Apparitions Exposed!
Proclaiming the Gospel ^ | former Director for a "Mary, Queen of Peace Center."

Posted on 04/12/2011 7:55:27 AM PDT by bkaycee

Can a born again Christian be a member of a cult and be involved in idol worship? I once thought this was an impossibility until it happened to me. Now I understand why Jesus warned us that, in the end times, there would be an appearance of great signs and miracles that would deceive even the elect, if possible. I confess I have been seduced by signs and miracles associated with apparitions of Mary, and I offer my testimony so others may be warned and delivered.

Until recently I was serving as Director of Public Relations for the Queen of Peace Center in Dallas, Texas. This non-profit organization disseminates information and messages from Marian apparitions in Medjugorje and around the world. I co-authored a full page ad that was published in the June 25, 1993, Dallas Morning News at a cost of $10,000. This add announced "Mary's" prescription for peace and listed locations of her recent appearances. It also listed phone numbers to call for up-to-day recorded messages of Mary's latest apparitions, such as the one in Dallas (214) 233-MARY. I once thought it was special to be the only non-Catholic on the Queen of Peace board . . . that is, until I met Mike Gendron and his wife, Jane.

A Divine Appointment

Neighbors and close friends of mine knew I was seriously contemplating becoming Roman Catholic. They told me that Mike had been a Roman Catholic for 37 years and was now a pastor at a non-denominational church in the Dallas area. They said he understood many of the issues involved in being Roman Catholic and could help me with my decision. I looked forward to meeting both Mike and his wife, not for my sake, but for theirs. I felt certain the information I had collected about "Our Lady's apparitions" in Medjugorje would surely lead them back home to the "true" (Roman Catholic) church. Providentially it appeared, I attended a Queen of Peace board meeting the night before we met and asked the board to pray for this lost pastor and his wife, who had fallen away. When I arrived at their door the next morning, I first introduced myself, before returning to my car for the large stack of books and newspapers I had brought to persuade them. The materials would help explain what was happening in Medjugorje and how the Virgin Mary would help change their lives.

Confronted by Contradictions

After we met, they showed me a film titled Catholicism: Crisis of Faith. This film lovingly and objectively contrasted how the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church contradicts the teachings of the Sacred Scriptures. Mike would stop the film after each segment for my questions and comments. Initially, I was argumentative and felt uneasy and rather adamant about what I was witnessing. Mike realized he had forgotten to pray before starting the film and asked if we could ask God to make His truth clear, and that all deception would be exposed. After the prayer my whole countenance changed.

Each question I asked, Mike validated his answers using Vatican II documents and an official Roman Catholic catechism. It was amazing to me how Roman Catholic teaching contradicts the very Word of God. Question after question, he would bring the Bible over to me and knell to show me verses in context. His servant's demeanor and patient, understanding heart helped in unraveling falsehood after falsehood. There wasn't a question I could have asked him that would have provoked anger. As a reflection of our Lord, this man allowed Jesus to pull the scales away from my eyes.

There were three things in the film and our discussion that were most alarming to me. First, a church in South America has Mary placed on a crucifix rather than Christ. It reminded me of my visit to Our Lady of Guadeloupe Cathedral in downtown Dallas where Mary is positioned as the focal point at the alter and the crucifix is placed in another part of the church. These two scenes made me realize idolatry is practiced within the church.

Second, the Roman Catholic Catechism by Rev. William Cogan, now in its 44th year of print, has altered the 10 commandments of God. The 2nd commandment given to Moses reads, "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or in the earth beneath or in the water under the earth" (Exodus 20:4). The Roman Catholics have deleted this commandment but still came up with ten by splitting the 10th one into two separate commands. "You shall not covet your neighbor's good; and you shall not covet your neighbor's wife" (Exodus 20:17). I was reminded of the scriptural warnings for those who add to or subtract from the Bible.

Third, Mike told me the only place in the Bible in which the queen of heaven was referred to was in the Book of Jeremiah. He encouraged me to study the passage and it would expose another false doctrine concerning Mary. Anyone who is familiar with the prayers and meditations of the rosary can tell you that in one of the mysteries Christ supposedly crowned Mary the queen of heaven after she was assumed into heaven. Neither of these events have scriptural validity, but I had decided to blindly accept these doctrines because all of the other meditations on the life of Christ were verified by Scripture.

