HOLLAND — Keith Mannes has given his life to the Christian Reformed Church, serving as a pastor for more than 30 years. He’s done so happily and thankfully.

But on Oct. 11, Mannes gave his last sermon and walked away from ministry among increasing political tension and divisiveness.

Put simply, he stepped away due to the church’s broad support of President Donald Trump.

When I first found the church I now am in, its was before the 2016 election. Minister was nice as can be. After Trump got elected, TDS hit her bad. Every sermon was like listening to MSNBC. Thank you God she retired.

If he is not in accord with his church, it is better he leaves. But there is something wrong in a church that hasn’t discerned the difference sooner and asked him to leave or attempted to come to an understand of why he differs from the members he is teaching.

He can go join the “church of what’s happening now,” which isn’t really a church where you can cook up your own doctrine. You have to subscribe to the leftist narrative, or you are out.

As soon as I see the word “reformed” in a title of a church or ministry name, I assume it’s unbiblical.

He doubtless has enough expropriated funds socked away to live a comfortable non church lifestyle.

Wow. Reading that article, here is an excerpt:

"...George Lundskow, a sociology professor at Grand Valley State University who studies the sociology of religion, said support from the religious community is tied to how people view God.

Lundskow said that while some of the president’s actions may not align with Christian values, he has aligned himself with conservative Christians by acting similar to how they see God — judgmental and punitive.

"(His actions) don’t seem very Christian, much less conservative Christian," Lundskow said. "I don’t think it’s about that. It’s something else about religion — whether you see God as punitive and judgmental or the loving, forgiving version of God. That definitely shapes political views as well."

Lundskow said this divide between conservative and progressive Christians based on their view of God is a point of division within the faith in terms of political support.

The professor explained that those who see God as punitive tend to support Trump, saying they see him as strong-willed for the way he attacks opponents and "punishes" people for being poor. Lundskow added that Christians who view God as loving and forgiving tend to be more liberal and progressive, welcoming immigrants and "seeking social justice" for the poor...

"Progressive Christians". Who are they? The ones that don't see a problem with abortion? The ones that backed Bill Clinton?

He studies the "sociology of religion"? I took a sociology course one time in college...it was communist/Marxist claptrap. The Jackassery is strong with this author.

George Lundskow is half right...

Us conservative Christians are “ judgmental and punitive” towards those pedophiles, abortionists, and baby body part salesmen, but we are loving and forgiving to children and victims of these monsters.

But the progressive Christians are judgmental and punitive to children allowing for their executions, yet loving and forgiving Of the ones killing and raping kids...
