A controversial linen shroud - regarded by some to be the one Jesus was buried in - has baffled the world for more than centuries.
When it was first exhibited in the 1350s, the Shroud of Turin was touted as the actual burial shroud used to wrap the mutilated body of Christ after his crucifixion.
Also known as the Holy Shroud, it bears a faint image of the front and back of a bearded man, which many believers is Jesus' body miraculously imprinted onto the fabric.
But research in the 1980s appeared to debunk the idea it was real after dating it to the Middle Ages, hundreds of years after Christ's death.
Now, Italian researchers who used a new technique involving x-rays to date the material have confirmed it was manufactured around the time of Jesus about 2,000 years ago.
They say the fact the timelines add up lends credence to the idea that the faint, bloodstained pattern of a man with his arms folded in front were left behind by Jesus' dead body.
The Bible states that Joseph of Arimathea wrapped the body of Jesus in a linen shroud and placed it inside the tomb.
Matthew 27:59-60 reads: 'Then Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a new linen cloth. He put Jesus’ body in a new tomb that he had dug in a wall of rock. Then he closed the tomb by rolling a very large stone to cover the entrance. After he did this, he went away.'
The burial cloth has captivated the imagination of historians, church chiefs, skeptics and Catholics since it was first presented to the public in the 1350s.
French knight Geoffroi de Charny gave it to the dean of the church in Lirey, France, proclaiming it as the Holy Shroud.

They were supposed to take samples for the radiocarbon dating anywhere but where they did.
They chose a portion of the Shroud which had been repaired with newer cloth using a sewing tecnique called "French Invisible Reweaving" in which the proportion of original cloth to new fibers tapers off.
The three samples used for radiocarbon dating were all taken at different depths of the repaired swatch, so they each had a different proportion of new and old threads.
The giveaway was that the ages given for each of those three samples (each done at a different lab), were all outside each others' error bars, a dead giveaway for systematic experimental error; in this case, the samples were materially different.
No way that it can be proven that it belonged to Jesus...but the Church makes out good when they do exhibits.
Thanks, but no.
What hasn’t been corrupted by,an, government and money if you think about it?
Preach it!
As Abraham told the rich man in hell, they have the Law and the Prophets. And for those who won’t believe, even if someone raised from the dead, they wouldn’t believe.
Many met Jesus face to face and weren’t convinced.
A curious thing strikes me about the Bible, we that believe it is the word of God do so and never once question the fact that it is a translation by a gang of monks we don't even know or know were honest and trustworthy. How do we know they did it correctly? How do we know they didn't add to or take away from it?
This shroud makes it appear Jesus has long hair. When in fact he did not have long hair. Could be a copy from Satan. He can never get anything right.
Reminds me of Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd, and their Bombe.
“(excuse the image) rip out...”

Try...”traumatically evulsed”.
BTW:
On our FReeper pages, one can find a California Jewish professor convincing another Jewish professor to examine the shroud.
His erudite conclusions, which included finding the pollen of a plant which was known to exist in Israel at the time (now extirpated there) convinced me—and others, including the Jewish professor—himself!
We can trace every book of the NT to the 1st century AD. 1 Corinthians was written in 55 AD at the latest. There is a referey to the Pool of Bethesda in the Gospel of John which for many years was thought to never exist. It was discovered in the exact location as described in the Gospel, during an excavation of Jerusalem in the 20th century.
That 1980s study was disproved decades ago.
There is a good deal of recent Shroud research that goes into precisely that point. The reply at 59 undoubtedly draws upon that research.
On a related point by another poster:
Likely the head cloth was but on first, holding the coins over the eyes and other things in place, and then the shroud went over the whole body, including the head. There is a separate head cloth relic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudarium_of_Oviedo#:~:text=The%20Sudarium%20(Latin%20for%20sweat,700%20AD%20by%20radiocarbon%20dating.
(The WIki article is officially skeptical, but includes a counter-argument to its own argument)

Most historians have concluded that this so called shroud was aquired by Geoffroi de Charny as a relic of the Jacques DeMolay, in whichbi Demolay had been wrapped and secured in a mock death as after his torture by an inquisitor of the church.DeMolay was released and the shroud preserved by the Knights Templar , devolving into the hands of de Charney.
It is the likeness of Jacques DeMolay, not Jesus Christ.DeMolay was later martyred by the Roman Catholic Church, burned at the stake ,and the Knights Templar declared an heretical organization.
“....head was wrapped separately from His body.”

Wiki, like Kindergarten and Cliff notes, a good starting point.
After more than casual study, I believe the Shroud is genuine. After all those hundreds of hours of books, articles, studies, documentaries, etc across 50 years, I arrived where I started.....
“Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
John 20:29KJV
No, someone removed it and was sent to the coliseum 😂
Can’t remember who did the skit but there were a bunch of guys in a jail cell and they were talking what they were in for. Robbery , murder… then one says “you know the tags on the mattress, I remove it”. And they all moved to the other side of the cell we fear in their eyes
Laughed my ass off
Agree
Ping a ding dong.
Narcassist don’t respond.
Carbon dating is in fact not accurate as carbon decay is related to cycles of the sins radiation which fluctuats
