BALTIMORE Weeks after protesters toppled a statue of Christopher Columbus and threw it into Baltimores Inner Harbor, members of the citys Italian American community are developing a plan to reproduce the marble monument so it can be displayed in a more secure location.
Grand Knight Santo Grasso, of the Knights of Columbus St. Vincent Pallotti Council No. 14535, said community members retrieved the statue from the Inner Harbor a few days after it was vandalized July 4. Broken into three pieces, however, it cannot be restored.
Everybody was upset, said Grasso, a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Church in Little Italy.
It was devastating because we had talked with the city. We were trying to negotiate with the city two weeks before this happened about protecting the statue until we could figure out what to do with it. And the city failed us, he told the Catholic Review, the news outlet of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
Baltimore Mayor Jack Young has denounced the toppling and vowed the perpetrators would be brought to justice, but videos of the incident show police officers choosing not to intervene as the statue came down.
Then-President Ronald Reagan and Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer dedicated the artwork in a 1984 ceremony that also included Baltimore Archbishop William D. Borders. The statue had been funded by the Italian American community.

Whatever you do, dont put the new statue on public property.
The savages who did it will never be brought to justice. They’ve been randomly terrorizing Inner Harbor for years. It used to be such a beautiful place.
I sincerely appreciate their efforts. However, theres no such thing as a more secure location within Baltimore city limits.
Maybe they could put fences with spikes on top around monuments and statues?
It would be ugly, but put fences with concertina wire on top around these locations?
Perhaps have some guard dogs living at these locations?
Good. Make it impregnable.
They should display the busted statue on Church grounds. Let the parishioners see how liberal the society has become. They’ll feel proud.
>>Good. Make it impregnable.<<
Give it 1st strike capabilities,
I remember a business trip to Baltimore, including the Inner Harbor, back in the 90s.
Good food. Good beer. Good time.
All gone now, maybe forever.
Mount rockets to his head....
AND USE THEM!
Have the artist wire it with explosives so if anyone attempts to pull it down they will be blown to Mars.
I wish them luck. But no matter how sincere and good at planning they are, the lefties will overcome them, even on private property, and there is not a thing they can do about it because law and order is no longer with us in leftist shitholes like Baltimore.
Maybe the Goombahs should break a few heads.
That’s what they would have done in the old days.
Might have saved the original statue, too.
Hopefully, Trump-hating Bishop Lori won’t shut them down.
they weren’t expecting it. Other statues were protected. They will be prepared in the future and if I have to drive there myself with my bat I’ll take shifts
My aunt and uncle lived maybe 20 minutes to the west, out in the ‘burbs where it was safe back in the day. I took both my wives on dates to Inner Harbor (not to mention a few other lady friends). Fells Point was always a go-to for me, as well as the aquarium, science center, Harborplace, bobbing from one point to another on a Water Taxi. I may never see it again in my lifetime, but I’m glad I have the memories of what it was like then, not what it’s become now. I have no compassion for the rioting ferals, or whatever end they might meet.
Good. Will it be made available to shove up Nancy Pelosi’s behind?
Sorry, not sorry.
Put the statue back and post a small sign next to it with a pictures of a few old Mafia hits...
The sign should read:
“PLEASE DO NOT VANDALIZE THIS STATUE”
as my old uncle Guido said..Its amazing what a Please and Thank-You can accomplish...Every one respected Uncle Guidos opinion..the ones that didn't...must have moved away...they never showed up at his funeral........../s
Thanks for your story.
What can I say? I would like to live in an historic old city up north, but I thank the Lord daily that I’m in sunny Southwest Florida, where things are still quiet and orderly, the Wu flu notwithstanding.
PING!
