“700 Club” Errs on Catholic Church and Hitler
http://www.catholicleague.org/ ^ | April 23, 2013 | Bill Donohue

In a segment titled “God and Hitler,” Gordon Robertson (son of Rev. Pat Robertson), hosted a discussion on the Catholic Church’s response to Hitler. Several errors of fact were made.

1) It is wrong to paint Hitler as a Catholic. Though he was baptized, he excommunicated himself, latae sententiae, when he sought, in his words, to “crush [the Catholic Church] like a toad.” He made good on his pledge by persecuting 8,000 priests, over 500 of whom were killed in concentration camps. He also sought to assassinate the pope.

2) The 1933 Nazi-Vatican Concordat was not a show of solidarity. As Rabbi David Dalin has shown, it was a protective measure designed to protect German Catholics from persecution. In fact, at least 34 letters of protest were sent from the Vatican to the Nazis between 1933 and 1937, culminating in a 1937 encyclical that condemned Nazi violations of the Concordat and its racial ideology. It was smuggled out of Italy and distributed on Palm Sunday to Catholics in Germany. Nothing like this happened in Protestant churches in Germany.

3) It is not true that Hitler met resistance from Protestants alone. There are 800,000 trees planted in Israel that represent the 800,000 Jews saved by the Catholic Church. None have been planted as a tribute to Protestants. During the war, the New York Times twice said the Church was “a lonely voice crying out of the silence of a continent”; Albert Einstein also singled out the Church during the war. After the war, Golda Meir praised the work of the Church, as did the ADL, the World Jewish Congress, and scores of other Jewish organizations.

4) It is factually wrong to say the Vatican archives have “never been seen.” Many scholars have had access. As for Pope Pius XII being “Hitler’s Pope,” it should be noted that John Cornwell, the ex-seminarian who originated this term, retracted it years ago. So why does “The 700 Club” continue to cite it?

His own? As were Peter and Paul, who were called. But you seem to be reading yourself into the picture, so to speak.

I KNOW what God does - I follow HIM/His Word and not 'man made teachings'

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

God is love and God had a plan for all but only a few heeded His Voice. And Jesus died for all and not all are saved.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and MANY enter through it. Matt 7:13

"But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and ONLY A FEW find it." Matt 7:14

Our Lord chose certain men by NAME assigned to them the mission of proclaiming the Gospel to the whole world.

Yes, Paul, was chosen and he submitted to The Lord and did proclaim the Gospel to the world and his writings that were inspired are STILL proclaiming the gospel in the world today. Praise God for HIS WORD that lives forever!

And, the evil is loose so the counterfeit proclaims it's 'man made gospel'. So Buyer beware from the 'did God really say?' 'man made teachings' crowd.

God's WORD is The Final Authority.

"No one cares what a Catholic belief is as long as we have the bible to set things straight..."

There are over a billion that care because the Bible and catholic teaching are one.

Between the resurrection and the Ascension Jesus commanded the Apostles to teach all nations all that He had taught them. He told them that He would send a helper (the Paraclete) and that He would be with them all days until the end of the age. It is preposterous to conclude that this commission would be fulfilled by the Apostles writing the New Testament. It is even more preposterous to believe that only four of the Apostles had obeyed God and not a single written word from the others.

It is absolutely bizarre to presume that the Church Jesus founded would have been a teaching Church for it's first fifty years and then only a librarian until the Paraousia. Over centuries and generations languages and circumstances change and someone must answer when every person who truly seeks to know the Word inevitably asks; "What did Jesus mean?".

As we see every day in this forum there was not a word uttered by Christ that has not been met with a great number of diverse interpretations, some intelligent and some extremely attractive, but contradicting each other. How are we to know without a teacher? Even the most ardent Sola Scriptura proponent will concede that they required teacher to teach them to speak a language and a teacher to teach them to read as a prerequisite to encountering the Word.

Peace be with you.

But judging from their actions they rarely know what it means.

And yet the silence remains about your bad popes...

Those who discuss Jesus in the context of was He God or was He man present the wrong premise; He was God AND man.

they DO?

How do you COME by these facts?

A GOD given gift???

Because we are all created in the image of God, God exists in all of us.

I've heard that.

Somewhere early in Genesis I think...

Genesis 1:27

But it seems that didn't last very long:

Genesis 5 (NIV)

1 This is the written account of Adam’s family line. When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created. 3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.

I suppose if things were changed back; whereby men were in GOD's image again; I'm just SURE that someone will point that out...

And you laid It out beautifully, Elsie.

Don't be blaming ME for what is so easily found in the Book!

How many times is Peter’s name in the Bible? How many times are all the other original apostle’s names in the Bible?

I don't know and honestly, I don't care, because it's meaningless. Honestly, Catholics are such respecters of persons, something that is condemned in James, the RCC's favorite book of the Bible.

Even on Resurrection morning, John deferred to Peter to inspect Christ’s tomb first.

That's reading more into the passage than it says. It proves nothing.

If you want to make an argument, it is a better one not to deny how important Simon Peter was but to deny that he had successors.

Huh?

Who cares about successors if what they succeed was a poor foundation?

What is perfectly clear is that Simon was known as “the rock.” was the most prominent of the disciples.

If it's so 'clear'; then why does Scripture belabor the FACT that only GOD is the Rock?

#261 if you've missed it...

There was no blame - but to those who don't know what is in THE Book or even open it - you did it for them.

Do you live as holy a life as St. Francis, who was an ardent Catholic?

Who cares?

I'm in no way going to be compared to him at Judgement time; but to CHRIST.

But the Bible doesn’t support what you say. James was the presiding officer of the Council, but the first twelve chapters of Acts tell us who the more important figure is.

His own? As were Peter and Paul, who were called.

Absolutely! They are His Church and so am I.

But you seem to be reading yourself into the picture, so to speak.

I'm not reading myself into anything, I accepted the call - I heard and obeyed as millions of other 'unnamed' have, also.

His Church is alive and active - as it's belief is on His Word alone as is...."The Word of God is alive and active..."

I can't spend much more time undoing every 'man made teaching' you were taught. I already did that for myself many years ago. So take The Word and spoon fed yourself as your renew your mind to the The Word of God.

Decide not to lean unto your own understanding but by you using the supernatural FAITH of God; He will make His things known to you through His inspired Word as the Holy Spirit is The Teacher.

I believe that might be a non-Catholic belief. Peter did the speaking and was in charge of the Council of Jerusalem.

James also spoke as did Paul and Barnabas. James was the final speaker and made the final decision, not Peter. Read the chapter.

Acts 15:13-29 13 After they finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me. 14 Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name. 15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,

16 “‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, 17 that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things 18 known from of old.’

19 Therefore my [that is James speaking] judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, 20 but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. 21 For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”

22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers, 23 with the following letter: “The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings. 24 Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions, 25 it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: 29 that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

Peter was in charge of nothing. He spoke as did others named and unnamed. Nobody said ANYTHING about deferring to him nor did Scripture record him as being in charge.

After all, Our Lord chose some men to be more important than others, and Peter the most important of those.

Oh??

Mark 10:37
They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory."

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

You seem to believe quite a few “man-taught doctrines although you seem unaware of the fact. Heretics always think they are originals.
