The Absurdity of Separated Brethren

Before Protestants were "separated brethren"...

Q. Does the Lord make use of apostate Catholics, such as Martin Luther, Calvin, John Knox, Henry VIII., King of England, to reform the manners of the people?

A. The thought is absurd. The lives of those men were evil, and it is only the devil that makes use of them to pervert the people still more. The Lord makes use of His saints, such as a St. Francis of Assisium, a St. Dominick, a St. Ignatius, a St. Alphonsus, to convert the people and reform their evil manners by explaining to them the truths of faith, the commandments, and the necessity of receiving the sacraments with proper dispositions, and by setting them in their own lives the loftiest example of faith, purity, and all Christian virtues.

Q. Are there any other reasons to show that heretics, or Protestants who die out of the Roman Catholic Church, are not saved?

A. There are several. They cannot be saved, because

1. They have no divine faith.

2. They make a liar of Jesus Christ, of the Holy Ghost, and of the Apostles.

3. They have no faith in Christ.

4. They fell away from the true Church of Christ.

5. They are too proud to submit to the Pope, the Vicar of Christ.

6. They cannot perform any good works whereby they can obtain heaven.

7. They do not receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

8. They die in their sins.

9. They ridicule and blaspheme the Mother of God and His saints.

10. They slander the spouse of Jesus Christ —:the Catholic Church.

Q. What is the act of faith of a Protestant?

A. O my God, I believe nothing except what my own private judgment tells me to believe; therefore I believe that I can interpret Thy written word—the Holy Scriptures —as I choose. I believe that the Pope is anti-Christ; that any man can be saved, provided he is an honest man; I believe that faith alone is sufficient for salvation; that good works, and works of penance, and the confession of sins are not necessary, etc.

Q. Have Protestants any faith in Christ?

A. They never had.

Q. Why not?

A. Because there never lived such a Christ as they imagine and believe in.

Q. In what kind of a Christ do they believe?

A. In such a one of whom they can make a liar, with impunity, whose doctrine they can interpret as they please, and who does not care about what a man believes, provided he be an honest man before the public.

Q. Will such a faith in such a Christ save Protestants?

A. No sensible man will assert such an absurdity.

Do you two and all the other Prot’s have the same “faith”?

If not, which Prots have the True Faith?

Don't confuse Christianity with Religion.

The Inquisition also kept the Muslims in check.

Gave ‘em a Baptized version of Sharia.

As Catholics grew in proportion to the population through immigration and are now the largest denomination of Christendom, this nation has experienced greater and greater evil. (Catholics represented less than 2% of the population when this nation formed and are now around 25%.)

As with Muslims.

“Most countries have socialist, regardless of religious identity.”

My point was that free enterprise came from the USA which was formed by a large variety of Protestants who were able to agree together on a form of government, national laws, and protection of property and individual liberties. To the extent the Christian values of this nation have been abandoned, the nation has declined. No other religion, except possibly Judaism, has had the track record of success that sprang from this nation’s Protestant roots.

“It certainly appears that such feelings emanate from your side as well.”

It is interesting how Catholics offer proof that Protestantism is false because we are not in complete agreement on many things. But then you like to lump us all together and blame us all for the works of those Protestants who committed the same crimes as the Catholic church.

You don’t get to have it both ways.

The main argument Catholics make for the authority of Rome is the single doctrinal view and authority of Rome. Can you show me where the Catholic church / Rome has repented of the crimes of burning people at the stake for printing the Bible? Do you think it was wrong to do this? We still have these Bibles in use today. Do you advocate killing and torturing Bible publishers today?

If not, can you admit the church or Rome committed great sin by doing these things?

I am not picking on the Roman Church; I say this to all churches. If God was willing to cut down the Nation of Israel because of unbelief and sin, what makes you think He will not cut down the Roman Church, or any other Church, the rejects the Word of God and follows the traditions of men...

Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down , and cast into the fire.

....Muslims at the gate...

Unfortunately the Pope and it's membership are "inviting" them in... the pope wants the two religions (Christianity and Islam) to be friends....a 'serious' mistake...as does our government....so their can be no agreement...it IS a battle for the souls of men

Actually, it went both ways, especially in England and Ireland. Oliver Cromwell’s stated intent in Ireland was to drive all Catholics “To Hell Or Connacht” (the harsh, unfertile western part), and sold over 100,00 Irish Catholics into slavery in the West Indies.

Persecution is one area where neither side should claim clean hands.

“Christ said you can recognize a tree by its fruit.”

You are darn right!

I got sick of the rotten fruit of the protestants!

I got sick of an incomplete bible

I got sick of a church had lacked the full sacraments.

I don’t like a church that does not have a service every day or is even open daily just for prayer.

I wanted a church that was 100% pro life although I must admit I did not know this at the time.

I got sick of a pastor who told me all other “churches” were going to hell that did not believe in our churches doctrine, yet refused to associate with those other churches because they did not have the same doctrine.

I got sick of the rich brats in our church always getting away with murder just cause their parents gave a lot of money to the church.

When I joined the Catholic church I was told:

How to “Get saved” the way the bible says to do it!

I was taught how hard it is to be a saint.

I was given a complete copy of the Bible not the one Martin Luther chopped up.

I was told why Mary is so important in all of this, and wow did that ever blow me away. Actually it turned me 100% prolife, something the protestants could never do, but that is another story.

I learned how to pray.

I have a church that has a service every day and is open for prayer.

What I have learned now as a Catholic is so far beyond what I ever learned in my former church.

The biggest thing I have learned is why you are the way you are. “Unless you drink my blood and eat my flesh you will not have life with in you”. You have no idea what that means but I do. Thank God now I do and it’s because of the Catholic Church, because the protestants sure never taught me that.

Is that that true, Geron, et al? Does editor-surveyor speak for all you Prots?

Do you all have your own individuals paths up the same mountain? Some Prots condone queer marriage, female priests, female bishops, aborton; some don’t. How do y’all square that?

I say the same things about the Lutheran Church, Methodist Church, Episcopalian Church, ELCA, Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn, and a host of other denominations.

We live in perilous times where men do not endure sound doctrine...

2 Timothy 4:3 - For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

National government followed church government.

In the colonies, mostly Protestant, had limited government with few layers. Same with church government.

In the European nations, still with kings who held to ‘divine right’ and not so far removed from Rome theologically and geographically, had many layers of government/nobles, with autocratic monarchs at the top... plus a head of the church who exerted influence.

Not all prots condone queers, women preachers & deacons, etc

The Orthodox Presbyterian, Reformed, and Lutheran Missouri synod don’t condone the items you listed one bit.
