Pope Francis, unnoticed, has gradually been putting women into positions of power
Priests have no credibility when it comes to training people for marriage, according to the most senior Irish cleric in the Vatican.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, from Drimnagh in Dublin and prefect (head) of the Vaticans Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life said priests are not the best people to train others for marriage.
They have no credibility; they have never lived the experience; they may know moral theology, dogmatic theology in theory, but to go from there to putting it into practice every day....they dont have the experience.
Clericalism is dead, the Cardinal behind the World Meeting of Families in Dublin next month also said, not because weve done anything to kill it, but out of sheer numbers. In Dallas, where he was Bishop from 2007 to 2016, we have a million and a half Catholics and 75 priests, with a 45 to 50 per cent rate of (Mass) attendance. Those 75 priests are not going to be interested in organising marriage meetings, he said.
We have to worry about the 99 per cent, about the baptised, and not worry about the other things we have been obsessed with. (Dublins Catholic archdiocese, with a population of 1.15 million Catholics, has 413 diocesan and religious priests).

He needs a little video-game beeber in his hands.
He had one but either the dog chomped it or one of the kids hid it.
If Peter was single, how did he have a mother-in-law? (See Matthew 8:14.)
Training people for marriage, in the practical sense, should have already been done by the parents.
C.S. Lewis got heat for giving the Biblical view of marriage before he married. But he said that the Christian view of marriage is based “not on the experiences of men but on the teachings of Christ”.
Remember Christ is married. His bride is the Church.
But worse Metmom is those marriage counselors who have been married three times and divorced three times. Having made a mess of their lives they give trendy advice to impact others.
LOL! I’m betting on a kid: the dog doesn’t look quite big enough.
“In the Bible, Jesus and Paul lay out the guidelines for Marriage. Neither of them were ever married.”
Two priests were particularly formative in my own life. One was an older Polish priest (Polish-American) who was a traditional never married priest. He was gruff, but with an incredible heart, and he was a wonderful man. The other was another incredible man who had been a teacher, married with children, until he and his wife were hit by a drunk driver. She died. He finished raising his kids, and then entered Seminary. He brought an entirely different perspective to the priesthood, and has been an incredible priest. I personally think it’s about the person. That said, I think it’s a lot to ask for parish priests to have the wisdom of Jesus or Paul.
BTW, the Word is crystal clear, even for those who claim Sola Scriptura along with the other "Solas" that go with the Word.
Humility is the essential ingredient for all things, including marriage.
Send them to the Marriage Encounter weekend in your area.
Um....if Peter was single, then explain in Mark’s Gospel the healing of the mother-in-law of Peter.
You know it’s sad. In my profession I’ve seen my friends marry and when I visit them after they’ve had their first child I can see the sadness. I don’t know why but on the surface they seem happy but on a one-on-one not so much.
max,
We had five kids when we attended a Marriage Encounter weekend. It changed our lives and we had eight happy years of marriage after that. (Before my husband died from cancer.)
Our kids thanked us profusely and said they did not want their old parents back.

Along with continuous love and service to and with one another.
Mark 1:29-31.
They didn’t have parents?
Classy response.
I think it’s just that life is hard and enjoyment is fleeting ... but recurring.