The Queen of Heaven

After returning home, I looked in the Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible for the passage in Jeremiah 44. Here, the Lord was angered by the wickedness of the people choosing to serve other gods. The people refused to listen to the Lord. Instead, they would "burn sacrifices to the Queen of Heaven and pour out libations to her." The woman "made for her sacrificial cakes in her image and poured out libations to her?" (Jeremiah 44:17, 19).

In Hebrew the word for queen has reference to "the heavenly handiwork" or "the stars of heaven." The reference might be to Ishtar, the goddess of love and fertility, who is identified with the Venus Star and is actually entitled "Mistress of Heaven." (The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, p. 975)

My head was spinning and filled with questions after reading this. Doesn't Mary usually appear with stars for her crown? Who then is the woman in Revelation 12:3-6? And most importantly, why would the Roman Catholic Church give the mother of Jesus the title of a pagan goddess? Had I been promoting the ministry of a pagan goddess whose messages were inconsistent with the Bible? Indeed her messages do contradict the Bible. In fact, she speaks of another gospel, another plan of salvation that nullifies and opposes the all sufficient sacrifice of Jesus. The apparition of Fatima said, "You have seen Hell where the souls of poor sinners go, so save them, God wishes to establish in the world, devotion to my Immaculate Heart." The apostle Paul condemned anyone, even an angel from heaven, who would dare preach a different way to be saved other than through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ (Galatians 1:6-10).

As for the woman described in Revelation, she is not Mary, the mother of Jesus, but God's chosen people, the Jews. When the passage in chapter 12 is read in context with the rest of the book, and Genesis 37:9-10, this clearly refers to the nation Israel. God fulfills His promise to the Jews, by protecting them in the desert during 3 1/2 years of tribulation.

I later realized my prayers to Mary and the saints, the reciting of rosaries and chaplets of divine mercy, and the wearing of Marian medals and scapulars had taken my focus off of Jesus. I had allowed doctrines of the Roman Catholic church to do the very thing Saint Paul warned against, "But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ." (2 Cor. 11:3).

An Angel of Light

Recently, a person whom I love dearly, and who has a "Marian devotion" asked me, "Why are you bothering the people who are already good people instead of worrying about those who are lost?" The answer came to me the other evening as the Lord continues to guide me through His sacred Word. Saint Paul wrote that "Satan masquerades as an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14). We know the mother of Jesus would never oppose her Son, and since the apparitions do just that, they could very well be Satan masquerading as Mary. Saint Paul also wrote, "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them . . . everything exposed by the light becomes visible" (Ephesians 5:11-14). Therefore, I feel called to expose these attempts by the evil one to divert people's devotion away from Jesus. The most authoritative way to do this is with the light of God's Holy Word. My new test for truthfulness is -- if it does not agree with the Scriptures then it must be rejected.

Freedom in the Truth

Now that I have torn down the altar in my bedroom, where I knelt and prayed to St. Anthony of Padua each night, and now that I have placed my rosaries, scapular and medals away, I have found a new freedom. The truth really does set people free! I have found special peace in knowing Jesus alone is my Savior, and not co-redemptrix with His mother. The Holy Spirit continues to lead me into all truth and is now the only teacher I need (1 John 2:27).

To all my precious friends who I have encouraged to seek Mary and to obey the misleading messages of her apparitions, I pray these Scriptures would minister to you -- "And it came about while He said these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, 'Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts at which you nursed.' But He said, 'On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the Word of God and observe it." (Luke 11:27-28)

Actually, the Whore of Babylon is more like your OPC/PCA group with it's spouting of hatred for all

For a Christian to join the OPC, he must reject all of God's teachings and stop being a follower of Christ and become a follower of Calvin.

For Calvin teaches that one does not need to believe in Christ but one is part of an elite brahmin caste.

To become a member of the OrthodoPresbyterian Cult, one must throw out scripture and adopt the 14-page excerpted version of scripture with the colored pictures that the OPC believes in.

To become a member of the Orthodo PresbyterianCult, one must Acording to the OPC OrthoPresbyterianC: "Christians should not celebrate the Seder or other Jewish festivals. "

The followers of Machen, the OPC, disregard scripture where it calls men to repent, have faith, convert, and persevere. Instead they insist on some kind of non-scriptural preservation which is not only non-scriptural but also disagrees with the beliefs of their hero, St. Augustine who believed in perseverance of the saints, not preservation. Augustine did not believe in Calvin's understanding of the "perseverance of the saints,"

the OPC's theory that man can never lose his salvation, no matter what he does, so when they read 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and Galatians 5:19-21 the OPC believes that if anyone commits any such sin, there is no repentence for the followers of Calvin. Their deity will not take repentence, so the followers of Calvin will say that the person never was Christian at all!

