In a recent survey of born-again Christians, less than half claimed to believe that Jesus lived a sinless life while on Earth, or that human life is sacred.

The American Worldview Inventory (AWVI) 2023— a national representative survey of 2,000 adults, including 650 born-again Christians, was conducted in January by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University.

Such an important question of the day? yet ONLY 2,000 folks questioned on the matter!!??

The Long Island, NY megachurch I attended had 3 services, of 2,000 each, in the 1980’s.

I fear that the few pennies scraoed togethrer to pay this firm for this information was squandered!

Then they are NOT Christians!

2 Corinthians 5:21

21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

I believe you are correct. If they don’t believe what He says about himself, they aren’t his followers. I wonder if this is the great falling away?

Understanding as taught, he was born with original sin but he committed no sin. So I’m a little bit confused by the question, so when they say sinless does that mean he committed no sin or that he did it even have Original Sin?

Not surprised. How many of them believe Jesus is God?

Kinda strange to claim God sins. Something about contradictions and logic, but who cares about logic?

It’s not about Christians being perfect. What it is about is a fundamental tenet of the Christian religion. And if the doctrine of Christ’s sinless nature is denied then by definition you’re not Christian.

He did not have original sin, as was also the case with Mary. Unfortunately I cannot remember the sequence of events sufficiently to explain it but it was necessary for Mary to also not have original sin, as the woman who carried Christ in her womb.

Original sin came.from our father Adam, not mother Eve. Eve was tricked, Adam made a conscious choice. Because Jesus’s father was not Adam but the Lord, he was not born with original sin. He was the Son of God, but also the second Adam

Interesting, I was taught that Jesus was the perfect sacrifice to atone for Original Sin, that he had Original Sin but when he was crucified and then he was resurrected he was freed of original sin. So he was truly sinless after the resurrection but prior to the resurrection he had Original Sin.

“Less than half of professing ‘born-again Christians’”

Given that some people of that number (somewhere between 1 up to less than half of the group) profess to be Christian.

Given that they are not perfect.

Then at least some of those people

- may not understand the question
- may mis-state their opinion
- may not exactly meet the criteria of others.

Their understanding may be different, but they want very much to be on the path - though they may imperfectly be stumbling along.

They may be called to Jesus, and head toward Jesus for a long time before learning and understanding more.

Their hope - despite their imperfections and misunderstanding - literally keeps some of them alive.

Thanks. Actual survey of Dr. George Barna, Director of Research is here, which direct link I do not find on your blog much less your inexcusable 58 word lead.

One of the more significant religious groups in America is born-again Christians, who constitute about one-third of all U.S. adults. ...
Decreases in biblical beliefs included a 14-point drop in the number contending the Bible is unambiguous in its teaching about abortion and a 14-point decline in those who believe that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life during His time on Earth. The other double-digit decline was a 12-point downturn in people saying human life is sacred.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)

However, Barna seems to have forsaken differentiating btwn "born again" believers which are those who saying that they believe they will go to Heaven after they die on Earth only because they have confessed their sins and accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, and 23% of Catholics qualified as born again according The Barna Group’s definition in, 2005, versus evangelicals which are decreasing, but in 2013 he he said,

“Evangelicals” meet the born again criteria described above plus seven other conditions. Those include saying their faith is very important in their life today; believing they have a personal responsibility to share their religious beliefs about Christ with non-Christians; believing that Satan exists; believing that eternal salvation is possible only through grace, not works; believing that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth; asserting that the Bible is accurate in all the principles it teaches; and describing God as the all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect deity who created the universe and still rules it today. Being classified as an evangelical is not dependent upon church attendance, the denominational affiliation of the church attended, or self-identification. Respondents were not asked to describe themselves as “evangelical.”

Barna also seems to have forsaken reporting on the views of Catholics, while in 2007 he reported,

The spiritual beliefs of Catholics are also substantially different from the typical views of Americans. Catholics differed from most people on seven of the 11 belief-focused questions raised. For instance, Catholics were significantly less likely to believe that the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles it teaches and only half as likely to maintain that they have a responsibility to share their faith with others. They were more likely than the norm to say that Satan is not real; to believe that eternal salvation is earned; and to contend that Jesus Christ sinned while on earth.
Emphasis mine.

Born agains are rather fakey types. This survey doesn’t surprise me.

Christians are not perfect.

No, which is why Christ WAS and IS perfect. If Christians were sinless then why would we have ever needed Christ?
