Atheists End Teacher-Led Prayer in Indiana School District

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – A prominent atheist organization has convinced an Indiana school district to end teacher-led prayer at area public schools following a complaint from an anonymous parent.

The Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) contacted the Vigo County School Corporation in Terre Haute last May after receiving a complaint from a parent after teacher Jeffrey Burress at Sarah Scott Middle School allegedly led prayer at an awards banquet.

“Any prayers led by teachers at school-sponsored events must be stopped immediately,” the letter, addressed to Superintendent Daniel Tanoos, read.

What would happen if all the teachers in the county schools simply refused to give up morning prayer? The school board would not fire all of them, and in any case the teacher’s union would not allow such a mass firing to happen. Perhaps this is the place to draw the red line and tell the atheists to (hopefully only metaphorically) go to hell.

There is no solution as long as government schooling exists. The only possible solution is to begin the process of privatizing all schooling.

Why? Answer: Two reasons.

1) Godless government schools aren NOT religiously neutral in content or consequences. In fact, the children must learn to think and reason godlessly just to cooperate in the godless classroom. How could it be otherwise?

And...

2) God-centered government schools aren't religiously neutral, either. Whose religion? What religious texts? Whose religious leaders will be cited? OF course, children of atheists shouldn't be under police threat to subject themselves to a government sanctioned religious worldview.

Fundamentally, government schooling was a bad idea from its very beginnings. **ALL** of them are a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination! ( Yes, I do mean, “all”).

It is impossible to have a religiously neutral education. Such a state of neutrality can not exist in the mind of any sentient human. For this reason government should get completely out of the schooling business.

Solution: Begin the process of privatizing all education in this nation. What is needed is complete separation of school and state.

Fundamentally, government schooling ( whether godless or God-centered) is a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination. It has **always** been an abomination.

God knows and this parent is not anonymous to him. The parent will be dealt with by God.

As will the organization banning the prayer.

Without God, there would be no atheists. They NEED our good Lord to exist.

I truly and simply CANNOT believe that any rational human being can grow up as an atheist.

From what I've read Johnny Carson believed in NOTHING, absolutely nothing. He was an atheist before we brought the word into more common usage.

The 1787 Northwest Ordinance, which predated our constitution, set aside land for schools and declared:

“Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.”

Ignore them and start each day quoting historical prayers by the Founders and those by notable early chaplains.

If this is deemed as state sanctioned religion or one over another, then they must provide such by Muslims or atheists.

This would require a moment of silence.

Frankly, I don’t care for prayers in public school.

Either it is the teachers denominational perspective that comes out or some watered down nonsense approved of by a committee that means nothing.

Do Catholics want their kids lead in prayer by Mormons? Or do evangelicals want a Catholic prayer? It goes on and on….

This is a thought that came to me this morning...
Prayer will be offered for all religions before class.
“ Please line up in the area of your faith...
Christianity... Belief in Jesus Christ...after flag salute, providing that is still permissable, remain on playground to the right designated area...
Muslims....to the left..
Athiests ...please go to the classroom and remain seated.

HA... Betcha the athiest children would opt to stay a extra 5 minutes on the playground!LOL...ALSO it would show just how FEW athiests there really are!
