I don't know where or how to begin, so since Townhall is a secular website with many Christian viewers, I will simply post a couple pieces of scripture--one for each comment, although there are multiple choice Bible verses contrasting what Osteen personally believes:
OSTEEN: "I don't know who would say that you're not supposed to, you know, leave your children better than they were before."
GOD: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother'--which is the first commandment with a promise--'that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.' Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:1-4)
OSTEEN: "There's a belief that you're supposed to suffer more and be poor and to show your humility. I just, I don't see the Bible that way."
GOD: "This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials. Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1 Peter 1:6-7)
As far as what God says about how we bless people and what we bless them with, God asks us to bless people with eternal gifts--namely, Him, and not earthly ones--regardless of our mental, physical, or monetary state:
GOD: "But He [God] said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
Parting note: Belief in God, Jesus, and His Word is worthless if you do not love and obey Him. Satan believes all these things but doesn't love Him nor follow His commands.
I think his Bible (at least I’m assuming he actually has one) is missing Philippians.
That looks like Jane from “Breaking Bad”.

It’s the LORD’S Rolls Royce...
Just like Algore. He can’t preach the tenants of global warming, I mean climate change, without my gigantic mansion, G650, and convoy of air conditioned SUVs.
This guy oozes BS.
Why we have an 0steen thread on FR is beyond me. 0steen is on the wrong team. We might as well have media matters thread or a DU thread.
Yes, I guess Jesus could have done more good if he had had a TV show that brings in over $100K per week. (Sarcasm, not blasphemy)
No Francis of Assisi is he.
Joel Osteen - the white Reverend Ike.
Maybe halfway there.</sarc>
I just cannot believe the greed oozing from this statement:
Pastor Joel Osteen to Oprah: “I Can’t Be A Big Blessing To People If I’m Poor & Broke”.
I had heard that, in the midst of troubles, folks that ‘had it together’ were always thought of, as being someone to emulate, cash not withstanding, for the peace of mind and spirit they possessed.
So, Joel, if y’all be poor, boy, don’t that mean that you’se got nothing to git you off the path, as a distraction? I heard that y’all supposed to be dependent upon G-D if y’all are following the calling? Or does that mean that your WIFE ain’t gonna like ya, cuz SHE don’t got the money and her friends DO?
(Folks, it shows me that he has just put his cash first, and his beliefs, second.)
People seem to forget that Jesus was a ‘trust-fund’ baby. When he was born kings came to visit and brought gifts. If you go a bit further back in the bible, you can see the types of gifts that kings gave to each other. Talk about extravagant! In our simple story of the birth of Jesus, we use 3 wise men with small gifts. In the end we don’t know the number or volume of the gifts. But we do know ‘Dad’ was taking care of Jesus’ family. Remember, Joseph had to take his family to Egypt to escape a tyrants rampage against his son.
And at the end of his life, the guards drew lots for the robe owned by Jesus because it was too valuable.
I do believe that poverty is a current lie of the enemy against the church - just as much of a lie as prosperity. Much of the prosperity message is so good - sowing seeds, being good stewards, curses being broken, being a financial blessing (the topic of this thread). The bible says that the wealth of the wicked is stored up for God’s people.
As usual, the truth lies somewhere between the mis-characterized representations each side gives to the other. Some err on the side of poverty, others on the side of wealth. Men like Dave Ramsey add wisdom to their faith, and none fault him. He is doing what a good pastor does - prepares/equips people for the work given to us.
"God gives you the power to make wealth" (Deut8:18)
"The Lord makes poor and rich" (1 Sam.2:7)
"riches and honor come from you" (1Chr.29:12)
"wealth and riches are in the house of the man who fears the Lord (Ps.112:3)
"I will give you riches and honor" (2 Chr.1:2)
"God gave Hezekiah great wealth" (2 Chr.32:29)
"a man to whom God has given wealth" (Eccles. 5:19;6:2)
"wisdom gives riches and honor(Prov.3:16)
"riches and honor are with me" (Prov8:18)
"wisdom fills the treasuries of those who love her" (Prov.8:21)
"the crown of the wise is their riches" (Prov.14:24)
"by your wisdom you have acquired wealth(Ezek. 28:4)
Why would the Lord say in Malachi 3 that if you help with the poor (fill his storehouse) that He would “pour down an overflowing blessing, pressed down, shaken together...”?
**I think the point is to sacrifice early in life where we are tried with hardships; then later in life one becomes blessed with wealth.
Osteen is running a Billion dollar empire;would all you Republicans deny a CEO one or two percent of the wealth? The guy works as hard as any CEO, any he’s honest about not being a divinity school graduate.
He’s not fire and brimstone but he includes Jesus in his messages. This country needs all the help it can get imo. Didn’t Jesus say anyone who is not against us is for us? My two cents.
The church of the blow-dried saints!
**but he includes Jesus in his messages**
No he doesn’t. Unless you want to count a 3 second invitation tacked on at the end as including Jesus.
Or his wallet.
Jesus didn’t have a big bank account. But he was a blessing to all mankind. Osteen really has it all twisted up.
This man is sick. Very sick.
