Just a query to those more knowledgeable and savvy, about church denominations.
Actually, I mean ANY division of organized Christian religion.
I am frustrated by so many churches now, with all the nonsense of the last 2 years. Paying homage to BLM and homos and bowing down to every COVID decree.
Everyone says what was our church, Lutheran Church - MO Synod (LCMS), is good for being true. However, after the riots started I saw a bit too much virtue-signaling. The only thing I can say was the website did not seem to specify blacks and BLM, but the statement seemed to be self-concsious again about looking like social justice proponents.
So, I’m thinking of looking for other churches, which might happen to be reasonably close to us.
Deuteronomy Chapter 5:5-22 | Exodus Chapter 20:1-18 |
5 (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying, 6 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.13 Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.17 Thou shalt not kill.18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.19 Neither shalt thou steal.20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's.22 These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me. | 1 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.13 Thou shalt not kill.14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.15 Thou shalt not steal.16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. |
How much ‘wrongness’ will you tolerate?
No.
She’s too controling.
There ya go!
Puff up that umbrage!
BTW, we are NOT worshipping; but merely hyperduliaing!
Not to worry; as they probably care more about your doctrine and practice than your property.
Would this god's name be Jesus? or Emmanuel?
Sounds like a club that had Groucho Marx as a member.
OK then.
Acts 15: the letter - what about it?
Just wait. A Catholic Freeper will along shortly and tell us not EVERYTHING is recorded in the Bible and well, by golly, it COULD happen!
otherwise what would you call this?
And here who they call this 'worshipping their Buddha"
Actually, no.
Again, the Buddhists don’t think the STATUE is a god - they are worshipping Buddha, and the statue gives them a focal point for someone they cannot see anymore - Buddha is dead (or ascended, or whatever they think).
In the case of Catholics (and others!), oftentimes the statue is specifically a location of where the Virgin appeared. So the fact she may have appeared there gives extra reason for them to concentrate on prayer there.
But in all cases it’s an idol of what they believe in...a representation. And most assuredly they call out Mary in prayer while before a statue made of wood, plaster or whatever.
So that said then you would say the pagans who knelt before their statues weren’t worshiping those either....or couldn’t be idolatry if they were praying to their unseen Gods????
Don’t know what Buddhist sayings are, but generally we know they use them as representation.
I hope you all are good Amish and don’t even have photos of your relatives. Honestly. You have to be pretty strict to follow this idea. I don’t think God is that obsessive that we cannot be artistic. I think it’s about Com. 1.
Actually I don’t use any relics or religious items other than using my Bible and various other written resources.
Never saw a need for these though some might think they do. And no I’m not even close to being Amish.
Doug
Thank you. Very clear.
Problem is that the Roman Catholic church removed the second commandment. (No graven images, no idols). (Lutheran Church, too)
Have now brought this fact to other person’s attention.
Pointing out that the statues in the RC churches are against the second commandment, which has been removed by the RC and Lutheran churches, is uncomfortable. Internal conflict makes anger.
So, attack the messenger.
Point is if you go by that uncontextualized reading of an oft-translated text, you cannot even have any photos of anyone.
I guess you have no cross, either?
Seriously, I’m just posing the logical questions if as you 2 think, there cannot be any sort of images.
Now some questions for you? Have you read the Bible? Do you consider yourself a born again Christian? Are you Catholic? Why do you have some sort of remark about almost half of the posts here on FR? What are you trying to prove?
It’s no the images...it’s the bowing and kneeling.
Of course I have family photos but I sure as heck don’t kneel before them nor bow down to them... And you’re correct I don’t wear crosses either because He’s no longer on the cross. ....’He lives in me’ by His very Spirit He gave me and that’s better than any jewelry, relic, statue or painting others might need to focus. ....and yes I walk by faith not sight.
