The Vatican’s doctrine office will publish a new document next week on discerning Marian apparitions and other supernatural events.

The Holy See Press Office announced on Tuesday that Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), will unveil new norms for discernment regarding “apparitions and other supernatural phenomena” on Friday, May 17.

In an interview with the National Catholic Register, CNA’s sister news partner, last month, Fernandez said that the document will provide “clear guidelines and norms” for discernment.

The new norms will be the first time that the Vatican’s doctrinal office has issued a general document on apparitions in four decades. Pope Paul VI approved norms on “the discernment of presumed apparitions or revelations” in 1978.

So I believe what God tells us in His word.

Why is that a problem for you?

A blog??? LOL!!!!Is this your blog?

Ebb, you and Philip are being laughed at by the enemy. You both have been deceived into trusting in the idolatrous scapular.

Paul gave us the best way to handle spiritual warfare (Eph 6). And not one mention of a scapular or miraculous medal.

You and anyone else trusting in the man-made idol called the scapular have been shown the Truth.

If you can't afford a scapular at this time, you can get temporary reprieve by consuming this blessed substance.

“MeganC—there are ample examples of “private” apparitions and revelation in the Bible, so to call them non-Biblical is an error that could be refuted in an interesting thread.”

I did not refute the documented examples of apparitions by the RCC. Much to the contrary I frequently refer to RCC documentation on many miracles. I also defer to RCC documentation on speaking in tongues because the RCC cites examples of people speaking known languages when too many schismatic/cultish denominations accept gibberish or baby talk as some sort of ‘Holy Language’.

This does not change the fact that the current leadership of the RCC refutes Scripture especially when it comes to homosexuality.

Hieronymus, I am a strong supporter of traditional Catholicism. John Paul II and Benedict XVI were good men. Jorge Bergoglio is not a good man.

But as an outsider I am also quite free to denounce the Catholic leadership as the destructive cabal of homosexual socialists that they are.

You know what’s really sad? As much as I may criticize the RCC I am still a stronger supporter of the RCC and my Catholic friends than most Catholics.

What did it for me was attending a Latin Mass and appreciating the beauty and inspiration of what a service of worship could be. I mourn for the Catholics who have never and will never experience such beauty.

I also denounce those who would deny that beauty to the faithful they are supposed to serve and not oppress.

I hope that clarifies where I stand here.

- Megan

There is not ONE shred of Scriptural support for wearing talismans for spiritual protection and getting God's favor.

Whatever someone adds to Jesus is what they are trusting to save them because they don't trust Jesus enough to do it for them. And nothing besides Jesus saves.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Luke 18:9-14 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Those Catholics who clearly take such pride in their Catholicism and adherence to their church and going to confession, eating Jesus, and saying the rosary, need to take note.

No, you were by far the most eloquent and staunch defender of the Holy Father on the thread. Of course, everyone besides you was Catholic, so what do you expect. It was a very low standard to attain—sort of like being the most sober person at a gathering of Kennedys, or the most principled Congressman.

I salute you, and commend you to wear your title with pride when you come before St. Peter.

So now “Saint Peter” judges us?

This RCC fairy tale keeps getting bigger and bigger!

Maybe female angels are in heaven too in their version of it?

-———————————————————!

Catholics have this Gospel called Matthew where Christ allegedly gives somebody some keys to some place. Maybe it was Calvin to Geneva, or Knox to St. Andrew’s or Luther to a convent (from which to take a wife).

Could you look it up for me in English? That could be different than the Greek, Latin and Hebrew. Or maybe it isn’t in your Bible.

Very much so-—

Your name rang a bell, but only vaguely. Now that I see a more extensive post I am wondering if I recall you correctly—raised in California, happily married at 18 outside of California, with a boatload of kids, possibly in Wyoming?

There are sane Bishops, and the remain a part of the leadership of the Church. The present Pope is a Jesuit, and one can never tell exactly what most Jesuits mean for sure: I would generally advise ignoring him, unless you happen to be a Bishop or he addresses you directly.

If you know Trad Catholics, I trust this is not the first time you have heard that advice.

“Those Catholics who clearly take such pride in their Catholicism and adherence to their church and going to confession, eating Jesus, and saying the rosary, need to take note.”

Don’t forget your brown or green scapular either! Wear it and blast evil away like a laser gun!
Also the “hail mary” prayer seems to be in demand for RC’s. Say it once, no twenty times.
Don’t forget to kiss the dead body parts too of your local dead monk/saint - for extra healing and grace.

