Dan Gibson introduces a new on-line tool that takes visitors on a tour through the Islamic places in Petra. Gibson explains that the original place names in Petra have been lost over the centuries, and that most of the place names are from the last several hundred years. Then using the descriptions of the earliest Islamic places, this tool takes the viewers through the Islamic places in Petra, including AlAqsa in Jiranah, Zamzam, the Ka'ba, the Cave of Hira, Arafat mountain, the Plains of Arafat, Muzdalifah , Mina, Jumrat, and the temple of Hubal and Alat. The tool can be found online at: ....

Indeed, all the historic clues including Koran descriptions and the orientations of the earliest mosques in both Asia and Africa all point to Petra. Mecca was nowhere in sight.

While Petra is an amazing place, why refer to Petra’s ruins as “islamic places”? Petra, and the Nabataeans who built it, predated Islam by a thousand years.

Probably more clear to refer to them as "places and attributes referred to in the Koran and claimed by Islam to be in Mecca which doesn't actually have any of these places nor any of the attributes attributed to it." But that's pretty long.

The earliest mosques point to Petra, whether in Persia, Arabia, China, India, etc. Later ones point to a spot (or spots) between Petra and Mecca, and even later ones eventually point to Mecca. Then there are a bunch that point in a direction parallel to the line between Petra and Mecca (what were they thinking?)

So the logical conclusion is that the original Mecca was actually Petra.

My husband and I visited Petra.

There is NO going inside. It's just a facade...albeit a FABULOUS facade.
We did have to go there by horseback. It was a hot, dry and sticky ride but worth every bead of sweat.

The Arab alphabet has no "P" so they pronounce it BETRA. Everyone around there knows what's being talked about.

FABULOUS FACADE!!

What you see is only a FACADE. There IS no going inside. There never was. It was always a FACADE...a fabulous facade. It’s solid rock two feet in.

“The Arab alphabet has no “P” so they pronounce it BETRA”.

So, if you rent a Plymouth, Porsche, or Peugeot, it’s hard to pronounce...

Except, maybe, “Boo-Joe”...
;)

Because of the lack of a P in Arabic, the Palestinians call them selves the Fallacy. Its hilarious.

Ironic that the Muslims often claim to be from places they can’t even pronounce. The irony is strong with them.

The big difference is that a PILE OF BRICKS can become a PILE OF *ricks.
Can't
mix up those Bs and Ps.

I remember that example from an English teacher.

They have sounds that are unpronounceable for us.
But people will get a laugh and know what they mean.
That's part of the fun of traveling...language.

Beter Biper biked a beck of bickled bebbers....:o)

Muslims know where they're from. And they DO say BALESTINE...OOPS, I forgot, there IS no BALESTINE or PALESTINE.

Also the "th" sound is one that only two alphabets have...ours and Arabic.
thalatha = three.
Europeans, non-English speakers say "tree" instead of THREE.

Indeed I was there too. I climbed up to the top of the Monastery with my group. With no guard rail I was a bit nervous and avoided going near the edge but the view was fabulous. You can see the steps on the side one uses to get up there. We unfurled a flag up there too :)
