I am sorry Glenn but I cannot join you

I really like Glenn Beck. Though I have never met him in person, I have often watched his television programs and thought it would be so nice to have that kind of a guy as a friend. I imagine that he is far too busy and way too inaccessible for that to become a reality, but I do genuinely like the man. He is insightful, articulate, funny, and seems to want some great things for his family and our nation. I do think that sometimes he has one or two conspiracy theories that may not be fully justified - we shall see - but all in all, Glenn seems to be a really nice guy.

I share many of the same goals as Glenn. I speak as one born in England but now very much a U.S. citizen. All my children were born here in these United States and I live and pray for America to become in all reality, "one nation under God." I love America. I sincerely believe Glenn does too.

But I do have a problem - not a problem with him as a person in any way at all, but when he asks me to join him in praying for the very same things I wish for my country, I just cannot. I can pray for these things privately, and with fellow Christians, of course, and I do. I just cannot stand with Glenn in a public setting and be comfortable while I know he is praying to a false god. How could I ever say "Amen" at the end of his prayer that people would turn back to the god he serves? I just cannot do it. That is because Glenn Beck is a Mormon. The "god" he prays to is not in any way the same God as mine.

I know.. I know.. even saying this is politically and religiously incorrect, but I cannot help but say it. When Glenn Beck speaks of "god" we need to remember that he uses a different dictionary to Christians. The God of the Bible is One in essence and eternally exists in three co-equal Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Mormons reject this completely, believing that there are many worlds controlled by different gods and the god of this planet was once a man. The Jesus of Mormonism is the begotten offspring of this exalted man in sexual union with one of his many wives, and this god lives on a planet circling a star named Kolob, and his "gospel" is the message of how you, too, can be exalted to godhood. Christianity is Monotheistic. Mormonism is the most polytheistic religion in the world. Doctrine matters folks and deceived people, deceive people!

A dear fellow Christian, in coming to understand where I am on this issue wrote to me today saying, "I like Glenn Beck and appreciate his effort to bring America back to her godly roots. He is doing a great job in uniting government, church, and media. He does speak from a Mormon perspective but still has a heart of seeing America return to God even though he might not have the same theological view as we do."

I responded by saying, " I understand you - but I cannot agree that Mormonism is in any way "godly." According to the Bible, there is nothing at all godly about false religion. Godliness is not just about acts of service, honor, integrity, courage and the like, as wonderful as these things are, but it also includes worship of the One true God and the avoidance of all forms of idolatry. Mormonism is idolatrous worship and when Glenn Beck prays, despite his intentions, he prays to a false god who cannot help either Mr. Beck or America."

I can remember reading about the worshippers of the golden calf. They had high family values and were absolutely sincere in their worship. Now I may not be the sharpest tool in the drawer, but I do tend to get the distinct impression that God didn't like the worship - yeah, the ground opening up and swallowing the worshippers.. hmmm... it does lead me to believe that God was somehow ticked, wouldn't you say?

And then I wonder what God would feel about a "prophet" in the Old Testament asking Baal to bring Israel back to its godly roots. I think in such times, he would be stoned. In Deuteronomy 18:20 God says to His people, "But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die."

God often tested His people by seeing if they would be true to Him even as false prophets tried to lure them away from Himself. God says, "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him. But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst" (Deuteronomy 13:1-5).

Thank God for grace!!! (we don't stone false prophets now) but I believe God's feelings about false worship have not changed. As Glenn Beck calls this nation to pray for some very valuable, important and even vital things, I ask now, is God testing us in the same way today? Perhaps God has raised Glenn Beck up for this very purpose, to test our hearts. Just a thought!

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, the one and only God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the eternal One, Yahweh, the great I AM, the Alpha and Omega, who is from everlasting to everlasting.

So, though I really like you Glenn, thanks for the invite, but I cannot join you.

Well the way I look at it, Christ’s offer is out there. If other’s don’t pick it up, that’s their problem. We don’t have any business forcing it on them. As long as they’re not in the business of forcing their religion on others (like Islam), or at war with Western Civilization (like Islam), I’ll take their help against real enemies of the Faith.

No Glenn said it was NOT a political rally...he led prayer and sang “Christian” songs that evangelicals joined in on . I have to assume either they do not understand that Glenn has a different God, or they do not know the gospel.

Go to Glenn's website. There is tab entitled "8/28 Rally" (a gathering of people for a common cause). Your thinking that people with differing views cannot come together for a common cause is childish, silly and shallow.

This frothing at the mouth bigotry in the evangelical community against the Mormons is sad.

Can I infer that you are not a CHRISTIAN?

"The Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the State if necessary for the public peace—their outrages are beyond all description."

