How about being straight up and saying that Mormons put on costumes and chant rituals in secret buildings that only 10% of gross earnings paid as "tithes" allow entrance?
Mormonism wants people to think they are normal that they are just Christians like everyone else. Each year they get rid of more and more of their embarrassing doctrines - or doctrines that aren't politically correct anymore. Apologist attack dogs fight any critics on technicalities.
Mormonism has one thing that works for them - and that is the funneling of cash from members to the Cult coffers. This is done through mandatory tithe. And in order to make this tithe work - and make the member believe in the Cult enough to pay - they have to have the secret temple ceremonies. You have to put a ton of make believe in there.
Stephen R. Donaldson is one of my favorite authors. In one of his series of books he explained how a great and noble group of leaders were slowly corrupted through the centuries by simple infiltration of ideas. The ideas changed the group slowly until they went from helping people to human sacrifices. The new leaders of the group knew what was going on - but they surrounded themselves with those who only had faith - not knowledge. Those who had faith were much stronger because they were driven by the new cult. Those who held faith were much easier to control.
Pondering the story Donaldson had written I saw the same manifested in the Cult of Mormonism. If you have members who are so convinced you are the one and only true Cult, they will not hesitate to open their pocketbooks and hand over everything. Mormonism needs this kind of special, secret, garment wearing, new name, pay lay ale - in order to keep the tithes flowing. If the cat is out of the bag, the tithing will stop.
So the reality is there is a certain point where Mormonism must stop moving towards Christianity - it has to because money is ultimately the top priority of the Cult. Money - Power - Control.
Look at all the recovery boards right now - even the NOM boards. What is the #1 topic right now because of upcoming December? Tithing. Tithing. Tithing. Oh and don't forget tithing. Sign up for tithing settlement. And don't forget to sign up for tithing settlement.

Naw, Mormonism isn't a Christian church. It's a secretive Cult with very cultish practices and it has to stay that way - or go broke.

#1...the pages had been in the possession of the Martin Harris family...If that family wasn't trustworthy, then that would explain why Martin Harris' name is signed in the Book of Mormon intro under the "Testimony of the Three Witnesses." Obviously, he wasn't a very trustworthy character.
#2 ... If I had the "original" of something...it doesn't matter what somebody might alter. If it came down to somebody altering something, we could go back to the original and say, "See...it doesn't say what you've made it out to be."
#3... As an add-on to what Godzilla mentioned re: the 3,000 plus changes in the Book of Mormon...seems like the "real" "conspiring men" who wound up altering the translation were "inside men"...unknown Book of Mormon editors who made THOUSANDS of changes to the Book of Mormon text!
An "abridged" account...As if God would have trouble knowing the 116 pages would be lost and couldn't ensure there was a "fuller" version...like a "Luke" version to go with a "Matthew" version.

Well, Delf, if you asked me to "pray about" the Book of Mormon...the response is, "Which one? The one that Smith produced...or the heavily edited version which has replaced Smith's version?"
Actually, we don’t use the Joseph Smith translation because the Copyright is owned by the RLDS, and since we don’t have a complete track an any changes they may have made, we won’t use it.
So God told Joseph Smith to "translate" the Bible (from the King James English version)...and now that version is unreliable and untrustworthy, eh?
So the mainstream Mormon church then essentially disobeyed God to have this version reproduced, right?
Sorry, but you're quite incomplete in teaching the official version of Mormonism on this...you say NOTHING of "the spirit world" in your response...plus you make it all out to be two things (paradise and spirit prison)...when Joseph Smith taught both of these were "one"...the world of spirits!

Those in Paradise can go on missions to to spirit prison, they teach everybody the Gospel...

Generally speaking, a quick review of someone’s posting history will tell you if they are an anti or not.
Well, we don't have the luxury of being able to check how often an Lds missionary has used the phrasing of "apostasy" and "restoration."
But knowing how commonly it's used (see post #322 for details), that indeed makes Lds missionaries out to be "anti-Christian" ... they are against us within the Christian sects...
Free Republic is a pro-God site. The one and only true Judeo-Christian God as taught to us by KJV with no additional editing or books of fiction. I have zero faith in Joseph Smith or his so-called Mormon religion and do not want it taught on FR as gospel. Joe Smith was a false prophet and his book is false gospel (look it up in KJV). Those who cannot live with that are certainly free to post elsewhere.

The ONLY ones of the PROPHETS who SOME contend were polygamists were Abraham and Moses...except that nobody minus Sarah references her servant as a "wife" (not Abraham; not the Angel of the Lord; not Moses; not the apostle Paul in the book of Galatians...they all reference her as a servant of Sarah, NOT as Abraham's "wife"...)
And Moses had more than one wife, but it's not evidential that they lived as wives at the same time.