To answer, they twist their weasel-words as

First between true and false conversion. The Bible recognizes that not everyone who says he believes in Christ really does
Voilą! (by the way, that means "see there" in French) -- the followers of Calvin-Machen use their rubber dictionaries to say "Oh, they never were Christian in the first place!"

And some more beauties of the OPC fate
Salvation of Infants Who Die

The Confession entertains the idea that at least some infants who die in infancy and some others "who are incapable of being outwardly called" are among the elect.

However, the Confession does not say that all such infants, etc., are saved.
The OPC believes that God pre-damns infants to eternal hell. This isn't the Christian God of Love.

To become a member of the OPC, one must deny the scriptures like Ezekiel 33 that says
12 “Therefore, son of man, say to your people, ‘If someone who is righteous disobeys, that person’s former righteousness will count for nothing. And if someone who is wicked repents, that person’s former wickedness will not bring condemnation. The righteous person who sins will not be allowed to live even though they were formerly righteous.

13 If I tell a righteous person that they will surely live, but then they trust in their righteousness and do evil, none of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered; they will die for the evil they have done.

14 And if I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ but they then turn away from their sin and do what is just and right—

15 if they give back what they took in pledge for a loan, return what they have stolen, follow the decrees that give life, and do no evil—that person will surely live; they will not die.

16 None of the sins that person has committed will be remembered against them. They have done what is just and right; they will surely live.

To be an OPC cult-member, one needs to hate Pentecostals and Methodists, followers of Arminianism and say that they follow a "damnable heresy"

To become a member of the OPC cult, one needs to abandon scripture which says
John 4:42 describes Christ as "the Savior of the world,"
1 John 2:2 Christ "is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world."
1 Timothy 4:10 God is "the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe."

To become a member of the Orthodo Presbyterian Cult one must learn to hate and worship the CalvinGod of hate and reject Jesus Christ, the God of Love

This is an excellent study by MarkBsnr on why the OPC is not Christian
Let us take the Nicene Creed and compare with the OPC's beliefs:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen and unseen.

So far, the OPC is on track.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.

Well, not really; they think of Jesus as a lesser God than the Father. The OPC says that:

Jesus is God's doorway through the wall. God appointed his Son to be the substitute for those whom he would save. Jesus loved the Father with every fiber of his being. He obeyed the Father's holy will completely. He died on Calvary's cross as the atoning sacrifice, bearing all the sins of his people. He rose again from the dead and was exalted to the place of glory at the Father's side.

For the OPC, Jesus is a lesser or messenger god to God the Father, much like Mercury was the messenger of Jupiter in the Roman Pantheon of gods. This is not Christian.

As well, The OPC says that:

Christ is, in reality, the one true worshiper.[5] Our worship is a participation in his. Further, our worship in Christ is by the Holy Spirit.

Here, the OPC says that Christ worships God the Father, and the Holy Spirit worships Christ. Not Trinitarian, but polytheist.

Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary,

Here, they more or less agree with Christianity.

and became man.

Here, they depart from Christianity inasmuch as Christianity believes that Jesus is fully God and fully man at the same time.

The OPC says:

"The Son of Man"

Jesus affirms that he is "the Son of Man." This was his favorite self-designation. The Gospels mention his calling himself the Son of Man some eighty times. William White, Jr., explains that this title reflects Daniel 7:13, where the "Son of Man" is one to whom is given universal and eternal authority, glory, and sovereign dominion. He is one from among men to whom is given divine prerogatives. Since only God can receive such prerogatives, the Son of Man is a God-man (Daniel 10:16). Thus, the Son of Man, Jesus, descended from heaven (John 3:13) and was dependent on God, as He had nowhere to lay His head (Matt. 8:20). He exercises an authoritative and redemptive mission (John 3:14). He is the universal Lord (Matt. 28:18; cf. Dan. 7:13-14) and has total responsibility and authority for judging the world (Matt. 13:41-42; 19:28). (Theological and Grammatical Phrasebook of the Bible, p. 102 [Moody Press, 1984]. Cf. Geerhardus Vos, The Self-Disclosure of Jesus [Eerdmans, 1954].)

