Watch out Pope Francis: the Catholic civil war has begun
The Spectator ^ | 11/08/2014 | Damian Thompson

Posted on 11/08/2014 4:34:43 AM PST by kinsman redeemer

‘At this very critical moment, there is a strong sense that the church is like a ship without a rudder,’ said a prominent Catholic conservative last week. No big deal, you might think. Opponents of Pope Francis have been casting doubt on his leadership abilities for months — and especially since October’s Vatican Synod on the Family, at which liberal cardinals pre-emptively announced a softening of the church’s line on homosexuality and second marriages, only to have their proposals torn up by their colleagues.

The responsibility for such departures lies with those in positions of power who confuse and scandalize the faithful.

There is nothing wrong with Opus Dei.

May God grant us the grace and humility to know the difference.

The difference is obvious. The spiritual merit one may gain by silently offering up one's own sufferings does not apply when one remains willfully silent while others are harmed.

I am a well-informed Catholic, but that does not make me an expert. That was my point.

I have nothing against classical music, that is his niche. He's not a theologian and neither am I. So If I wrote this article I would not expect it to be taken as authoritative.

I know you are aware that any hack can write an article and then all the Anti-Catholics come out of the word work to twist it to their pov. That's all I was saying.

Not so. We ALL have responsibility.

We all have the responsibility to resist evil when we see it. What is your limit? Would you remain silent regarding the porno-publishing bishops in Germany? Would you quietly accept the lies contained in the pro-homo relationship, pro-adulterous communicant interim relatio, although such lies endanger souls?

Novena Prayer:
St. Maximilian Kolbe

O Lord Jesus Christ, who said, "greater love than this no man has that a man lay down his life for his friends,"
through the intercession of St. Maximilian Kolbe whose life illustrated such love, we beseech you to grant us our petitions . . .
(here mention the requests you have).

Through the Militia Immaculata movement, which Maximilian founded, he spread a fervent devotion to Our Lady throughout the world. He gave up his life for a total stranger and loved his persecutors, giving us an example of unselfish love for all men - a love that was inspired by true devotion to Mary.
Grant, O Lord Jesus, that we too may give ourselves entirely without reserve to the love and service of our Heavenly Queen in order to better love and serve our fellowman in imitation of your humble servant, Maximilian. Amen.

(Say 3 Hail Marys and a Glory Be)

Personally, I think all good Christians should be on guard against the spirit of suspicion AND the spirit of DIVISION.

Personally, I think all good Catholics should be on guard against the spirit of indifference.

***The post was basically that Brownback was part of Opes [s/b Opus] Dei (he’s not even Catholic although he is married to one)...***

“Raised Methodist, Brownback turned evangelical before converting to Catholicism in 2002 under the guidance of John McCloskey, a priest affiliated with the conservative Opus Dei organization.”

hmmm. OK. My bad again. I do like him a lot. Very pro life. I know he’s somewhat for amnesty but I think he comes to it honestly and he’s saved me thousands in tax cuts. Also, I love the two judges in my district whom he appointed.

From Mark Mallett (in your commentary):

Staying close to the Sacraments and Jesus and Mary are of the utmost importance.

The second thing we must do is pray more, talk less.

We are fortunate to personally know a few holy priests, and none of them, we've noticed, discuss the pope (or any other pope, or religious), either way. If anyone wants answers, they can be found straight from Christ through the Blessed Sacrament as Mark states. All solid priests have told us this too.

My last trip to the adoration chapel I spent my two-hour time spot with two complete strangers; I've never seen either one of them before (I usually adore alone; our chapel is very tiny). And these two men were still there after I left. Where did they come from? It was good to see. Sacraments and prayer, yes! http://adorationrocks.com

Excellent! This is so true and GOOD. Thank you.
The people I know who spend much time in front of the Blessed Sacrament at adoration seem so very balanced and loving in what they say and do. We know why that takes place. Spending much time with HE, WHO is HOLY has a profound effect.

We can also consecrate ourselves to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I wish to encourage everyone on this thread to do so via the book, 33 Days to Morning Glory: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat In Preparation for Marian Consecration by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley. One will see a wonderful growth in spiritual life after doing this...and that is something VERY good for all of us. ;-)

It can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Days-Morning-Glory-Do-—Yourself/dp/1596142448/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415482047&sr=8-1&keywords=33+days+to+morning+glory

It looks like your first comments were deleted, so I don’t know your opinion on this topic.

I made no comment at all. I posted the second paragraph of the article then I posted the Pope's picture from the article.

Since personal attacks are out of bounds, some have take to making general statements about "Catholic haters" (and similar variations.) I do not hate Catholics. I hate what the RCC is doing. I've been clear about that on any thread whose subject discusses RCC sacred tradition and dogma and where I am allowed to post an opinion.

I did not post this article to start a battle. I posted it because another thread about this same article was removed. The poster did not follow the posting rules. It is a significant and timely article.

I do not mind criticizing the RCC or their leader.

I am concerned about the work of the Church of Jesus Christ. I am concerned about people's eternal destiny.

My point was that Damian Thompson has been writing commentary on the Church for a long time. So, whether he is a trained theologian or not, he has established a reputation, even if only as a commentator.

We must above all show charity to our enemies. By this you may know that a man is a true Christian, if he seeks to do good to those who wish him evil.
-- Saint Alphonsus Liguori

The ole LOVE YOUR ENEMY thing. Well, CHARITY, at least.
