Updates: I have been provided some background and additional info: Ever since the archdiocese learned of his homily remarks, he has been forbidden to offer public Masses in the NY archdiocese. A letter of complaint has been ldged with his home diocese of Johannesburg, S. Africa, as well as with his nuncio in Pretoria.
Fr. Wylie has been in NYC as a visiting priest for three years. His term at the Holy See's Permanent Observer Mission to the UN was supposed to end in July. Once his remarks got out, he was sent packing immediately; he no longer works there.

Another Catholic priest who wants to get the church back to its roots, what it should be instead of the immoral, corrupted mess it has become, gets the axe.
I guess speaking out against corruption and immorality and lack of fidelity to Catholic teaching isn’t very popular amongst the clergy higher ups.

If there were a commercial enterprise, and an employee was bad-mouthing the boss, he would get canned. Same is true with the military. A homily is not the place for these remarks. A confidential letter to the Cardinal, followed by a request to meet personally, etc., would be appropriate.
Whether you agree or disagree with the remarks is irrelevant. His behavior shows poor pastoral and professional judgement.
So Father’s sermon was spot on! Traditionalists have to travel and beg like gypsies to get a Mass that they seek.
You are comparing the Bride of Christ with secular organizations, which is just plain silly.

You said it. Under the pre-Summorum Pontificum "indult" system, the TLM was available, but strictly limited, and “full sacramental, liturgical and pastoral care” was not provided. Now that there are parishes where the TLM and Traditional Sacraments are offered regularly and where traditional Catholics are building strong communities, they seem to be in the bulls-eye, particularly since the pope smashed the FFI and began making his disparaging comments. In the view of certain bishops, offering the TLM once a month or in hard-to-access places and inconvenient times as a sop to traditional Catholics is sufficient.
What did he do?
I'm only saying that the ground east of NYC is fertile. IMO, the collection basket will bring the point home.

A homily certainly is the place to inform his parishioners of their canonical rights. How would a letter to the Cardinal serve to accomplish this?

That is patently false - as Eastern Catholics prove every day - hence, my reference to their Churches.

Who said there was no Latin Mass? You have done this sort of thing before. I challenged you on exactly this sort of tactic and you failed to meet the challenge. Now, I ask a simple question, “Who said there was no Latin Mass?” Will you fail to meet the challenge by not answering that question?

Sometimes I wonder if Summorum Pontificum was not smoke and mirrors to bring the SSPX (and their numbers and money) back into the fold. Failing that, no reason to keep up the charade.

I agree that a homily can inform the laity of their canonical rights. However, in my opinion, his remarks went too far.
I am not making that comparison literally, but figuratively. Consider the Centurion (Matt 5:9-9).
However, there is order and discipline in the Church and its hierarchy. Priests are helpers of their Ordinary, and should not undermine them, or any way encourage disobedience or disrespect.
It is proper for a priest to inform the congregants of their canonical rights. However, in my opinion, his remarks became disrespectful.