So when Jesus calls himself the Son of Man, he does much more than identify himself as having a human nature. He reveals himself as God incarnated as the Last Adam, the true Man, the Man of God's right hand, the Messiah, the King, the Savior, Lord, and Judge! Compare Daniel 7:9-14 and Revelation 1:12-18. It's an amazing claim.

It sure is. It affirms that the OPC believes that Jesus is a lesser God - is totally dependent upon God and therefore is not the God of Christianity, but a messenger or harbinger, much like John the Baptist was for Jesus.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

Okay in this section.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

Here we come to a major parting of the ways between the OPC and Christianity. The OPC says that:

The resurrection of the dead in general, therefore, is primarily a judicial act of God."[13] Stated simply, the resurrection is not the penultimate event prior to the final judgment; the resurrection is the final judgment.

This little piece of paganism is the source for so many of the nonChristian pronouncements of OPC adherents. Can you imagine a greater departure from the Gospel message of Jesus? Resurrection is a replacement for Judgement and if you are resurrected, you will not go to hell!!!! Now, what about those going to hell? More on that later...

and his kingdom will have no end.

They do agree that Jesus will reign forever.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

See above. The OPC believes that Jesus worships God the Father and the Holy Spirit worships Jesus.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

The OPC really likes its Prophets - if it weren't for Paul, their theology would consist of Isaiah with a splash of Jeremiah.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

Absolutely not. "Catholic" is redefined as Calvinist, and the Apostles are irrelevant since they are all long dead.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

The OPC touches on it in several articles on their site, blathering on, and talking around the point, rather than to it, but the final conclusion is that they do not believe that baptism is in any way connected with the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

There are several articles on the OPC website which affirm the resurrection of the dead, and then speak as if it weren't there or it didn't matter. Of course, it might just be the writers' confusion over just who is going to be resurrected (prejudged to salvation) and who isn't (see above). After all if the Calvinists believe that the act of resurrection is a substitute for the Judgement of God, then nobody in hell gets Judged in the Calvinist universe, right? And nowhere in Christianity does it state anything about the resurrection of those Judged to Heaven versus the non resurrection of those Judged to hell. In Calvinism, those prejudged to hell do not get resurrected at all. Cronos, my friend, you are absolutely spot on in that the OPC on its own website brags about its nonChristian beliefs. And its followers would have us believe that it is Christian. Based on what?

The main problem with the OPC/PCA point of view is that according to them, God’s not satisfied with damning a person before the beginning of creation, but after the person is dead, he’d have to resurrect him and tell him, “I’m going to punish you in hell forever because you perfectly—though you had no choice—followed the plan I set out for you since before the beginning of the world, all for my good pleasure and greater glory.” That’s just perverse piling on. And again we have to ask, “Glory before whom?” If all is created by God and determined by God, then there is no other “who” before whom glory, to whatever degree, is to be manifest and no context within which glory would even have any meaning. The whole thing is nothing more than an audience of one, the sound of that one’s hands clapping. Even Zen makes more sense than that.

f
The OPC (OrthodoPresbyterian C) and PCA (Presbyterian C in America) attack on America and Christianity
preaching hatred against Pentecostals from the OPC doctrinal website
It will be noted that the Confession sharply contradicts the view popularized today by the neo-Pentecostal movement. In essence this view would have us believe that we can have the same charismatic gifts that we read about in the age of the Apostles - such as prophecy, speaking in tongues, and healing - today.

This is a very serious error. In essence it is a result of a failure to grasp the Biblical teaching concerning the history of salvation.

preaching hatred against Lutherans Calling them all liberals and accusing them of not teaching what Martin Luther taught
preaching hatred against Pentecostals and Methodists: From the opc doctrinal website:
. Are Arminian (Methodists, Pentecostals, Baptist etc) preachers heretics? yes
. Is Arminianism (Methodism, Pentecostalism, Baptists) a damnable heresy? Yes.
. the teachings of Arminianism are contrary to Scripture, they are manifestly false. They are serious perversions of the gospel of Jesus Christ
(accusing Methodists, Pentecostals, etc. who disagree with Calvin of preaching a gospel of Satan
preaching hatred against Methodists "John Wesley preached Universal Infant Damnation for unbaptized infants "; accusing Methodists of preaching a Gospel of Satan"
preaching hatred against Judaism Acording to the OPC OrthoPresbyterianC: "Christians should not celebrate the Seder or other Jewish festivals. " and saying that the Jews are notr the chosen people
preaching hatred and evil against Christians martyred by Moslems in the Middle East Condemning Shabhaz Bhatti to hell as he was not an OPC/PCA member
preaching hatred against Adventists The Adventists are a cult that is as dangerous as the Jehovahs Witnesses or the Mormons

The very “sound of that one’s hands clapping” (emanating from the chambers of Quix and metmom and others here at FR) led me to ask them why they appear to favor self-sects when they have probably experienced other more fulfilling sects.

