To HKMk23:
Thank you for reply below on a different thread. Desired to repost these words here. God bless you. May we all do as this suggests, and speak Truth to kings and rulers in the Name of Jesus:
“May The Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, grace us with the wisdom to resist well; to be wise as serpents, yet innocent as doves; to stand in the Name of Jesus before kings and rulers, and speak Truth under the leading of the Holy Spirit of The Living God.”
In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Yes. You’re welcome.
And let us be clear about “in the Name of Jesus.” This is not a magical coda we tack onto the end of things to invoke his name as though those particular syllables have some inherent power. His Name bears authority like a signet ring, because HE has all power and the authority. So, when we pray “in Jesus’ Name,” we make the claim that we are praying as His proxy; as though we are HIM, and we are declaring that we know the mind of Christ, and that we are praying his will and his words by the Holy Spirit. So to pray “in the Name of Jesus” is to pray as though Christ is praying through us by the Spirit, and THAT is what invokes His power and authority in the circumstance that is the focus of our prayer.
So, it would behoove us to actually KNOW that our prayer aligns with the mind of Christ, and his will, BEFORE we deign to declare that we are praying “in the Name of Jesus.”
I have all my life heard Christians toss around “in The Name of Jesus,” and it just makes me cringe; it’s very nearly taking his Name in vain, to be honest, because it’s become nearly meaningless how folks use the words. People say and pray things and toss out “in the Name of Jesus” at the end as a sort of habitual reflex; far and away too often there’s no Holy Spirit connection there. I just don’t observe that most Christians are aware what they are declaring when they use the phrase, “in the Name of Jesus.”
Fast fading are the days when we can go on indulging this sort of spiritual carelessness. A won’t excoriate anyone, but I will shepherd them to a more magnificent regard for the excellency of Jesus’ Name.
Amen, Norski
