An astonishing discovery has been made during repair work to the Edicule -- the ancient chamber housing Jesus' tomb in Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Scientists have reported extraordinary phemonena that may support the authenticity of the Holy Shroud of Turin.
On October 26, 27 and 28, 2016 a group of scientists and religious authorities oversaw the removal of the marble slab that covers the tomb of Christ. Marie-Armelle Beaulieu, editor-in-chief of Terre Sainte Magazine, reports that some of the measuring instruments used by scientists were altered by electromagnetic disturbances when they were placed directly on the stone in which Christs body rested. The scientists reports that their measuring devices either malfunctioned or ceased to work at all. Aleteia reports:
The phenomenon was confirmed by one of the scientists authorized to access the tomb. Later, one of the heads of the building and construction team, Antonia Moropoulou, indicated that it is really hard to imagine that someone would be willing to put in danger his or her reputation just because of a publicity stunt. Moreover, the journalist testifies to the scientists surprise during the opening of the slab: they hoped that the grave would be much lower than it was. Their conclusion: previously performed analyses with the instruments seemed to have been distorted by an electromagnetic disturbance.
The observation of unusual electromagnetic disturbances at the tomb of Our Lord may support a scientific hypothesis proposed to explain the creation of the mysterious image on the Holy Shroud of Turin. After five years of study and experiments scientists at Italy's National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development [ENEA] concluded that the Shroud of Turin cannot be a 'medieval fake'.
Amen, having looked into the history and science of the shroud and it is my opinion that the shroud is ABSOLUTELY the burial cloth of Christ with His image on it.
NO DOUBT, PERIOD!
Paging Glenn Beck...please pick up the nut-colored courtesy phone..
I have no reluctance to accept the shroud as Christ’s and hope there will be even more definitive proof as to its authenticity as well as how the image was formed. I have long been close to being an agnostic but if the shroud can prove the resurrection is to have happened, there is no need to doubt anything else.

"IRRELEVANT CONLUSIONS, Leaping to..."
The Shroud and the ‘linen clothes’ of the gospel are the same thing.
Just as the Sudarium and the ‘napkin’ are the same thing.

No one denies that the SoT is a "REAL" piece of cloth, with an observable image on it.
Only fools insist that it is in any way proved to be related to the death and resurrection of Our Lord. And even weaker-faithed fools place any hope or faith in that piece of "REAL" cloth -- instead of in the One it is purported to represent...
"Relics" = Spiritual crutches for the spiritually-inadequate...

This physical scientist -- who is also a believer -- agrees with the above, 100%!
In fact, it is what has made my lifetime of scientific discovery also one of joy and worship of our Creator!
The Shroud is a real linen cloth, dating back to the time of Christ, containing pollen from Jerusalem at the time of Christ and marked with the image of Christ using a process that defies scientific explanation.
The marks on the Shroud also match perfectly to the Sudarium of Olviedo, the facecloth that was placed on the face of Christ.
Anyone who has a regard for truth will agree that this is indeed the burial shroud of Christ.
Its authenticity appears to confound and threaten you. Why?
You don’t base your faith on it - why would you? But why are you so keen to deny that it is what it is? Why would a Christian deny truth?
My problem with the SoT is that -- so far --no competent group of scientific authorities have produced any reports actually tying it to the timeframe of the resurrection and transformation of Christ. There are interesting bits and pieces -- but there is a huge mountain of conflicting flummery and misinformation.
My problem with the premise of this thread is the imbecilic leap of "VOILA!" logic connecting those supposed magnetic anomalies in a piece of stone to the plausible effect (at the far, opposite end of the elecromagnetic energy spectrum) that could have involved sufficient, instant energy release to have formed the "flash-sublimation transfer" image on the shroud.
The statement in the article was one of (misplaced) faith multiplied by scientific ignorance -- NOT any evidence of scientific relationship -- much less correlation.
Bottom line: Stupid, ignorant, pseudoscientific article.
Oh right, sorry, you were reacting to the article.
I agree: a mere magnetic anomaly is hardly a compelling argument.
Re : Post #15
*No, the sample taken for that test was from some newer material used to patch up where there had been some fire damage.
What they have found on the shroud are pollen grains from a thorny flowering plant that grows around Jerusalem.*
Yes. Also the dated fragments came from the corners, where it has be verified that Bishops throughout the ages held the shroud for exhibitions, so the corners may have been contaminated.
Believe what thou wilt...
Au contraire! Every rock in existence emits electromagnetic radiation.
Neither is it "mysterious-sounding".
Sadly, for the true audience of these articles (i.e., people lacking a solid background in the physical sciences), it's something very mysterious (they might not even realize, for example, that every object with a temperature above Absolute Zero - a slab of rock, for instance - emits measurable amounts of electromagnetic radiation).
Regards,
But not every rock in existence emits electromagnetic radiation sufficient to do this:
(From the article) The scientists reports that their measuring devices either malfunctioned or ceased to work at all.
Right?
Sadly, for the true audience of these articles (i.e., people lacking a solid background in the physical sciences), it's something very mysterious (they might not even realize, for example, that every object with a temperature above Absolute Zero - a slab of rock, for instance - emits measurable amounts of electromagnetic radiation).
So what? What's important here, as explained in my previous post, is the relative level of radiation produced by the burial slab, compared to other rocks in the immediate vicinity. They act as controls and enable the scientists to set the baseline level of radiation being emitted from other areas of the site. This baseline data can then be compared to the data acquired from the burial slab. When this analysis is repeated multiple times, a calculation of the statistical significance of any differences between burial slab and adjacent areas can be obtained. I assume this has been done, since the article refers those involved as "scientists".
If you want on or off the Shroud of Turin Ping List, Freepmail me.
Until we see the exact figures on the levels and wavelengths of the EM radiation allegedly being emitted from the rock slab, it is pointless to discuss this - we are, in essence, arguing in a (near) vacuum of real information.
"...can be obtained." Call me when it is obtained.
"...I assume... that this has been done... refers [to] those involved as "scientists." That's hardly better than publishing a rumor and referring to "inside sources" or reporting on a new "cure for cancer" based on the testimony / speculation of so-called "experts."
Read my tagline.
Regards,
For 1500 years, nuns have been handling this cloth, putting repairs on it through a process called reweaving. In reweaving the goal is that the new part looks exactly the same as the old part. I knew a woman who did reweaving as part of her income. Her customer base was business men with $1000 suits. The seat starts to wear thin and she takes care of it. In this case, as I recall, there were no women in the room when the decision was made. I’m no seamstress but I was taught to darn socks by my grandmother and even I might have been able to detect the signs of repairs. They could have pulled any one of the little nuns in the cathedral complex who takes care of the vestments to come in and look and find a part that was original... but they didn’t, hence the mistake. There are some pretty convincing videos on youtube about this. I watch that stuff but I don’t retain much of it.