I will quibble with you:

Would you agree that never used to “think” what he thought, rather you used to unthinkingly “accept” what such people still unthinkingly accept?

For once you actually “thought” about such statements you rejected them as baseless and contrary to all facts?

“Recently, a person whom I love dearly, ... asked me, ‘Why are you bothering the people who are already good people instead of worrying about those who are lost?’”

Did you tell your friend that “good people” can also
be “lost” people. Being good doesn’t get a person to Heaven.

Isaiah 64:6 (KJV) But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

Romans 3:10 (KJV) As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Actually, seemingly good people are often the most difficult to realize their need for salvation because they are... well... good. Acts of goodness don’t rescue people from Hell; it’s salvation and a personal relationship with Christ.

(I like the ee cummings version better.)

The homophony is are the word,”Think,” correcto?
Yeah,I “thought” in these senses:
I accepted what my elders told me. (I was a science nut as a 7 - 8 year old, especially astronomy. So the big bad Catholics were very big and bad because they were mean to Galileo, etc.)
AND I “thought” in that I accepted all the what you might call cultural propositions, rarely expressed and when expressed, expressed vaguely, about Catholicism.

AND I had the general western ignorance about what happened in the world after Jesus. It was like this:
OLD Testament
Julius Caesar
Augustus
Jesus
Paul ‘n stuff
Augustine
Islam
Luther
Henry VIII
[LOTS and LOTS of details down to the present]

Several things conspired to waken me from my dogmatic slumber.
In 5th grade I heard about Socrates, and our fifth grade teacher was a Ph.D. student in logic at Columbia and a GREAT GUY! So I (sounding like pedantic Descartes here) became devoted to training my mind, to THINKING, as opposed to musing and kicking stuff around.

But it wasn’t until years after the first time I read Dante that I began to begin to try to have a clue about history from 300 - 1500, and, I’m ashamed to say, not until VERY recently that I began to feel like I had a grip on it.

A friend of mine who is involved with a think tank devoted to the Declaration in current affairs turned me on to some of the other contributors to modern legal and political thought, while Dominicans turned me on to Montesinos and de las Casas and helpedme understand that, even though Albertus Magnus believed in alchemy, his commitment to the empirical method, and that of other medieval thinkers, was the critical undergirding of the scientific side of the renaissance.

It’s too early to be this verbose.

So I’ll quibble back, in the manner of Socrates: I WAS thinking. I was thinking very poorly. But it was thought, just a lousy instantiation of thought.

Sorry, I’m babbling. There seems to be something blocking the access of caffeine to my cerebral cortex.

“Ut unum sunt: why there will be no sects in heaven”

For they are like the angels ..." being of one mind.

This morning I have learned in another venue the following:

(1) Insulting, mocking, derogatory, and unreasonable discourse is proper for Muslims to use against Christians, because Muslims are right and Christian wrong.

(2)Insulting, mocking, derogatory, and unreasonable discourse is OUTRAGEOUSLY IMPROPER for Christians to use against Muslims, because Muslims are right and Christian wrong.

(3)Besides, the Christians started it.

(4) The ONLY acceptable outcome is for the Christians to humble themselves (and to know themselves to have been humbled) before the Muslims, and either convert or live (and converse) under very "strait" restrictions.

(5)While there may be moderate Muslims who can contemplate peaceful coexistence with Christians, when the 'division' becomes apparent between Muslim and Christian, the moderate Muslims will side with the radicals against the Christians.

You know what substitutions to make to depict what goes on here on the RF. More importantly, you know what attitudes to be on guard against lest we become like Muslims.

I think somewhere in here, toward the end, we see the dreadful and bloody reductio ad absurdum of the nominalist and voluntarist theology. Their resolution to the Euthyphro dilemma, namely "If God wills it, it is good on that account alone,' makes room for a dualistic and sundered world and heilsgeschichte, and permits the shattering of all moral norms in the pursuit of victory for God.

..... Which is almost an essay on one good reason to be a Catholic.