I'm interested. Just what WERE the 'outrages'??

But we are still called to make the offer...

And defending the faith is our duty just as much defending as our nation. It takes a lot of work to be an American and a Christian, something we have sadly forgotten at great expense to our country.

In that concern the LDS are more a problem to the faith than even the Muslims since they use Christ name for all to see and pervert his nature and mission. The enemy who looks like you can do far more damage. You should see what they say about our Savior, it would shock any Christian.

Break in my house steal my possessions and lie about my family and you will have a thing or two to deal with. What the LDS has done is no different.

Even the Muslim don't do that, at worse they see Christ as just another Prophet.

Sadly there are also some good folk caught in the LDS trap, some good conservatives who I welcome to any earthly fight. Oddly I have been told how hateful I am towards them by some very good Christian folk who seem to genuinely care, but find it odd that they love them so much they won't fight for their soul out of fear of being "offensive". I am still seeking what is more hateful, being firm in my work in proving the LDS is a false and an evil path or blithely letting them just walk in the gates of hell without doing a thing. If I really hated someone I can think of nothing worse that doing just that. If that were my fate looking back I would wish someone had at least tried to offend me.

A multi front war is tough, but its what we got. I have an equal zeal about the Muslims and liberials on earth as I do about all false religions in the Spiritual world.

Here it is hard to tell since we seem to have no active Muslim Apologist to confront on FR.

Like I said in the earthly fight I will take all allies, but keep a wary eye on some of them when the subject changes.

I understand where you are coming from, I really do, but understand that there is much more going on here than simply us against Islam or us against the left. There is a reason that a seemingly endless array of troubles continue to confront us, it is not all just bad luck and happenstance.

We don't have any business forcing it on them.

Luke 14:16-23           The Parable of the Great Banquet

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

So religious songs, prayer, and sermons, pastors, black robes are not religious symbols..

It is denial to pretend that was not a religious revival given by a Mormon ...

People of differing views can come together for POLITICAL purposes..but Scripture warns us about spiritual fellowship with unbelievers..

Again I say only people that do not know the gospel or know scripture would be comfortable praying with polytheists and Imams ..we have different Gods and it is an affront to OUR GOD

Isa 42:8 I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Exd 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name [is] Jealous, [is] a jealous God:

Deu 4:24 For the LORD thy God [is] a consuming fire, [even] a jealous God.

Jos 23:7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear [by them], neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:

1Cr 10:22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

You didn’t ask for a FReeper, you asked “where anyone has ever said”. I answered. If you have a problem with the way it was answered that’s not my problem.

As far as FReepers go comments like that get removed post haste. I have seen them, but not near what I posted as a reply. Think the closest I have seen is one FReeper advocating rounding up ALL LDS and investigate ALL LDS for child abuse during the FLDS raids. Mormons have been called more dangerous than Islam to the freedom and security of this Nation...here, at FR.

Doesn’t matter though, the point is that anti-mormons in this thread have shown they a problem with a Mormon standing up and saying what was said on 8/28. If ANYONE else of an accepted Christian religion had said the same things you would not have a problem with it. So in order to stop the problems of a Mormon saying things like pray to YOUR God, tithe to YOUR Church, connect with YOUR family, the solution is to not allow Mormons to speak at public events. Then we wouldn’t have the problems of a Mormon professing God. We wouldn’t have to worry if the person next to us at a rally was a Mormon that we are “not to pray with...”.

Exactly..Glenn also preaches about morality and truth and yet hides the truth of his religion under a veneer of Christianity and puts Mormon doctrine subtly into his sermons

I just heard a few minutes of Beck on the radio while driving...he was talking about some "40 day challenge" and one of the steps was DON'T LIE. DON'T LIE ABOUT ANYTHING!

Lying by omission (milk before meat) is a standard in mormon proselytizing. But, it's ok if you do it for a "good cause"!!

Context is everything. The conversation had pertained to freepers.

Trying to change it all they way to the mid 1800s...

Evel Knievel in his prime would take a pass on that leap...

I do find it interesting that the only recent freeper based thing you could come up with is the FLDS fiasco.

As for the rest of you post, politically I fail to see any issues or disagreements with anyone about what Beck said, but given facts and history religious messages from a Mormon about Christianity and faith should be meet with healthy skepticism and wariness especially when a couple of Mormon ideas were passed under the general radar ("At the same time those things were happening on THIS side anyone?).

That self interest over any facts are a priority for the LDS organization is no secret, we saw it here on FR in 2008. That they would seek advantage in any given situation is fully a part of their history from day one.

I support anything Beck says politically as long as he stays on his current path, but any and everything spiritual will be met with a wary eye.
