While Noah will likely always remain the first name in arks, tourists are chomping at the bit to climb aboard Johans Ark, an ambitious re-creation of the biblical boat thats attracting gawkers galore along a waterfront shipyard in Dordrecht, a city in the western Netherlands.
Dutch builder Johan Huibers is expected to complete work on the massive vessel sometime next month in what has been a staggeringly ambitious project to bring one of the best-known stories of the Bible to life. Its taken three years of his life and $1.6 million out of his pocket, but Huibers, owner of a successful construction company in Holland, says the project is a dream come true literally.
I dreamed a part of Holland was flooded, Huibers, 60, told Janet Shamlian in a report that aired on TODAY Wednesday. Then, the next day I get the idea to build an ark of Noah.

Moved out here to rural Maryland 17 years ago. Not far from here, off the freeway, there’s a sign indicating the recreation of Noah’s Ark. Zero progress has been made in all of that time. What an embarrassment!
“so I spit on him!”
Gold.
Mr. Cosby became a strange sort of figure — so correct on demanding that the Black community police itself and create values in support of America and success, but so liberal in many many ways.
But isn’t it amazing that his material is still funny 40 years later? Most comedy today isn’t even funny 40 minutes later.
I still die laughing watching “Bill Cosby: Himself”, when he talks about going to the dentist.
Man...that's a lot of work...
It doesn’t look like it will float.. huge boat and 1/2 inch thick planks on the outside?
RINSE!
I have all the Cosby Albums on my Ipod. My 9-year old son loves listening to them. The Noah skit is his favorite as was mine when I was his age.
Still hilarious without being disgusting and vulgar.
I love the “Lone Ranger” bit.
That’s what I was going to mention. Beat me to it.
I’m pretty sure a cubit is the measurement from your fingertips to your elbow.
Some may ask why on TOP? Because GOD instructed Noah to LOOK UP to HIM in heaven for trust and praise, so GOD instructed Noah to build ONE window on TOP. Any other configuration is simply man's viewpoint horizontal platonic fashion, e.g., looking horizontal around, not up to GOD for trust and praise.
Some may simply say, oh, what's the difference...where the windows are located. Yeah, and those who have this viewpoint probably never look up to GOD for all their trust, like Noah did.
I dreamed a part of Holland was flooded,
Parts of Holland are flooded?
That’s a wild dream.
Ri-i-i-ght!
From the photos, it is built atop steel barge.
Me, too, when I think of having "My libbbbbbit in my labbbbbbit..."
With modern power tools it took over 300 man-years of labor to build each of the Ark 'replicas'.
