Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has attended the Coptic Christmas mass to mark the first attendance ever made by an Egyptian president to the religious occasion.
El-Sisi arrived at Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Cairo's Abbasiya district during the mass and gave a brief speech before leaving instantly.
He said that both of Egypt's Muslims and Christians are celebrating this occasion, asserting that they are "one entity" in the world's eyes.
He added that he had to come to congratulate the Coptic community and then apologised for interrupting the mass.
Video footage broadcast by State TV covering the full mass showed crowds cheering as El-Sisi entered the Cathedral with churchmen and saluted Pope Tawadros II.
Former Egyptian heads of state have visited the Cathedral including Gamal Abd El-Nasser and interim President Adly Mansour, but this is the first time for a president to attend the mass.

Good move, but I hope he has enough bodyguards to protect him from Obama’s friends, the Moslem Brotherhood.
The more I read about this guy, the more I like him. He also just told Muslim religious scholars to rethink Islam to create an Islamic Enlightenment to get it out of a Dark Age mentality. I hope he stays in power a long time (despite Obama’s efforts to undermine him).
This is gonna really PO Obama, McCain, Graham, Burr and all the RATS!
You have to love this guy. But I have no doubt that he is making himself a prime candidate for assassination by his recent actions. He is confronting Islam in a way that we have never seen by a major Middle-East leader. The Imams cannot be happy.
Sort of an Ataturk of Egypt.
Even better would be a Christian president, but we thank God for whatever situation we can get.
I hope Sisi grooms some good #2 guys to be ready in case he gets personally murdered. At any rate Sisi is no sissy....
He’s making all the right moves. We like him.
Therefore, Obama hates his guts.
I had my doubts about the guy but he’s showing some real steel.
He was educated at some advanced American Military schools. He is well known and liked amongst high ranked American Generals.
Obama hates Sisi because he destroyed the “muslim brotherhood” in Egypt; a group that Obama was supporting.
This very act classified him as a “strong” person .. and not easily swayed by the likes of Obama.
Yes, Obama has had it in for Sisi since the beginning. But Sisi must represent what a lot of other people in Egypt are thinking as well. I think their experiment with Islamic fundamentalism was a learning experience for them...
Won’t be the first time in history that God made Egypt friendly to Christ. Eschatology is odd sometimes. Egypt has less interest in being Islamic than many other Middle Eastern locales; they are almost as cognizant of their ancient history as China is of its.
One plays with fire, one gets burned.
When Pope Benedict spoke at Regensburg, (his famous address in which he invited Muslims into dialogue), he got lambasted for it.
Here is a little history behind the problem of the Muslims and their unwillingness to dialogue:
About the time the West discovered Aristotle's Ethics and Politics in the twelfth century, Islam had reached it's peak. The top imams at the time decided that Islam would no longer use the elements of philosophy which had been their strong suit for 500 years. They issued fatwas for anyone caught reading philosophy or teaching it. So in began their decline when they rejected all that they had been able to glean from the Greek philosophers. While the West soared in knowledge.
People are always better off when they talk to each other. The Muslims are not in discussion with the West.
They appear to be stuck in the dark past, because they are.
The POTUS was worshiping at the golf course in HI. Even marginal Christians attend Christmas services, but our First Family never has.
I agree with your assessment, and this is why I also agree that Sisi is a different breed .. and I’m going to be studying his relationship with Israel.
Indeed. Albania is the same way: mostly Muslim but they all love their national hero Scanderbeg, who apostasized from Islam, reverted to Christianity, and fought the Turks with everything he had.
And I’ve heard the Berbers have a similarly loose allegiance to Islam. We need to figure out how to use these feelings of nationalism as a way to pry these good people from the suffocating grasp of the Koran.
Christendom finally had a decisive upper hand over Islam for most of the last century, and we lost our faith instead of passing it on to those who needed it. Sigh.

This alone explains WHY Obama LOATHES HIM.
A clerk at the corner store is a Coptic, who came from Egypt, about 10 years ago. He told me that one of the first things Al-Sisi did upon becoming President, was authorizing government funds be used to rebuild every church that was destroyed or damaged during the Muslim Brotherhood’s brief reign.
Think about that - a Muslim who didn’t loot the treasury, but expended millions to help restore Christianity. This is a brave man. Hopefully, he avoids the fate of Sadat.
Has the Israeli embassy in Cairo reopened yet?
