FATHER GOD,

Thank You for the GOOD NEWS of JESUS CHRIST, which angels told the shepherds the night of JESUS’ birth.

That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the LORD appeared among them, and the radiance of the LORD’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you GOOD NEWS that will bring great joy to all people. The SAVIOR—yes, the MESSIAH, the LORD—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! (Luke 2:8-11)

When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the LORD has told us about.” They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the Baby, lying in the manger. After seeing Him, the shepherds told everyone the GOOD NEWS what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this Child.

JESUS began His ministry in His hometown Synagogue when He read, “The SPIRIT of the LORD is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring GOOD NEWS to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.

He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at Him intently. Then He began to speak to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!” (Luke 4:19-21)

JESUS spread GOOD NEWS wherever He went. “The kingdom of GOD has come near. Repent and believe the GOOD NEWS!” (Mark 1:15).

After JESUS won the Victory with His death and resurrection, JESUS summoned His disciples to meet Him on a mountain where He commissioned them to spread the GOOD NEWS.

“I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the FATHER and the SON and the HOLY SPIRIT. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:16-20)

The GOOD NEWS is the greatest love story ever told (John 15:13). It is the promise of eternal life in CHRIST JESUS.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16–17)

LORD, give us opportunities this Christmas season and every season to spread the GOOD NEWS – not just the story of JESUS’ birth, but His death and resurrection. The Christmas story ends with the cross and the empty tomb.

Thank You, FATHER GOD! You give us victory over sin and death through our LORD JESUS CHRIST. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

A Prayer Of Thanks At Christmas

Father, we thank You from our innermost being that You sent Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to be born into a fallen race so that by His perfect life and sacrificial death He might be lifted up on the wooden cross, in the same way that Moses lifted up the bronze serpent in the wilderness, so that all who looked would live.

Thank You, Father, for the wonderful plan of salvation that You in Your grace purposed would be the only way that mankind could be saved from His sin, and so You sent Your one and only begotten Son, to be born of a virgin into the human race, God becoming Man, so that man might be eternally clothed in the righteous garments of God.

Thank You that by His human life and physical death, He was able to reconcile us back to God, forgive us of our sins and break the power of death in the lives of all Who believe on His name.

Thank You that from His unpretentious beginning, where he had nowhere to lay His head, to His lifelong submission of the Father, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Thank You, Father, for the birth of My Redeemer and I rejoice in the God of my Saviour. In Jesus’ name,
