Thank you. Very clear.
Problem is that the Roman Catholic church removed the second commandment. (No graven images, no idols). (Lutheran Church, too)
Have now brought this fact to other person’s attention.
Pointing out that the statues in the RC churches are against the second commandment, which has been removed by the RC and Lutheran churches, is uncomfortable. Internal conflict makes anger.
So, attack the messenger.
I’ll add a comment or two.
Comments about the Ten Commandments are moot. Because...
The OT Law was nailed to the cross. Anything nailed to a cross dies.
BUT, Jesus fulfilled the old Law. Some examples...
Written in stone ... Written on our hearts.
Don’t do the act ... Careful about your thoughts
No other Gods ... No other name whereby we must be saved.
No adultery ... Don’t lust after a woman
Don’t lie ... Let your nay be nay, your aye be aye
You have heard it said ... but I say unto you.
Keep the Sabbath ... Go to church Hebrews 10:25ff
Do not murder ... He that hateth his brother is a murderer
...Turn the other cheek
...Go the extra mile
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Somehow or other, after Israel returned from Babylonian captivity, idol worship was not a problem. Not mentioned in the NT.
