73% Of US Christians Say The Bible Doesn’t Influence Their Views On Israel: Poll

Only about a quarter of American Christians say the Bible influences their views on Israel as the Israel-Hamas war continues after the Oct. 7 attack on civilians in southern Israel killed over 1,200 and prompted an Israeli military offensive in Gaza.

Lifeway Research, in collaboration with The Philos Project, conducted a survey asking 1,252 American Christians for their views on the Israel-Hamas war. The poll, conducted between Nov. 14 and 21 and released Dec. 14, has a margin of error of +/-2.9 percentage points.

Respondents were asked about what has “influenced” their views about Israel and were given a list of responses that they could select all that apply. About 27% of Christians selected the Bible, suggesting that among 73% of respondents, the Bible does not inform their views of Israel.

The Bible was the second most commonly cited answer, coming in behind the media at 56%.

Other sources of opinions on Israel cited by American Christians include friends and family (26%), personal experiences with Jews (13%), positions of elected officials (13%), their local church (12%), national Christian leaders (10%), teachers or professors (6%) and personal experiences with Palestinians (5%).

Then I’d say they’re not reading their Bibles. God is, shall we say, very big on Israel.

I suppose you have read the Bible more than Martin luther, Charles wesley, calvin, CS Lewis, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Karl Barth and Huldrych Zwingli.

Jesus was very big in the Bible on saying that Israel was to be utterly destroyed, which it was in the siege of jerusalem. It is now a secular pro LGBT country and some Christians think giving financial aid to a secular pro lgbt, pro abortion country supersedes the teachings of Jesus christ. Not once did Jesus mention this.

I’d venture to guess that figure is flawed by half as those saying their position is based on The Bible are lying. There is not that kind of adherence to The Bible in churches.

I would have to say it does not influence mine in this case.

I just support the civilized over the barbarian every time.

And that does not mean I expect the civilized to be perfect either. Life is an imperfect thing. But I can not take the side of people who deliberately bake babies.

Yes, this. The promises made by Yahweh/God to Israel were completely fulfilled in the coming of Jesus, his death, and resurrection. Mosaic Judaism itself was culminated in the finished work of Christ on the cross. Any Jew today who seeks "Torah righteousness" can indeed achieve it, but only by embracing Christ as his or her savior.

Beyond this, the modern nation state of Israel is of no eschatological significance, the silly ravings of the Darbyites notwithstanding.

Israel has been a mostly apostate state its entire existence. HOWEVER, God promised that all who bless Israel will be blessed and all who curse Israel will be cursed. Gen 12:3
I pray our nation’s actions don’t ignore this promise.

Ah, we’re going to have a disagreement. I won’t go further into my reasons for believing what I do, since you seem to be ready to argue rather than reason.

Misleading excerpts. Context is king. In the actual survey, the overall context for the stats at subject is much that of opinions of current events which come from news.

Thus asking

“Which of the following have influenced your opinions about Israel?”

has the media as the top source, at 56%, versus the Bible at 27%. If I asked a women, what influenced your choices of clothes recently, the weather may come out over the Bible, though the later is most broadly definitive.

There’s a difference between Jerusalem and the Jewish people.

Yes, the temple was utterly destroyed, but the Jews were scattered and now have begun to return to their homeland as prophesied in Scripture.

The end of Jerusalem does not, nor did not mean, by default, the end of the nation of Israel nor the Jewish people.

I could suppose you not have read the Bible more than some select verses. For Scripture makes it very substantially manifest that there is a future for Jews. Romans 11 (see ISRAEL: CHOSEN OR FORGOTTEN?) and relevant texts makes it clear that the natural branches, while lost, are "beloved for the Father's sake," and we are to look forward to the day when the fulness of the Gentiles shall have entered into the kingdom of God, and the curse of overall judicial blindness on Jews will be removed, and all (the remnant that remains) will look upon the Lord whom they have pierced (Zechariah 12:10) be saved, and be part of the 1,000 reign of Christ. Regardless of the rejection of this by Catholicism and Preterists.

Then 73% of U.S. “Christians” are on very dangerous ground with the Father.

Genesis 12:1-3 NASBS
Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; [2] And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; [3] And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

The excerpt is misleading, not only does it fail to differentiate btwn evangelicals (the most pro-Israel group) and those who do not hold to the supreme authority of Scripture, without liberal revisionism (modern RCs and mainline denominations) but views about Israel is most directly in the context of current events and news. We are to look to Scripture on the rights of Israel while the media informs us of the behavior of Israel.

Right...
Israel right now is in unbelief.

That doesn’t mean God is through with them.

Genesis 12:3 and the entire books of Zechariah and Daniel talk about a redeemed Israel coming back to God and accepting the One they pierced.

Martin Luther was a nasty antisemite in the end too - bad example!

The Word Of God says I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee, and in theeshall all families of the earth be blessed. (Gen. 12-3). That is an unconditional statement without timeline. Instead of following man I’ll stick with the Word.

Without the Word, Israel would mean as much to me as Indonesia does.

It’s only the Word that makes it different.

I think they interviewed mostly Laodiceans in the church that follow Andy (Lets get rid of the old testament) Stanley. What is happening now will cause Israels border to be increased and all Jews to head back to the promised land. That means that the U.S. will not be to hospitable to the Jewish people in the near future.

And to make sure of the meaning, there’s Genesis 48:

3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession...
