Vatican City, Jul 1, 2022 / 10:26 am In an interview published Friday, Pope Francis said that he believes it is time to rethink the concept of “just war.”
“I believe it is time to rethink the concept of a ‘just war.’ A war may be just, there is the right to defend oneself. But we need to rethink the way that the concept is used nowadays,” Pope Francis said.
“I have said that the use and possession of nuclear weapons are immoral. Resolving conflicts through war is saying no to verbal reasoning, to being constructive. … War is essentially a lack of dialogue.”
The pope spoke in an interview that was conducted on June 20 by Télam, Argentina’s national news agency. A 1-hour video of the interview was published on July 1.
In response to a question about how the lack of dialogue is an aggravating factor in the current state of world affairs, the pope said that there is “an entire infrastructure of arms sales” that supports war today.
“A person who knew about statistics told me, I don't remember the numbers well, that if weapons were not manufactured for a year, there would be no hunger in the world,” he said.
Pope Francis described how he cried during visits to war cemeteries in Europe, including the Redipuglia World War I memorial and Anzio World War II cemetery in Italy.
“And when the anniversary of the landing in Normandy was commemorated, I thought of the 30,000 boys who were left dead on the beach. They opened the boats and said, ‘get off, get off,’ they were ordered while the Nazis waited for them. Is that justified? Visiting military cemeteries in Europe helps one realize this,” he said

Is this pope on tiktok? If not, he should be. Would be a great platform for his deep thinking.
Instead I think we should rethink the concept of Papal infallibility.

This babble, is his understanding, of the historical significance of the Normandy invasion? Really? is this guy full of (%^$^^%), is he demented, is he ($&#&&$*)??
So what is he saying? That we should not have launched the Normandy invasion, because there were certain to be casualties in the invasion? What about his “just war” theory? Is he saying World War II was an unjust war, and that fighting back was an unjust action on the part of the Allies? What in the sam hill is this (%&^&&*&) talking about?
I think it’s time to rethink the goofy Popey idea.
Yes, we have a new Rock Star!

Says a guy who lives behind walls and has guards.
Yes let’s are go hippy dippy, smoke dope and sing kumbya.
his predecessors thought it a just war to fight the Moslems in Jerusalem ...
If there were no guns we would all live in a land of gumdrop trees and chocolate rivers.
BS.
This is a retards view of life whose never had to actually work to obtain his own bread.
“...War is essentially a lack of dialogue...”
If only the Jews would have had more dialogue with Hitler and Himmler, the Holocaust would never have happened.
This Pope is truly an idiot. He is not naïve, he is a full blown idiot.
Pope Francis, serves at all our peril.
Clearly, the brilliant content and teachings from Pope Leo XIII encyclical — Rerum Novarum, did not take hold: https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_l-xiii_enc_15051891_rerum-novarum.html
No but would the Holy Spirit have allowed Paul to use it if war were always evil?
Would the words of the returning Christ be compared to a sharp two-edged executioners sword if that was evil?
The Bible is not a book of peace. The peace of God is only achieved through conflict and war against evil
No, its not. And once agaon, the pope proves he is not Catholic.
Was he not all in for this Ukraine/Russia conflict? Perhaps seeing the error of his ways on that issue, and he is replete with errors as the head of the Catholic Church. In fact, I doubt very seriously that he is a true believer of the church at all.
Actually it is time to rethink the Catholic Church without Francis. Call it rooting out evil
No Peace. Just War.
Huh?
Well no $&@? Your holiness. War is the lack of dialog or is it another from of dialog when those that only respect physical power “come to Jesus (or insert other religious figure here)” when their ass is kicked. I always pray that the a can of whoopass is not needed for differences in position and reasonable terms can be reached. However, the latest pope is a (insert pejorative here) to assume that the church will get along with every body. I know he really, really wants a more perfect world that believers, nonbelievers, and apostates can all get along but the real world just smacks him with a shovel in the head with his hands in front of his face.
Now that’s a deep cut.
Is that justified? Damn right it's justified. Most of the World War II men are dead of old age now... but if those who died on the beaches hadn't bothered, we'd be speaking German today and living in fear for our lives. Sometimes you stand up to evil...and it's 'justified'...
