I would appreciate a complimentary visit to my website, if you are so inclined. After all, my work is done for free, because other than one small link to my wife's hairdresser's website, there are no overwhelming adds that will drive you crazy. I do what I do for the enjoyment I get, not for profit. Truth is, it is a losing venture, but I do enjoy it…….. TRFMF

When I was a kid in Texas, the stores were closed on Sunday. grocery stores were open, but only for food, no household things, etc. Those aisles were roped off.

The Sabbath is the only law of the 10 not repeated in the NT for Christians.

Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue.

As was the custom of His day. It was NOT as the Lord had commanded. The first instruction on the Sabbath in Exodus 16:29:

See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. One is to prepare for the Sabbath sufficiently to be able to shelter in place. It would of course be bad news for the priestly class.

In Re: Case in point is chapters 11 and 12 of Matthew’s Gospel. I personally believe that he made a mistake by ending Matthew chapter 11 at verse 30. It’s my belief that chapter 11 should have had 8 more verses for a total of 38. Thus it would end after the following statement by Jesus, .....”“For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
(Matthew 12:8)

That is not a statement that changes the fourth commandment. Read appropriately in the context of the verses before Matthew 12:8, even if restored as verses in Matthew 11. No, it is a statement about conduct on the Sabbath, not about honoring or not honoring the true Sabbath, which is the 7th day of the week, same as the 7th day of Creation.

In re: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
(Matthew 11:28-30) ....”By speaking about the concept of rest, the audience He is speaking to would automatically think of the Sabbath rest which God gave them.”

Yes and no but not generally for the promise in Matthew 11:28-30 is universal and not time or day dependent.

“This is important, because when Jesus died on the cross, He fulfilled all the requirements of the Law, including the one that calls for us to obey the Sabbath, since as He stated, He is our Sabbath.”

1. If so what other of the Ten Commandments are now irrelevant.

2. Yes, Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath, NOT “the Sabbath”, and he, in the beginning, at creation, was the Sabbath, the Sevebth day, made his, which is why we are to observe it.

“After 1480 years, the Jews showed they could not follow the Law, and with Christ fulfilling it and the ceremonial ones, we are free from it”

We are not free from the Ten Commandments, any of them.

In Re: “Just as we are not bound by going through a High Priest by offering a sacrifice, we too do not need to follow the Jewish Law. We can reach God through Christ, on any day at anytime we so desire.”

Irrelevant as to what day is the Sabbath.

Resting one day in seven is a good idea, but the legalists will soon be along to make salvation dependent on Sabbath keeping.

“Let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths
(Colossians 2:16)”

Notice it does not say “the Sabbaths” and it is not referring to THE Sabbath. It is referring to the many different special Sabbth days the Jews had. Each one was on the Sabbath but at a special time on the calendar.

“Paul also wrote that, if you observe any part of the Old Law, then you must follow it all.”

Does anyone truly think Paul is there referring to any part of the Ten Commandments? Don’t believe it. Paul would have in no way dismissed the any of the Ten Commandments. When Paul is speaking of “the Law” he is referring to the dirth of Jewish laws that spelled out living as a Jew, in particular. Evem the Samaritans honored and believed in the Ten Commandments, which preceded all the adendums the rabbis piled on.

“Nor are you bound by the Jewish Sabbath”

It is not the “Jewish Sabbath”, it is God’s Sabbath and God made it, His seventh day of rest, long before Abraham or Moses.

To be honest this is revisionism by those who want to choose the way of tradition over the way of scripture. Scripture nad HISTORY is clear. The Sabbath is the 7th day according to the bible. No amount of justification can do away with the fact that many early Christians CHOSE to disregard the sabbath of the bible in order to NOT look like they were Jews and thus avoid persecution by Rome. Sunday Christianity is built upon those who wanted to save their own skins and fit into the culture and society of the time. It’s the SAME way today. People and preachers violate the 4th commandment because they don’t want to be out of step with their friends and relatives. Preachers embrace lies because if they reject Sunday they lose their jobs.

And another thing: The novel theory you're proposing completely changes the words and intent of our Lord and Jesus in the book of Matthew:

Mat 12:1  At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.  Mat 12:2  And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"  Mat 12:3  But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:  Mat 12:4  how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?  Mat 12:5  Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?  Mat 12:6  Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple.  Mat 12:7  But if you had known what this means, 'I DESIRE MERCY AND NOT SACRIFICE,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.  Mat 12:8  For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." The intent of Jesus was to show that the Pharisee's had invented their own laws about the Sabbath. Jesus said he's the LORD that created the Sabbath and he's the one that knows how to observe it. It's much like today...people reject the clear words of the bible and the 4th commandment in order to make their own laws and rules about the Sabbath...essentially calling Jesus a liar and removing him as CREATOR of the Sabbath. It's disgusting.

The New Testament manuscripts were letters originally written to be dispersed amongst the believers to read.

The literacy rate in the early Empire was something like 10%. The Hoi polloi weren't reading anything.
