
Define "born of" versus the idea of "made of." Please use the Bible as your promary source, as you know the dictionary lies.
In doing so, explain why and how the phrase "born of" is used to indicate genetic inferitance and not the process of expelling a child from one's womb.
Furthermore, assuming your bizarre premise, what does it mean for Jesus to be "made of a woman"?
