Ill call him Fr. John. He was a charismatic Anglo Catholic priest.
A friend of my brother Daryls well call Henry died suddenly in a plane crash and he was upset because although Henry was a believer he was away from God when he died.
So Fr. John said, We have to have a requiem Mass for Henry.
They went into church and locked the door for privacys sake. Another priest well call Fr. George celebrated the Mass.
Henry was about twenty years old. He was just over five foot tall with a shock of blonde hair and a wide face with freckles.

This catholic University wants ..”to UNIFY Pagan, the spiritual but not religious, those seeking faith or religion, minority faith students including but not limited to:..... Buddhists, Taoists, Shinto practitioners, Santeras, etc pluralists and those students interested in New Age religions on Loyolas campus.”
This IS the ‘New Age Spirituality Agenda’ which the Catholic Church is fostering as well as the Pope and the World Council of Churches.
I don’t believe that comment is anything more than avoiding a response.
Actually, it is more like my Lord's brand. He expelled those who were defiling the temple, turning over their tables and scattering their wares. Have you ever bought a candle at the door and lit it for some dead person?
The Roman Catholic organization is the largest cult in the world, using a strict definition of the word. It depends on extra-Biblical interpretations and traditions of men and creates a semblance of hope for those who follow it's requirements. It is man based, not God based.
However, it is the extra-Biblical part and those silly traditions which will send those deceived straight into Hell. The organization excels at indoctrination and is skillful in keeping the faithful toeing the party line. BUT, many are seeing the truth and leaving to follow Christ, not a human organization.
We are told to fellowship with believers. That is the church. It is not a hierarchical organization based in Rome, but instead, is alive in the hearts of those who have accepted Christ as Savior, and have been filled with His Spirit. (where two or three are gathered in My name...Matt 18:20)
A am not targeting you personally. I have faith in Christ's sacrifice that satisfies my soul and grants me the assurance of things to come... through the infilling of His Holy Spirit! I don't need "smells and bells"...
Hebrews 11: 11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at Gods command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. ...
Hebrews 12: ... 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. ...

“You and I, vladimir998, would have been fed to the lions for our faith.”
True enough!
“Lions don’t eat rotting flesh!”
Actually they occasionally do, but it makes for a wonderfully poetic title:

You still jabbering?
And the lions would have...
I have a lot of things that linger around my house; but a bit of tuna in the trap and they then get a free re-location about 8 miles away.
“You still jabbering?”
No, but you are apparently.
If there were lions on FR, I bet there are SOME who would like to feed us to THEM as well. :o) Pass the salt, please!
I have never faced such anti-Catholicism as I have seen on this site. It wasn't like this in the late 90's and early 2000's when this site was fairly new. I had a different call sign then.
There was as much dissension and brangling, but no anti-Catholicism. Oh well. Those anti-Catholic sentiments are easy to ignore, aren't they? Those folks are merely added to one of my lists.
WV; you and I would have been rendered on the rack for OUR faith.
Probably gotten indigestion if they had taken a bite out of me. Way too much chili pepper. :o)
HMMMmmm...
Rack and ruin.
There's a myth that one of the early Christian martyrs being roasted alive told the torturers that he was "done on this side and should be turned over."
ECM humor.
I hear you!
They would have gotten some re-cycled pepper outta me; from the wife’s chili tonight!
Lion heartburn! Oh my!
And...the usual results of chili beans. Whew, stand back, LEO had a REALLY spicy-bean Christian today and he is in B...A...D shape. Let's sleep outside tonight!
I’ve sure smelled the dead, but ain’t never seen ‘em.
The wife says that I smell that way.
Occasionally...
Like last night...
I blamed the goats; again...
The temple was dedicated in an eight-hour service on March 27, 1836. A reported "one thousand persons" attended the gathering, which introduced such traditional dedication rites as the Hosanna Shout and singing of W. W. Phelps's hymn "The Spirit of God Like a Fire Is Burning." Following a two-and-a-half hour sermon given by Church leader Sidney Rigdon, Smith offered a dedicatory prayer that had been prepared by a committee of church leaders,[4] which he indicated was given to him by revelation.[5] Two other church leaders, Brigham Young and David W. Patten, were reported to have been inspired to speak in tongues following the prayer (Messenger and Advocate (March 1836)). Truman O. Angell recorded in his journal the following account:
"When about midway during the prayer, there was a glorious sensation passed through the house [Kirtland Temple]; and we, having our heads bowed in prayer, felt a sensation very elevating to the soul. At the close of the prayer, F. G. Williams being in the upper east stand- -Joseph being in the speaking stand next below--rose and testified that midway during the prayer an holy angel came and seated himself in the stand. When the afternoon meeting assembled, Joseph, feeling very much elated, arose the first thing and said the personage who had appeared in the morning was the Angel Peter come to accept the dedication."[6]
On January 21, 1836, before the temple was completed, Smith reported the first of several visions received at the temple. As he and his associates performed a feet washing and anointing ritual, he saw "the celestial kingdom of God, and the glory thereof... [and] the blazing throne of God, whereon was seated the Father and the Son." Smith also reported seeing Adam, Abraham, and three family members, only one of which had previously died; this experience of Smith was canonized by the LDS Church as revelation and published as such for the first time in 1981.
Not long after the dedication, several more visions were reported. On April 3, Smith had his scribe, Warren Cowdery,[7] write down in his personal journal an account of a personal spiritual experience Smith and Oliver Cowdery had while praying in the pulpits. In this experience Joseph states that he and Oliver saw Jesus Christ "standing upon the breastwork of the pulpit." According to Smith's account, Christ accepted the Church's dedication of the temple, and promised blessings according to their obedience. Following the conclusion of this vision of Christ, the account goes on to tell of Smith and Cowdery then receiving visions of Moses, Elias and Elijah. The account in Joseph Smith's Journal is the only known telling of this occurrence during Smith's lifetime. The LDS Church canonized it as section 110 of their Doctrine and Covenants in 1876.
