Why Muslims hate dogs so much?

On Aug. 25, 2023, a video appeared of Muslim girls covered from head to toe in all black burqas, dancing to a song that praised Islam and cursed "infidels" — that is, all non-Muslims. The video — which would make ISIS proud and chill Western audiences — was taken on a woman's college campus in India, Talimuddin Niswan Women's Degree College in Mau.

Swati Goel Sharma, the journalist who shared the video, wrote:

A glimpse into the brainwashing and radicalisation that goes on in religious minority institutes [meaning Muslim schools in India].  Women covered from head to toe in burqa are glorifying the regressive all-body wrapping as the very foundation of their religious beliefs, while cursing non-believers as hijdas [eunuchs] and kutta [dogs] and declaring them as enemies.

Indoctrinating Muslim students to hate and despise non-Muslims is nothing new and par for the course all throughout the Muslim world.

Of interest here is the disparaging reference to dogs, not least as it underscores the vast cultural differences between the West and Islam.  Put differently, whereas dogs are seen as "man's best friend" in the West — indeed, not a few so-called "progressives" are even trying to transform themselves into dogs — for many Muslims, dogs are vermin.  Indeed, as discussed in this article from less than a year ago, dogs are regularly targeted for cruel treatment and extermination in the Muslim world.

Where does this hate come from?  As usual, the prophet of Islam: Muhammad.  According to Abdullah bin Omar, as recorded in the canonical (or sahih) hadith collection of Al-Muslim, "The Messenger of Allah used to order the killing of dogs, so we used to send [men] to Medina and its adjoining vicinity, and we spared no dog but rather killed it."  (Translation of Arabic text.)

I saw a movie called “Dog” about a veteran from the Gulf War with a brain injury trying to get back to active duty, and a his commanding officer made a deal with him that if he took his buddy’s PTSD German Shepherd to an installation to be put down, he would consider it.

So the guy had to travel from Washington State down to Californa or New Mexico with this completely unhinged dog, and he decides to get a really nice room in a really nice hotel by pretending he is blind from a war injury and says the dog is his seeing eye dog.

Of course, the pretty girl at the registration desk falls for it, and she gives him, as a veteran, the penthouse room, free!

But, when he takes the dog out, as they walk through the lobby, the dog spots a muslim guy wearing a disdasha and the headgear, and goes ballistic and attacks him! (and the “blind” guy gets busted and arrested as he chases the dog down through the crowded lobby.

I really liked the movie...:)

I think you named the reason right there. Muhammad raided trading caravans. He liked to hit them at night when they were sleeping. He hated the guard dogs. They interfered with his thieving, raping, killing of the men and slave trading of the women and children.

Actually I don't blame Mohammed.

In third world countries there are a lot of ugly mangy street dogs. They are often vicious and eat garbage and steal your food and kill your cats and bite your children. Often they travel in packs and attack in packs killing your sheep and goats you rely on to eat.

And some of them spread rabies. Shooting stray dogs is the cheapest way to control rabies.

Here in the Philippines small kids trying to pet feral dogs often get bitten and require a series of rabies shots. And some die...about 300 people a year. And a terrible way to die.

I don’t generally, as a rule watch movies about dogs, given what usually happens to them in the end, but I was glad I made an exception for that one...:)

East Asians all over eat dogs. In Việt Nam it has generally fallen out of favor because the Vietnamese, especially the southerners are eager to please Americans. Thịt chó (dog meat) is still available in small specialty eateries frequented mostly by old men. In Southeast Asia and Korea there was no cultural reason for dogs. They are not useful for the hunt because of the terrain and would be useful in the villages for a bit of protection except that water buffalos do it better. A dog or a pack of them is no match for a tiger. Water buffalos can and do kill tigers. Water buffalos also do work in the fields and eat grass whereas dogs eat human food which is not plentiful at certain times of the year in the villages. Prosperous folks are beginning to keep dogs as house pets now.