The arrogance and narcissism of RC’s regarding what they “know” as best - better than The Sovereign Lord Jesus, is echoes of what the serpent said in the garden of Eden “Did God really say?”.

This is a warning, but most will ignore it to their peril.

Hebrews 4:16
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Jesus is on the throne - nobody else.

If Catholics believed and trusted in the Gospel of Matthew that would be one thing.

You dudes talk out of both sides of your mouth all time.

If we keep conversing here eventually your loose lips will slip and reveal that you really don’t believe in any Gospel.

It’s always PLUS SOMETHING with you guys.

What are the keys of the kingdom?

The biblical passage that makes reference to the “keys of the kingdom” is Matthew 16:19. Jesus had asked His disciples who people thought He was. After hearing several of the more popular opinions, Jesus aimed His question directly at His disciples. Peter, responding for the twelve, acknowledged Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God. After this great confession, Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:17–19).

Keys are used to lock or unlock doors. The specific doors Jesus has in mind in this passage are the doors to the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus is laying the foundation of His church (Ephesians 2:20). The disciples will be the leaders of this new institution, and Jesus is giving them the authority to, as it were, open the doors to heaven and invite the world to enter. At this point it is important to understand how, biblically speaking, one enters the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus said that, unless one is born again, he will not see the Kingdom of Heaven (John 3:3). One is born again as the Holy Spirit works through the Word of God to bring about new life in a dead sinner. The content of the message is the substitutionary death of Christ and His subsequent resurrection (Romans 10:9–10). So the faithful preaching of the gospel is the key to the kingdom.

In Matthew 16:19, Jesus is specifically addressing Peter, so it is significant that, in the book of Acts, Peter figures prominently in the “opening of doors” to three different groups of people so they can enter the Kingdom. In Acts 2, it is Peter who preaches in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost; about three thousand Jewish people are saved that day. Peter’s preaching had “unlocked the door” of heaven for the Jews. Later, in Acts 8, the Samaritans believe the gospel and receive the Holy Spirit; again, Peter (and John) was present for this event. Peter had “unlocked the door” for the Samaritans. Then, in Acts 10, Peter brings the gospel to a Roman centurion’s household, and they, too, receive the Holy Spirit. Peter had “unlocked the door” for the Gentiles. The “keys” that Jesus had given him worked in each case.

Of course, keys can be used to lock doors as well as open them. Part of the gospel message is that faith is necessary. Without faith in Christ, the door to heaven is shut and barred (see John 3:18). As the apostles preached the gospel, those who responded in faith and repentance were granted access to the Kingdom of Heaven; yet those who continued to harden their hearts and reject the gospel of God’s saving grace were shut out of the Kingdom (Acts 8:23).

The context of Matthew 16 also refers to a “binding and loosing.” To better understand this concept, we turn to Matthew 18:15–20, where Jesus gives the guidelines for church discipline, using the same “binding and loosing” language we find in Matthew 16. The apostles were not to usurp Christ’s authority over individual believers and their eternal destiny, but they were to exercise authority to discipline erring believers and, if necessary, excommunicate disobedient church members. Based on God’s Word, believers today can declare an unrepentant sinner to be unsaved (“bound”) and a repentant believer in Jesus Christ to be saved (“loosed”). The binding or loosing, based on one’s rejection or acceptance of the gospel, reflects heaven’s perspective on the matter. In heaven, Christ ratifies what is done in His name and in obedience to His Word on earth.

God’s will is that sinners be granted access to heaven through the righteousness of Christ. Consider Jesus’ warning to the Pharisees: “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in” (Matthew 23:13). If the gospel message is distorted or ignored, or if unrepentant sin is not adequately disciplined, the doors to the Kingdom of Heaven are being shut in people’s faces.

Born again believers are already positionally in heaven seated with Christ.

Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:6-10 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

Peter's not gatekeeper of anything. Jesus is the One who decides who gets into heaven.

Catholics give Peter, a mere man. far too much credit for power and abilities he does not have, just like they do with Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Being a respecter of persons is a sin, you know.

Three cheers to RWC for his second reply. It shows at least some grasp of an English version that can reasonably reflect the original Hebrew and an intelligent attempt to make sense of the text.

Metmom—does your version of Matthew have Calvin getting the Keys to Geneva? That would be compatible with your answer—RWC’s answer isn’t compatible with this interpretation. And I am glad to see that the Defender of Francis is doing nothing to tarnish the esteem which I hold him in.
