(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis returned to the southern Italian city of Caserta on Monday for a private visit to the Pentecostal community known as the Evangelical Church of Reconciliation. The Pope first met the founder of the community, Pastor Giovanni Traettino, during his time as archbishop of Buenos Aires and over the past year he has met and received groups of Pentecostals at his Santa Marta residence here in the Vatican.

“12% of the people in the pews were Protestant”... understatement of the year award.
“Next thing you know, hes gonna be apologizing for the extermination of the Cathars, and the St Bartholomews Day Massacre. This man is obviously not cut out for the Inquisition.”
Well, since the Cathars were not exterminated by the Inquisition and St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre had nothing at all to do with the inquisition, he would be suited for the inquisition. The number one job of the inquisition was to reconcile sinners and heretics with the Church. I think he does that.
Tell us again how much unity there is in Catholicism....
I have my issues with the Pentecostal movement, and anyone who is going to try to force the tongues speaking issue on me is going to get an earful, but I just avoid the topic as much as possible otherwise.
For all we non-Catholics get accused of *hate* I guess we have some catching up to do on showing love towards others we disagree with.
bump
Hey Francis!!! How about standing up and speaking forcefully about your fellow Christians who are being martyred by the thousands by the Muslim fanatics in the Middle East and Africa. How about demanding that Muslim religious leaders stand up and speak out against the Muslim terrorists and fanatics. Why are you sitting in your hotel room in the Vatican saying little, if anything, about this horrendous situation??? Your fellow Christians want to know.
“anyone who is going to try to force the tongues speaking issue on me is going to get an earful”
Speaking in tongues is between you and the Holy Spirit. He is the giver of gifts. (Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.)
Nowhere are we commanded to seek after that gift, not everyone has it, and it's the least of all the gifts.
1 Corinthians 12:11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
1 Corinthians 14:1-5 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.
Nor are tongues a sign for believers but unbelievers.
1 Corinthians 14:22 Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
Speaking in tongues is between you and the Holy Spirit. He is the giver of gifts. (Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.)
No it isn't.
The Holy Spirit gives the gifts individually as HE wills for the building up of the church, not personal edification. See 1 Corinthians 14:1-5
And don't even bother trying to imply that if I or anyone else doesn't speak in tongues that I or they are grieving the Holy Spirit.
Your post is a great example of how off of Scriptural teaching on the gifts the Pentecostal movement has gotten.
Nowhere are we commanded to seek after that gift, not everyone has it, and it’s the least of all the gifts
I told you it was your choice. What is your problem?
Someone mentioned it on Facebook.
Amen.
I can't believe I'm about to do this...
Mom, is that you? lol
My mother asked me this same thing in reference to a facebook post and it's old news from when Cardinal Burke said pro-abort pols shouldn't receive Communion. Sorry, wish it was new news, I really, really do.
The Pentecostal Pope!
I am a great grandmother. My granddaughter told me I am on FB more than she is. But, she has a 6 year old daughter. So, tell your mom we read the same thing. : ) I had hoped it were true!
You've got to be kidding. Right?
Pope Francis has come flat out and said he has no intent to convert evangelicals to Catholicism.
“You’ve got to be kidding. Right?”
Nope.
“Pope Francis has come flat out and said he has no intent to convert evangelicals to Catholicism.”
They’re converting anyway. Also, sinners and heretics do not have to be Evangelicals. Plenty of them are baptized Catholics who have never formally left the Church. There are plenty of Catholics in Europe, America and South America who have returned to a practice of the faith because of Pope Francis.
Torturing them to death is a sure fire way to win souls. It just makes people want to run right back into the warm, living arms of the mother church.
NOT!!!!
Sounds way too much like another world wide major *religion* to me.
But then again, y'all are buddies according to the CCC, so it shouldn't surprise anyone in the least.
Well, then, they're not being converted then, are they?
They may be being reconciled, but if they're already Catholics, they aren't being converted.
“Torturing them to death is a sure fire way to win souls.”
The inquisition tortured no one to death. Torture was used for confessions - as was done in criminal courts in many places of Europe at the time. No confession gained under torture, however, could be used in any criminal trial as proof of guilt.
Ignorance can be avoided but for some reason many Protestants, and all Protestant anti-Catholics, revel in their ignorance about Church history. Apparently being stupid is actually a desired trait among Protestant anti-Catholics.
“Well, then, they’re not being converted then, are they?”
Of course it’s a conversion - a conversion of heart.
“They may be being reconciled, but if they’re already Catholics, they aren’t being converted.”
Technically the same is true of baptized Protestants. If a Lutheran, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Baptist, etc. becomes Catholic it is a “reconciliation” and not an actual “conversion”. “Conversion” is a commonly accepted colloquial term. Once again we see that you apparently are unfamiliar with basic terms and usages. Don’t you claim to be a former Catholic? I thought you have claimed such in the past, but I must be mistaken because surely no one who apparently is this unfamiliar with basic Catholic things would attack the Catholic faith.
