The worlds leading psychiatric authority on demonic possession delves into the hidden world of exorcisms and his own transformation from cynic to believer over the course of his twenty-five-year career.
Successful New York psychiatrist Richard Gallagher was skeptical yet intrigued when a hard-nosed, no-nonsense Catholic priest asked him to examine a woman for a possible exorcism. Meeting her, Gallagher was astonished. The womans behavior defied logic. In an instant, she could pinpoint a persons secret weaknesses. She knew how individuals shed never known had died, including Gallaghers own mother, who passed away after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. She spoke fluently in multiple languages, including Latinbut only when she was in a trance.
This was not psychosis, Gallagher concluded. It was, in his scientific estimation, what could only be describe as paranormal ability. The woman wasnt mentally disturbedshe was possessed. This remarkable case was the first of many that Gallagher would encounter

If tired & retired is not aware of this, it is learning time for him. I'm a few days from my 84th birthday, a Methodist Preacher's Kid who was not born again until the age of 34 after wrecking my marriage and my life. God picked me off the scrap heap fifty years ago, and I've been learning more about Him and His Beloved Son every day since, and been chastened by Him to get my attention many times.
Keep the faith, my FRiend.
See my post 161 where in I said to Mass55th that the other folks were for info only. I should have included “Dp’s” name in the body of my post to clarify that it was to only his post.

Yep. A new-born babe-in-Christ matures through various stages of spiritual life: through infancy, to childhood, to youth, then spiritual adulthood when one has finally overcome the Wicked One (1 Jn. 2:13,14). This is called "progressive sanctification" and takes many years, It is not something that happens instantly.
At the new birth God frees one from the penalty of sin and is given the power to overcome sinful habits, which he/she could not in one's natural state.
Know exactly where you say, up the hill south of downtown? It’s been a while since I’ve gone up to Allegany County (short on discretionary income), but the next time I do, I will be privileged to stop by and hear what you have to say, if you will permit it, Old Pennsyltuckian.
I agree, totally.
If he were really convinced that demon possession is real, he would no longer be a psychiatrist. The world views of the spiritual and mental health are diametrically opposed.
Yes you are so right.
There are Christian psychiatrists in practice. They might be in a minority, but they do exist.
Then they are either fake Christians, or are seriously deceived. The things you MUST believe to be a psychiatrist/psychologist are antithetical to Christianity and the things of God.
Ha! Good one.
It is a very simple and easy to understand passage that every born again Christian understands intimately.
Re my previous posts on this thread:
I never said Christian believers are possessed by demons/devils/evil spirits. Nowhere in the Bible is the term “possessed BY devils used.
One reason believers (and others) use this argument is that the KJV uses the term “possessed WITH devils/unclean spirits”. Which in old English, was the term to indicate that the person HAD devils/demons/unclean spirits.
Not that they were possessed by them.
The term “possessed with” occurs 11 times in the Bible, here:
Mt 4:24, 8:16, 8:28, 9:32, 12:22, Mark 1:32, 5:15,5:16, 5:18, Acts 8:7, 16:16.
“The clearest, non-scholarly books I have read, are by the late Lester Sumrall. Written on a level anyone can understand, his books are short, concise, and clear on the subject, and consist mainly of his experiences. Very interesting, quick reads. He became an acolyte of Smith Wigglesworth, another great man of faith who had a deliverance ministry.”

Happy to read same. Lester Sumrall is on the list. Also, we have begun to do Biblical self-deliverance here. We have had deliverance session at the Keyministries.
