Catholic Cleric: Jesus Cancelled Biblical ‘Chosen People’
Israel National News ^ | 15 Heshvan,5771 (October 23, 2010) | Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

The Creator’s promise in the Bible that the Promised Land belongs to the Jewish People is no longer valid is, a Catholic synod declared. An American archbishop at the Synod explained Saturday that the promise of the Creator was "abolished by the presence of Christ."

In a decision that is bound to set off a furious reaction from many Jewish leaders, the synod concluded that “recourse to theological and biblical positions which use the Word of God to wrongly justify injustices is not acceptable.”

However, an implicitly contradictory Synod statement also declared, “The same Scriptures unite us; the Old Testament, the Word of God is for both you and us... We believe in the promises of God and his covenant given to Abraham and to you. We believe that the Word of God is eternal.”

The Catholic church in recent years has been trying to overcome centuries of anti-Semitism and proof that it exploited the Holocaust to try to convert Jews who were saved.

Sigh. I wish for once people would learn to be precise in their theology. All the promises of the Old Testament are *fulfilled* in Christ, not “abolished.” There is a HUGE difference.

And using the Bible for political correctness is absurd.

That land belongs to the Jewish people because they were there first.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The Abrahamic Covenant is UNCONDITIONAL.

Christians need to be careful and better studied.

If the Lord’s promises to the Jews can be broken, ALL His promises can.

One more reason I am not a catholic. They distort and twist the promises in the Tanak that were always meant for the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Never has the following quote from Seinfeld seemed more appropriate:

Kramer: Hey, stay away from the chicken, bad chicken, mess you up.

Seth: That's not going to be good for business.

Jerry: That's not going to be good for anybody.
I think the abp had one of those "hold my beer and watch this" moments.

Even if you completely ignore the Biblical perspective, they still have the right to the land. The British were granted the land by treaty after WWI from the Ottomans. The British helped create the national of Israel after the second world war.

Born again believers, those whose God-given faith, of a poor and contrite heart, (Ps. 34:18) is counted for righteousness, not by any merit of their church or their good works, though the latter follows true faith, are the “Israel of God,” (Gal. 6:16) being accepted in the Beloved,” (Eph. 1:6) but the “natural branches” are yet “beloved for the father’s sake,” and there is a yet future reversing of their curse of blindness, and so “all Israel shall be saved,” (Rm. 11:26,28) as what is left of Israels joins the redeemed Israel of God in faith: http://peacebyjesus.witnesstoday.org/israel-chosenorforgotten.html,

Yah'shua personally lived a life obeying all of His Law.

The blood of unblemished Passover Lamb covers all of our sins.

It had nothing to do with promises fulfilled or abolished.

.Right on! I may be a Catholic, but I still believe that the Jews are the chosen people. God is not some fickleminded Deity who changes His Mind just because He did not get what He wanted from His people the first time around.

seems to be working for the Evil One, preparing the

U.S. archbishop Cyril Salim Bustros, a Lebanese native who heads the commission that issued the Synod statement, told reporters, "For Christians, one can no longer talk of the land promised to the Jewish people… There is no longer a favored people, a chosen people; all men and women of every country have become the chosen people.”

After two weeks of meetings, the Synod also said that a two-state solution of a Palestinian Authority country, in place of most of the Land Israel, would help stem the exodus of Christians from the area.

Sadly, the Archbishop is turning a blind eye to Islam ....

There is sacrilege within the church. Denying the efficacy of the Word of God is sacrilege.

An American archbishop at the Synod explained Saturday that the promise of the Creator was "abolished by the presence of Christ."

Are we to believe that the Lord God abolishes His Word? Surely this priest is no Christian. Nor is he a follower of the Lord. Such contempt is an outrage.

Let the Pope condemn this synod and defrock the demonic priests who perpetuate such slander.

Poor dope. Christ was the one who gave the word to Abraham.

If anyone wonders if God still wants Israel to exist, read about the Seven Day War. They should have been wiped out, except the hand of God spared them. Again and again they have been rescued since becoming a nation.

An Israeli newspaper telling us what a "synod" allegedly said without actually being able to quote anything except what an American archbishop (did they even name him?) said?

I certainly turn to L'Osservatore Romano when I want to know the full skinny on the decisions of the Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem. I mean, who would know better how to interpret issues of Jewish law and theology than a bunch of Italian Catholics? This business of people speaking for themselves is highly overrated. Primary sources? Who needs 'em! /s

BTW, what difference does it make to the Israelis what Catholics think about their right to the land? In a fair fight, I think the IDF would take the Swiss Guard pretty easily, and possession is still 9/10ths of the law.

The Israelis have a much bigger problem: their most significant ally is governed by a Muslim sympathizer who hates them. (Did I mention that he's a bought-and-paid-for stooge of a secular self-hating Jew who collaborated with the Nazis [George Soros]?) If the Israelis ought to be losing sleep over anything, they ought to be losing sleep over that.

Paid by Hezbollah or what else. On a side note, that exodus would stop, period, because dead people don’t walk.

Of all the tribes living in that area only the Hebrews listened to G-d, that’s why they’re called “The Chosen People” (G-d chose them for that reason) and the land (Israel) was given to them in perpetuity ....
